    Great work, Paul. A question for you....when Matt is using the shaper to cut the rebates on the seat for the rear legs to fit, is he using an angled cutter or a straight 90 degree cutter? I'm just trying to get my head around the rear seat angles before I attempt one of these chairs. Thanks from Australia.

    I'll be 60 this year. A woodworker since 1975. To watch you go about the process of making these Sam Maloof chairs impresses the heck out of me. I have watched your other video where you take a class of students through a similar process. I like many, appreciate you taking the time to share your love of the art and the passion you show for it!

    Is there an advantage of using the screws instead of dominos and glue on the headrest? Does that allow for wood movement?

    Great! Fun stuff. I got a ton of American Elm logs but most are shorter logs. Also Hackberry logs. Never worked with either. Would those be good for chairs? Figured the Hackberry is not good for much.

    • @CanadianWoodworks
      @CanadianWoodworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching, the Elm is great lumber, a little more work to work with because of the interlocking grain and Hackberry I don't really know. You'll have to let me know.

  • @terrycarabetta5984
    @terrycarabetta5984 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks for this as it augments the plans that I bought from you last year. One question: do you glue the headrest to the back legs or just have screws holding them? if you do at what point do you glue them in? before all the final shaping or ?

    • @CanadianWoodworks
      @CanadianWoodworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, yes the headrest is glued, and yes it is glued in before final shaping. I designed the back supports to be removable so they can go in after the chair is fully assembled and finished.
