As a man in his 50s having worked since 18 having a wife & kid. Time is your most precious asset. You can get another car another house another TV. You can't get back time you wasted or missed.
Issue with older generations not understanding. I'm in my 70's and it took me too damn long to get off the "train" of wanting more stuff, keeping up with the Jones's. You're young and lucky you figured it out. The last 20 years have been the happiest, realizing I don't need anymore stuff!
We made a choice when raising our two daughters to stick with entertainment that didn’t involve television babysitting, among many other lifestyle choices. They learned to be creative, use their imagination and not need constant external stimulus like so many of their friends. Fast forward 29 years and our eldest is living in Costa Rica with her husband a very minimalist lifestyle as they can travel out of a few backpacks. Our youngest is, essentially, back country living and building a 25’ x 25’ geodesic dome to live in, wood heating and also very minimalistic. On the flip side we recently sold everything that wouldn’t fit in four large suitcases and moved to Mexico. That was 32 years of accumulation and home, cars etc. We have embraced this living style and new country but we have a long way to go beyond the physicality of the changes. Our eldest, just today, thanked us for raising them the way we did as it opened up so many possibilities beyond the social expectations of friends and family as her and her sister are able to employ critical thinking skills without the trappings of those expectations that are the result of various external pressures. Basically, we are the black sheep and we love our life with less, living slower and appreciating what we need vs what we want as we realize the want is often a result of being marketed to and bowing to those social pressures of accumulating stuff.
Excellent video. I am 52 and found simple living in my 20’s. I am so grateful to have lived life with these principles. It has helped me in more ways than I can begin to express. Thank you for sharing your message with others.

Only just discovered your channel and really enjoying your videos. I can relate to them more than the ones living in a cottage or wooden hut in the middle of nowhere. It's a more realistic existence. Even if we live in an urban area, it can still be slow, peaceful, simple living. It's what we make of it that matters. We can always escape to the countryside to enjoy all it has to offer. I think you have a very balanced view of slow living. I'm 63 and have always lived a slow life. It was more hectic when the kids were home, but the last 20 years or so have been so peaceful. I just enjoy living in the moment, taking joy from the simple things in life, and doing as I please... and not what others think I should be doing.
I really resonate with a lot of what you are saying and live a simple life myself. I have noticed that I have a slightly different take on the "quality vs quantity" aspect of friendships. I have worked in service and bars for many years and I have really learned to love a casual friendship. I am a bartender twice a week (currently my only gig - thank god for low rent) and love seeing all the local regulars. I do not really hangout with these people when not at work but I love getting to see everybody and chat for a little while here and there and running into them in the streets. I do have a few close friends, but also really appreciate having so many "more subtle" connections with people. The more love you give, the more love you get, the more love you give. Great content my man. subscribed

I realized that being time rich is much better than having more money when i was 23-24 years old.. time is really the most important thing we have, dont waste it for a piece of paper.
Fantastic and right on the money. My experience exactly when I woke up at 38 after living the hustle culture successfully for 15 years. (successfully in their terms not mine) 👍
It resonates so much with me because I realized I was asked so often what I want (including me asking myself) that I came to the conclusion that I don't want anything right now. I am happy where I am and not striving the ideal life is ok and totally fine!
You are such an amazing person, I am so glad that TH-cam recommended me one of your videos yesterday, and between yesterday and today I have now watched quite a few many more videos of yours, and it gave me a lot of reassurance that I was not a weirdo by having the same kind of mindset. I too have a minimalist mindset, I believe simple things in life are the most beautiful ones, and I have never fitted into this world, and it's worldly ways. Can't appreciate you enough!
The phone sound is really good. 😀 I am in no way a minimalist, but I buy very few new things these days, especially technology wise, because I think a lot of things don't evolve anymore, it's just the producers making new models out of greed, not because they've come up with something new. And in a way it makes me sad that I've already experienced peak mobile phone, peak car, peak houses and it just seems to be going ever increasingly fast downhill.
