- In this months video we're power Carving wood in Sam Maloof Guitar Stool. As far as I know Sam Maloof never actually carved a Guitar stool, but if he did, this would be pretty close, so this is in more of the Sam Maloof style.
You can purchase templates for this stool and build it for yourself from Canadian Woodworks.

Makes me want to touch it which is the ultimate complement. Rich materials + fine tools + courage = great result.
Thanks Randy that means a lot 🥲
This is my favorite stool besides the one the Michael Alm built with paracord. My Brother is an amazing guitarist and plays a lot for his church so this may become his Xmas present this year! Love the joinery btw
Thanks so much.
Finally got a chance to watch the entire video, more enjoyable then Sunday brunch!
Totally agree lol 😂

Finishing is always fun 😂. It’s actually my favorite part of any project. Looks amazing!! I see your shop has improved greatly from the past few years.
Hey buddy, thanks for the compliment, yeah, it’s in a perpetual state of change, trying to be more as efficient as possible, shop-time is always premium time. Question, what do you all do to maximize your time in your shop?
Just amazing finish and how it makes that grain stand out ! Just beautiful !
Congrats.
Followed your link from SMC. Beautiful wood, great craftsmanship. I think Sam would approve.
Thanks Jon, that means a lot 🥲
You do beautiful work.
From Missouri USA
Thanks
Great video, Great woodworking skills, definitely disserves may more likes than it currently has, I am sharing it.
Thanks so much I really appreciate that.
I have been very intimidated of chair building. Thank you for helping me face my fears.
You can do it!
@@GopherWoodshop I can’t. I don’t have any tools.
@@pr0meth1um Ahh I see your problem, use a sheet of sandpaper, it might take you a little longer, but hay it's the joy of building something with your hands.
Now that is nice work.
Simply beautiful.
Thanks 😊
Great job! Your workmanship is top-notch, and the stool turned out beautiful!
Thanks for watching, we love it.
That quantity of walnut in my country would bankrupt me!
Beautiful beautiful piece.
Thank you so much, it was a real learning experience, and I was very happy the way it turned out, you take care and thanks for watching.

Thank you, I’m heading to Korea this month.
Fantastic work, and great edit on the video!
Dude! that means a lot coming from you. Thanks 🙏
That is beautiful wood. I need to start on my Maloof style guitar stool. But first a bed for the new grandson.
Thank you Joe, good luck with your projects.
That looks awesome! Definitely want to have a go at power carving one day soon 👍
Thanks Man, can’t wait to see your results?
Amazing!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent work Mike! Really enjoyed watching your process on this!
Thank you so much, you’ve made my day.☺️
Thanks, it was a fun project, and my first time turning epoxy, I think I’m hooked😀
HELLO FRED THE CAT!
Smooth!
Thanks Stacey
Beautiful build! And an excuse to do some power carving!
Lol thank you sir
Nice job Michael. Makes me want to get a Sawstop. Enjoyed flying with you yesterday.
Thanks. you too buddy
great vid. I thought it might be one of Scott Morrison's Maloof inspired tea chairs - it is very similar. I found it interesting that you thought the festool 150 would be a better sander for this project. I am building a chair like this now, and was considering the 90 like you have instead of the 150 already in my shop!
Interesting!
Belo trabalho. Parabéns.
muito obrigado
Just found your channel hope to see more content soon ? Amazing talent mate 🙏
Cheers👍
ITS SOOO AMSING!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Emily, your AMSING to notice it.😂
That’s an amazing stool. Also, you’re shop is complete! For the tight angles I would think the ROtex90 would be perfect. For the larger surfaces, I see how you would want the 150.
Thank you, I do love my shop but I enjoy making it better, lol
Beautiful build and video.... Now when the wife says she really needs a dozen chairs for large gatherings....
Lol, Thanks Tom,
Awesome WoodWork !!! Your channel is very good and I met you through Instagram !!! Thank’s for sharing !!!
The
Thanks, sorry for the late reply, just saw your comment.
Pretty fantastic work, man... It turned out amazing! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! Cats included! 🖖😊
(BTW, I have 3 cats here. 😬)
Thank you, never had a cat before, but Fred's a good one.
@@GopherWoodshop Well, after more than a decade that I have cats all I can tell you is that there aren't 2 cats with identical personalities. Each and every one of them is unique. And once they like anyone they're always going to be around. 😊
One of my cats behaves like a dog with my mother! 😂

I thoroughly enjoyed this video! Where did you find the plans for the stool?
Hey Mike, I listed them in the description. They are from Canadian Woodworks’s. You can look them up on the Internet. Best of luck with your new project.
Really nice work! You had my cringing when I saw all that excess glue. 😅😅😅😅
Lol, yup I went a little overboard on the glue for sure.
@@GopherWoodshop Hey it turned out awesome!
@@webcrawler3332 Thank you 😊
Great video and nice work on your stool! After watching this, I ordered a set of plans to try my own. How thick was the material that you used for the seat? 8/4?
Thanks Man. Yes 2” thick walnut, it’s still looking great an I love the Rubio finish, good luck, hit me up on IG if you need any help.
Hi 👋, great job, did you ever make the chairs, Phil from the moulin France.
Hi Phil from France. Not yet! But I’m about Halfway finished on the prototype, unfortunately my day job gets in the way of my woodworking, lol I hope to have a build video out before the end of the year, but then I’ve said that before and been wrong.
Hi, Beautiful work, could you please tell me the name of this Joint?
Hi Jon,
I just know it as the Sam Maloof joint, but its basically a rabbit cut into the leg and a tongue of the exact same size cut into the chair seat, it's incredibly strong which is what makes it perfect for a chair, then you carve the excess material and smooth it out. 👍
Can you please, write exactly the names of the three tools electric machines u used please? thank you
Sure, i'd be happy to. Are you referring to the carving and sanding tools or the bigger machinery?
Ive watch a couple vids and wonder why the 3/4” round over was done after the leg dados?
Hey Edad, great question, I did it that way because I needed a square reference surface to cut the dados first.
Daughters cat? 🤨
You said it Bro
Way too much glue.
That’s interesting as one woodworkers too much glue is another’s too little glue perhaps you’d like to define what you would consider to be the perfect Goldie Locks quantity for your liking and I’ll be sure to meter just the right amount in my next video for your glue viewing pleasure.
Stupid camera wobble spoils a good video
Not sure which part of the video your referring to? But thanks for your comment anyway.
