Hello, THANKS for the video. I finally got around to replacing my 2013 Fusion camera after a few years of it sporadically working and not working. Always seemed to fail when I needed it the most. A coworker and I replaced it this morning in about an hour. Your video was great with the exception of a couple minor things. We had to figure out how to disconnect those small white connectors on the outside of the assembly. They were just simple pry offs. We also had a little difficulty removing the last part of the assembly due to the Ford emblem. This also caused an issue when replacing it. Removing the license plate and holder made this much easier. Anyway, thanks again for saving me about $500. Lets just hope this camera lasts till I'm done with the car. lol

My friend thank you! Just completed mine today and works perfect. Your walkthrough helped tremendously. I do recommend if any one reads this, to get the ratchet wrench for the two nuts underneath. I used needle nose on both. Was able to get about 1/8 turn at a time and it took forever, but still managed to get it done. Ratchet would had made that part quick.

Took a while for the camera to arrive from the eBay seller, but it only took me about an hour to replace the camera. Hardest part was getting the four nuts off the back plate, but some WD-40 helped a lot wit that. Thank you so much for the video!

Thank you dude. Hello fellow Madison County resident. I did some looking around and one of the big reasons for the failure is the moisture that gets into the connection. When you put things back together, clean up the connection if you see any crud in it. Also, they say to put some electrical grease into the connection to help prevent it from reoccurring. There may be a recall on this issue as the Explorers also have the same issues as had a recall issued. Good luck y'all and thank again for the video.

Thanks for the video. Its kind of tough to get the center panel back into place because of those two white circular tabs on either end. I had to sort of mangle one to get it back on, but with the four screws holding it, I'm not too worried about it. Also, there is a small cover over the screws for the pull-down handle. Not sure if your video mentioned it, but it pops off readily with a flat-head screwdriver. The entire job took me about 30 minutes. I'd rate it a 3 on a difficulty scale of 1 to 10. Finally, I tested the camera before putting everything back together and it didn't show the lines on the screen, but once I reinstalled everything correctly, the lines showed up. Not sure what happened there, but don't despair if the lines don't show on the first test of the camera.

Thank you for this great step by step video. I'm so happy to finally have my backup camera working again! I bought a used one on ebay for $69.00 and with the help of your detailed video I was able to replace it myself and it works great. I would advise anyone that buying a used camera on eBay is the way to go. Most of the used ones on eBay are from salvage yards where the car was probably totaled but the camera was fine and the salvage yards remove the parts that are still good and sell them on eBay, and most come with a return guarantee. Mine has a 30 day return guarantee.
The only thing I had trouble with was those last two white clips that you have to squeeze together and push out. They are hard to get to and you are going to need a very long pliers or needle nose pliers.
My camera came with the whole housing unit and harness wires. I was happy about that as I thought the problem could possibly be in the harness wiring, so I just replaced the whole housing unit and harness wiring.
Again, thanks for the video. Yours is the only video on TH-cam to show step by step how to replace the camera, so without this I don't think I could have done it myself.

Is there any chance that the root problem was poor contact from corrosion of the camera's terminals? I know the extra $80 for a new camera isn't a huge deal, but finding and ordering it will take a similar amount of time as the work itself. Hate to ask, but did you try cleaning the contacts and plugging the original camera back in to see if that solved the problem?

Did you open up the old camera and see if there was anything that could refurb it? Mine is doing the same thing. It just felt to me like a program fault. That so many cameras are failing with so low mileage, and thus such short usage durations is a quality and durability issue. Likely around maybe 30 seconds used in a day. If it was one minute a day. That's 6 hrs a year. This is a ridiculous fail rate. Planned obsolescence?

    • @ThezNutzGarage
      @ThezNutzGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Deborah Simpson I never opened it it see if there was any short circuits. Yep that seems like premature failure for how little they are used but cheap parts make the dealerships a ton of money.

@@ThezNutzGarage I agree with you. However, if you look on eBay for a Ford fusion camera 2015, you will see that the models available says that it fits a 2013 to a 2016 fusion. If you search for a 2016 camera, you will see that the description says that it fits a 2016-2019 fusion. So that's where I got confused since we can assume that the 2016 fusion is in between those models (2013-2016 camera) and (2016-2019 camera) so I assume that if a 2016 model is compatible for both years range, then it should probably work. I wasn't able to compare the parts number. However, what Ford told me was that there are not the same. Maybe you can do your search on eBay and see what I am looking. Thanks in advance!

Well I really don’t remember but call the parts department at your local dealership and see if they will look up the part number for you. I didn’t give a part number because I didn’t want someone to buy the wrong camera for their car basted off of what I said in the video. So many cars and model changes to know.

@@ThezNutzGarage ok thanks. I did get the oem number off the Ford parts website and then matched it up to Amazons inventory. That camera was 250 bucks at Ford. Same part at Amazon from the vendor who sends it to Ford was 69 bucks.

The cameras just do that. Maybe clean the connection where the harness plugs into the camera.

Its a Torx head screw. you'll probably need to buy a set if you don't have them already. I don't recall the size we used.

So 600 dollars just for the camera or for ford to replace it? If it is for them to to everything, i see where all the labor is. Thats quite the job. Why didn't ford just design it so you could reach the camera through the back trunk lid after you remove that huge carpet cover? I mean obviously an electronic like this is going to go bad eventually, why not give easy access to it? This is more work then I thought it was going to be. Thanks for posting the video... obviously pretty common issue with 30k views weew.

      $600 for the entire job.

My local Ford dealer just quoted me $1087. After the $135 diagnostic. They said about $450 for the part and the rest in labor. Ridiculous. This job does look like a lot of work for someone who doesn't work on cars. I'm going to take it to my mechanic.

    • @cranbers

@@drewgirton4264 I bought the replacement camera part for 135 dollars from amazon, some third party makes them. I swapped it out myself on a 2017 ford fusion energi platnium. It didn't help at all though so it wasn't the camera module. (second I turned on back camera after it was replaced still had the digital garbled signal, looked like a 1980's tv with a bad signal, no vertical hold bunch of weird noise. And of course now a few weeks later after all that camera is working fine consistently now with original. Figured it was wire touching ground where the wire pulls in through the metal in the trunk. 100k miles of rubbing against a semi sharp metal surface will do it.

Just watched this video. Looks fairly simple for the most part, but could you replace my camera on my 2016 Ford Fusion that just stopped working today and literally 2 days after I made my last car payment 🤨🤔 I feel like this is a setup and I’m not surprised tho, as I’m sure the company knows this and did it on purpose to make me have to spend my money to fix my vehicle!!!