Hi, perhaps the peak item is not a peak and simply a plateau with all the other items that suffice? What is the point of a peak item if one does not use or need all of its capabilities? Have a happy, simple day!
I've done a similar thing with Christmas approaching. There's really any "thing" within reason I want. It's more about experiences and things I want to do, things that can't literally be bought. Aside from a cabin on some land, but I don't think Santa can fit that in his sleigh. It'll come with time.
Couldn't agree more. One has to define his/her own way of minimalist life. Couple of years ago I started creating a list of material things I need (except for obvious items like spoon/fork or bed). Today this list contains 3 items which is bike, ebook reader and fishing rod and I feel like I realy do not need anything more. Crucial thing was to realize the difference between my true needs and desires. Not all what I desire is what I truly need. Some of my desires can make me even unhappy as I realized I was overwhelmed by possessions. In fact I didn't possess those things, they just possessed me as I had to take care of them, clean them, maintain them... As burned out workaholic I am still working on simplifying my life, but never been so hopeful before...
I love everything you say! I don‘t know anyone who is feeling similar to the way how I feel. I‘ve got the feeling of beeing understood listening to you! ❤
Yellow is my favorite color! Over in my part of the world (Michigan, USA) the reds are *outstanding* this year! This is one of our more glorious autumns on record!
A time you enjoyed wasting is not actually wasted time. Love your videos. I’m slowly doing minimalism. I don’t want to rush things because I’m afraid I won’t enjoy the journey if I rush to be minimalist.
Several years ago, I have discovered for myself something that I call "wasting time productively". When I would find myself unable to address what I considered priorities, I would procrastinate on them by doing what is important to me, but is not a priority. In that way, I understood that I am still procrastinating, but there is some good coming from it. Hence, your speech around 5:40--5:45 resonated with me .
Seve, this the third of your videos to which I am responded. Every time a certain acquaintance sees me, he always asks, Bob why are you still wasting your money on rent? You should be buying a house. You're just letting your money go down the drain. My answer is always the same. It's just money and I don't care. I have always been satisfied being a renter. And that's all that matters! If you are feeling happy you're on the right track!
I've watched (binged) a lot of videos with similar topic as this one. I've felt like most of those have been repetitive and I did not get much value. Just few minutes in your video and I've brought out my all-around notebook and wrote down how I want my life to be 10-12 years from now. Your decision to work 6 hrs, choosing time over potential earnings, reinforces my desire to work less hours and have more time living my life and spending it how I want. I'm not there yet. I have a lot of work to do to have that option but this gave me a lot of inspiration and drive. Thank you! This is my first video from your channel and will definitely check out your other videos. New subscriber here!
So happy you found my video valuable! 😇 We are all in different paths and phases in our lives. Hope you'll be able to create the life that fits your health and spirit the best 😊
Wise words from a young man, I'm probably twice your age and have only learned the same over recent years. There is nothing more important than your health for a start so no experimental jabs for me, secondly without love, is life worth living? We are all stuck in this monetary system to some degree but don't buy into having the most expensive item of anything, it will soon become old/obsolete anyhow.
Great points Steve! Recently I started getting rid of a lot of things and selling some of them online and it feels so good to do that. Having only the things I need! I have to say though, that if I have only few things that I really need, I would like them to be high quality, because if there’s something I use on a daily basis and it brings me value I want it to be high quality and pleasant to use, so for example, I would prefer using a high quality phone instead of a cheap one, again, just because it is one of my few things I own and use everyday frequently :)
Wow marvelous video,no words to say.everyone should lead life like u as it is perfect and liked by God,not destroying nature, helping others, spending more life understanding ourself, doing meditation,be calm.these are features to lead happy healthy life for 100 yrs
Without even a call to action you understood the assignment 😂 Yeah this time of the year the cozy chill vibe is everywhere here, we call this period "ruska" 🍁🍂
@@TheTRELOS7 George, the Finnish word ruska has nothing to do with Russia 😄 It means the phenomenon when leaves change colours from green to yellow and then red. So no worries, my content has nothing to do with Russia and politics. I've been keeping myself updated and aware of the horrors there almost daily too. Very difficult times for people there, I have a friend that lives in Kyiv 😢 You can google "Ruska Finland" to learn more and see some nice nature pics if you want to

Yes on everything you said! I've been through a similar journey, and created a simple life that works for me/feels good! Love the expanding spirituality/gratitude/joy that comes from slowing down! Wonderful video, thank you so much for sharing!!
