    What's your beam dimension and the value of concrete cover that you use?

    Can you share the specifications of the beam? ie. l. w. h. number, placement and diameter of reinforcing steel. composition of concrete ie. slump. Thank you .

    Here in chile we develop our beam to fail by flexure. Because the shear failure its not ductile.

      Thanks Hector. That is true, the beams are designed to fail in flexure as shear failure is brittle. It is very important especially for seismic design for earthquake prone areas like in Chile. This video is from class demonstration for concrete engineering to demonstrate catastrophic nature of shear failure.

    why is the crack diagonal?

    • @AA-ll6wd
      @AA-ll6wd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because cracks caused by shear stress are usually at 45 degrees. Consult Mohr's circle.

      Yiping Qiao There are many scenarios here so I will just ask a few questions first. Are you sure it’s a crack and not just some surface wear from weather conditions? Sometimes if beams are not covered by slabs or protection they may crack or even spall. Second, is it a beam or a column? And is their reinforcing steel in it? If there is, what is the direction of the bars? Also, in the case of a beam is it at the bottom?

      Yiping Qiao the previous also assumes correct curing and drying has taken place. If the cracks are perpendicular on the beam it is due to retraction of the concrete. It means the contractor did not cure it correctly.

      @Yiping Qiao probably curing was not correct.
