CDs and DVDs just disappeared without a trace. I remember I used to keep the CDs and DVDs so safe that they won't get lines on them so I can watch the movies or listen to songs later. I am a 90s kid and damn i feel so much has changed from my teenage years and now.
Having been born in the 70's, I can appreciate the pro's and cons of now vs. then. I think we over consume everything today, and are so off balanced. More choices are great, but choose carefully... and don't fall in the trap that you must have what everyone has. I miss the days of gatherings without so much distractions from technology. I grew up in NYC, and yes everyone lived outside much more. When home computers/ internet became more accessible, there was a huge difference in the amount of people staying outdoors. I am glad I can compare life in the 80's to now...the good and the bad. Nice video.
I remember only having 3 tv stations and getting a 4th was fabulous. So much more to choose from - lol. The 80s were good and bad, yes we got bored, you had to have phone conversations tethered to one spot, but it was also harder to find your "people" those people that understood you, and if you grew up somewhere remote - it could be really hard.
I quit facebook (my only social media) 3 years ago but still have messenger, because I hate the idea of people/friends always shoving you what they do because there's nothing left to talk about when you meet them in person, no surprise or excitement to meet them at all. I love and miss that era, 90's and earlier especially...
Our modern new lifestyle is also the indirect cause of the ridiculously high depression & anxiety cases we see today. We used to thrive within small communities, now we're almost all divided and kids are being spoon fed tablet time 3+hrs a day from a young age instead of building vital life skills.
I was a kid in the '80s and I can definitely confirm that that decade is the best one ever. Since the mid '90s things (especially music!!) have gone from bad to worse and I feel sorry for younger generations who will never experience what I've experienced back then. Everything was much easier and relations were more genuine, there was less envy and individualism.
Great video, thank you! I was born in the beginning of 80’s and I remember so bad waiting the whole WEEK to see 2 Disney cartoons on Sunday evening, all together 45 minutes. I don’t remember being bored at all in fact. We had so few stuff that we had to constantly use our imagination and just think of how to create something. I agree that nowadays there are so many really good opportunities but one has to be much more aware and concentrated to not to fall into a trap of all these choices. 😊
This was great Seve. No social media so a lot less comparing your life to someone else’s. Also because of that most of the people you knew were people who you met in person, which as you said meant more face to face human interactions. Means way more then just through typing. I really think we need to go back to a lot of these. I agree there is way too much choice these days, literally in everything.
I was born a LONG time ago and the past had great benefits. I believe mental health was better before social media for numerous reason. People got more exercise. People had real conversations in real time. I know younger people who would rather text than have a conversation because they feel uncomfortable having a conversation in real time. That is just sad.
Great video. I do not get the internet on my cell phone. When I go anywhere I am in that moment, experiencing what is going on around me. I wonder how many people these days have no idea what that feels like. A loss for them for sure.
Seve, you nailed it t my friend !! I agree with everything you said ,I don't feel angry when I see youngsters glued to their phones as they walk down a path locally ,I feel sorry for them .Yes they have interaction but little is real ,then they come home and plug themselves into a PS or Xbox and actually believe their living ? But I'm 63:old n grumpy lol
I GREW UP IN THE SEVENTIES AND WAS A TEENAGER IN THE 80'S, I MUST SAY IT WAS MUCH BETTER. WE WERE OUTDOORS MOST OF THE TIME WITH NO MOBILES, NO INTERNET AND NOT TOO MUCH INFORMATION AND VARIETY OF INDOORS ENTERTAINMENT. THOSE WERE MAGICAL TIMES..
Its easy. Social media makes us anti social. I was born in 1983. Me and my sister had a pretty nice childhood. We had friends we actually met, played basketball or just rode our bikes, skates or skate boards. My father limited my PC usage when we had one. I could only play on weekends, no more than 30 mins each day. Thats 1 hr/week. And I was happy with that because I had toys such as Hot Wheels, GI. JOE, Transformers and LEGO. Sometimes we went to visit different places such mountain or the beach. Nowadays, kids stuck to their smartphones, tablets, etc.. That is bad and we can see the long term effects. Kids dont know how to interact with others as everybody lives in bubbles.
Definitely, did not live in the 80's. The VHS experience was about driving to the rental store, chose a movie, get the pop corn and see who is there. After that, going to a friend's house to watch it or watch it at home.
In the 80's had landline ( really long cord)with call waiting and answering machine, clothesline, had woodburning stove to supplement heat, car was base model by choice. Now have 7 yo cell phone, no streaming service as can check out nearly infinite videos from library for free, use clothesline, car is still base model and old but functional , neighbor shares internet. Still save half of income just as did then. Lots of dissatisfaction is because of perceived poverty compared to others instead of Maslow's hierarchy of needs .Big difference is more global awareness, now can see what is happening anywhere thanks to TH-cam, increases frustration that I can't do more but also clarifies why certain things are happening locally before it appears on the news.
Gen-X 80's kid here. The 'friends' we grew up with were those kids local to us. Like kids in school. Technology today allows us to remove the tyranny of distance & hone in on really like-minded individuals. Find a tribe, REAL lifelong friends.
When was the last time you used a VHS? 😄
2007 when last vcr died and couldn't find replacement cheaply
@@cherylcarlson3315 bought VHS second hand 2010 $20 just died last year with Errol Flynn "Robinhood" stuck in it Taped it back in late 80's from tv😁

Yeah it's all about how you use all the convenient things we have today. Balance is so important 👍🏼
I totally agree with overconsumption nowadays:(
Agreed! And wish I had been born in the 70s. Would loved to have gone through the entire 80s

Yeah that's for sure true! Nowadays you can find your own tribe easily via different groups on the internet and social media, great point 🙌

Great video! I was the 80s kid/teen. Socializing was going to the mall on Friday night for us. Much simpler times
Thank YOU for sharing your experience with us

Renting a movie from the blockbuster store was my favorite thing to look forward back then.
Good video! Totally agree with the Design Your Own Life part. 🔥
Thank you! 😎

Very good video. Thank you for it. I love watching valuable content ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
I spent lots of time outside when I was a kid. (and Friday nights at the Mall 😉)

I love your content so much nowaday people need this.
Thank you! 🤩🤩
I work as a software engineer and after two years of WFH my mental health has tanked. I gotta get out of the house more often.

I resonate with your ideas so much fr!
🙌 Thanks!
Old times are not better or worst they are just different :)
Cool videos btw !!
True! Thanks Matheus 😊

Yes looking forward to your next video cause thinking of quitting instagram or atleast limiting the usage of instagram.
Yeah I don't even use it anymore. It was just stealing all my energy and attention. Highly suggest deleting it even for a month 🙌
Let's go 80s! 🕺
The famous nostalgia from time that we weren't even alive in 😄

Yeah I think the awareness about bigger especially global topics is much higher these days because of the social media 👍 Thanks for the comment!

2:35 - The Karate Kid...
Did you find the HD Button?????????????????????????????????????
It doesn't exist I googled 😪
I saw a lady walking in the pool holding her phone out in front of her. Nearly made me sad.
Oh no 😂🙈
A simpler life back then is healthy, sure, but I'll take the current progress that we have made in science and technology any day.
We are more bored now since due to cognitive dissonance making more addictions to mobile
Probably true 😄
The 80’s were great…..except for the cocaine