Seve, thank you for this great video. I just found your channel today and am happily beginning to go through all of your vlogs. I feel an affinity for all you are syaing and appreciate your way of presenting things. I can always learn more about how to live a good life in this world.
Thank you, Seve! And again everything you say resonates with me so much. It's so great to hear someone sharing thoughts of not receiving any gifts. It's exactly how I feel myself. And so few people around me can in fact understand that. Also regarding mental clutter - it may be even a heavier load we carry compared to the physical stuff we have. Your question about the colour of life made me think a lot. I can't think of any colour. Seems that my life is transparent. I'm glad I found your channel!
Transparent, that's interesting! Made me immediately think of letting life flow naturally and not getting stuck in one phase or narrative of your life 🌱
Maybe rethink the gift giving/receiving thing? Giving a gift gives pleasure to the giver, it allows them to feel generous and loving. I understand that you are talking about unnecessary flash/dazzle/expense. But taking someone out for coffee, drawing a small picture, writing a letter of appreciation can give both giver and receiver a little glow!
Moving far from a 250k city to a 1k village is, 3 years in, an interesting experience. Gone are trophy hierarchies. The solitude forces, and helps, you to enjoy time alone. Nature is always here to cheer you up or vice versa. I felt it was harder to be alone in the city. You felt extra isolated seing all people, you had no relation to, all the time. It has a bunch of downsides but mostly practical ones. A bit surprisingly good sides dominates this far.
I am from the tropical, it's green. For life's colour I feel like it is changing from time to time... just discovered your channel and leave a comment for the first time, because I like this question that you asked, thank you!
Hi Seve, thanks for your videos. I recently discovered your channel. It makes me think a lot. Looking forward to see more videos 👌🏼Greetings from Spain 😊
7:30 _"You can be a minimalist and still be an a$$hole."_ This is true. In fact, we could replace "minimalist" with probably any other group or process identifier -- rich person, poor person, spiritual person, materialist person, etc. -- and it would still be a true statement. Our practices are *how* we choose to live, but our *selves* are who -- *who* -- we are _regardless the group or process that we identify as/with._
Your voice and accent are absoutely beautiful! I am only one minute into the video but will check out your whole channel because it is so wonderful to listen to you speaking. Sorry, this is kinda random but I had to say it. Back to watching the video :D
Simplifying life is not an overnight thing. For me personally I have been very considered about what I do and don’t need anymore. But I don’t stress about it because I know I’m making progress towards my goal. P.S cool bike you have there, one thing I won’t give up is my bikes😂
I'm going to point out something to you, Seve. First, you are insiteful for a man of your age and that will serve you well. Second, consider sailing. I would say that to anyone wanting to live simply as it forces you to reduce and, for what it's worth, makes for an interesting life. And third, thanks for your message. Ciao
The stoic philosophers wrote some good stuff about possessions. ""Don’t imagine having things that you don’t have. Rather, pick the best of the things that you do have and think of how much you would want them if you didn’t have them" - Marcus Aurelius “Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.” - Epicurus "We should sometimes try to look upon our possessions in the light in which they would appear if we had lost them" - Schopenhauer
Great video! I find that after spending so much of my time earning more and more money and gaining more and more things, that it was not spent well with these goals. Once I had what I really just needed, then more meant very little. I would buy new toys and technological gadgets, and found I did not use them. I did not take the time to learn how to use them. They added nothing to my life but more mental clutter that I just couldn't keep up with. Getting rid of most of these things was very liberating for my mind and my time. In the west we are trained to be consumers. Indeed the economy and it's future drive consumerism. It is an ever increasing pyramid scheme of an economy. And it seems to be destroying the quality of our lives, and doing harm to our world. Our food supply system is a good example. Industrial farming has taken over the role of raising our food. In my grandparents generation they almost all had gardens. Not hobby gardens, but real food producing gardens that they relied on. These produced good foods with a denser nutrition value than the industrially farmed food products we see in the grocery stores. This is why home grown foods taste so much better and have a far more robust nutrition content. Growing locally either for yourselves or from small farms that practice organic methods is so much better for us and for the world. It is good to see the younger generations questioning this consumer driven lifestyle. I think minimalism as an adopted religion could be a problem. But just using less and less in our lives is finding the balance as you seem to indicate in your video. Good stuff. Thanks for taking the time to post it.

Yellow is my favorite color! Over in my part of the world (Michigan, USA) the reds are *outstanding* this year! This is one of our more glorious autumns on record!
That's so cool! 😍😍
You are preaching my life and other souls who chose a minimalist life. Thank you.
A time you enjoyed wasting is not actually wasted time. Love your videos. I’m slowly doing minimalism. I don’t want to rush things because I’m afraid I won’t enjoy the journey if I rush to be minimalist.
Love that! I highly believe in slow but steady progress 😏 It's way more sustainable most of the times
You are clearly wise and observant. It is refreshing to see a young person say and do these things.
This resonates with me. This is the way we should all strive to live.
Good video, Thanks for sharing
Thank you Joseph! 😊
52 and would do it so different now.
Wisdom is Power to be happy free unchained.
What a wonderful comment Steve ❤
Great points Steve!
Recently I started getting rid of a lot of things and selling some of them online and it feels so good to do that. Having only the things I need!
I have to say though, that if I have only few things that I really need, I would like them to be high quality, because if there’s something I use on a daily basis and it brings me value I want it to be high quality and pleasant to use, so for example, I would prefer using a high quality phone instead of a cheap one, again, just because it is one of my few things I own and use everyday frequently :)
Wow marvelous video,no words to say.everyone should lead life like u as it is perfect and liked by God,not destroying nature, helping others, spending more life understanding ourself, doing meditation,be calm.these are features to lead happy healthy life for 100 yrs
ok, ok, ok, you won. My goal for this week is to declutter a bit.
Absolutely love the vibe of these places, I have to visit Finland ASAP.
Without even a call to action you understood the assignment 😂 Yeah this time of the year the cozy chill vibe is everywhere here, we call this period "ruska" 🍁🍂
@@SunnyKindJourney Ruska, turned my sanity upside down, I never expected something like an inhumane and barbaric act from Russia.
Very difficult times for people there, I have a friend that lives in Kyiv 😢 You can google "Ruska Finland" to learn more and see some nice nature pics if you want to
@@SunnyKindJourney Ha ha ha, I think you guys are more complicated than the Greeks, ruska for photosynthesis give me a break, I still love you man he he.
@@TheTRELOS7 Yeah Finnish language is so strange at times 😄 But the pronouciation is somewhat similar to yours so I could pick up Greek pretty fast when I was studying it. No I have already forgotten most of it though
It feels like you are my twin brother as I live very similar life to you just working part time and enjoying me time and freedom more than things... Such a well balanced life and inner peace is priceless....
It truly is, we seem to have a lot of similarities! 😍
Loving the video format, so easy to watch and also incredible informative. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Yes on everything you said! I've been through a similar journey, and created a simple life that works for me/feels good! Love the expanding spirituality/gratitude/joy that comes from slowing down! Wonderful video, thank you so much for sharing!!
Beautiful the way you word your wisdom.
What a wonderfully thoughtful and introspective person you are. 😊
😊 thank you
A very interesting and intelligent description. Perfect English. Kiitos !
Bring your spiritually into your material life and embrace both.
Seve, thank you for this great video. I just found your channel today and am happily beginning to go through all of your vlogs. I feel an affinity for all you are syaing and appreciate your way of presenting things. I can always learn more about how to live a good life in this world.
Glad you like them! 😊 And I'm joining you in that, there's so much to learn about ourselves and this world still. Thank you for the comment 😍
You are doing the best job!
I thru hiked the AT last year you only take what you can carry.
Great insights, thanks Seve. Succint and leaves out the BS, which ironically other 'minimalist' channels don't achieve! All the best.
Thank you Sarah 😇
Thank you so much 💓 great insights!! Best of luck on your journey, love and light ✨ 🙏💫💗
Seve you are the true example of simple living❤
Thank you! I'm still very early on in my journey but this inspires me 😊😊
The gift thing is so hard. They just dont understand and almost seem concerned for us for not wanting more possessions
Thank you Steve, that was very honest and enlightening.
....perfect. Thank you. ( nice bike🤗)
Thanks! :)
Thank you for sharing... ' ' ' Less is more ' :)
Absolutely! 🥰
Awesome! Thank you! 💚
Perfect audio and excellent content.
Glad you think so! 😊
Blue and Yellow ☀️ 🏝️
Hi Seve, thanks for your videos. I recently discovered your channel. It makes me think a lot. Looking forward to see more videos 👌🏼Greetings from Spain 😊
Awesome, thanks! 🥰
Thank you. I do understand the struggles right before the realization of just living your life like how you consume stuff within your means.
i love the way you see things in life! that's gonna be my new year's resolution!
Fantastic work bro 🐼🙏. Happy holidays back there ❤🍿🎂🍩🍩❤🍨🍫🎆🍿🍩❤. Stay blessed🙌
This video is nice & clear
Thank you Angela!
A well-planned life talk about how a person live by filled with peace, happiness and everlasting love. Cheers!
Great!
You are enlightened
Well I don't know about that but at least I feel more fulfilled than a few years ago 😉
7:30 _"You can be a minimalist and still be an a$$hole."_
This is true.
Love the video... Perhaps midnight blue. Cheers
Awesome, thank you 😊
Your voice and accent are absoutely beautiful! I am only one minute into the video but will check out your whole channel because it is so wonderful to listen to you speaking.
Sorry, this is kinda random but I had to say it. Back to watching the video :D
Haha thank you! 🤗 Sending you peace 😇
Great information, great video! I basically follow the same methods you do.
Thank you, Neil! 🙌🏼
Simplifying life is not an overnight thing. For me personally I have been very considered about what I do and don’t need anymore. But I don’t stress about it because I know I’m making progress towards my goal. P.S cool bike you have there, one thing I won’t give up is my bikes😂
Yeah for me it has taken years too - it's a constant work in progress ✌️ And thanks, I love my vehicle 😉
Great video and the audio quality is fine using your phone. Super idea!
Thank you very much! 😊
I'm going to point out something to you, Seve. First, you are insiteful for a man of your age and that will serve you well. Second, consider sailing. I would say that to anyone wanting to live simply as it forces you to reduce and, for what it's worth, makes for an interesting life.
And third, thanks for your message.
Ciao
Sailing, wow that sounds interesting to try 😉 Thanks for the comment!
Great video thank you
Thank you for watching! 😊
Are you in canada ? Lovely background 🎉🎉🎉 nice content! Got a new subscriber 😊
In Finland! Obrigado 🤗
Great video,
Thanks! 😊
You have the perfect microphone (though it's a phone), but eseciall the setting. Great channel, just subscribed!
Thank you, Greg! 🙌
The stoic philosophers wrote some good stuff about possessions.
""Don’t imagine having things that you don’t have. Rather, pick the best of the things that you do have and think of how much you would want them if you didn’t have them" - Marcus Aurelius
“Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.” - Epicurus
"We should sometimes try to look upon our possessions in the light in which they would appear if we had lost them" - Schopenhauer
I love this video SO MUCH!
