As a male, who has a wife and 2 daughters. You have brought quite a few things to my realization that I have often over looked. Actually have been frustrated with my girls about things they do while traveling. I want to make a better effort to help them make safer choices while being out and about especially while traveling. Thank you for opening my eyes to some of those things. You are a smart and courageous woman. Props to you for doing the things you do.
Great choice on cars too! I've never owned a Subaru but it's a car I'm considering as my next vehicle.
Be safe and thanks for sharing your travels with us.
    Charles ✌️

I am so glad to read your comment - I was hoping my video will also reach men, because I really think that it's important for men to know what we - women experience and how certain behaviors make us feel. Women in your life are lucky to have you - a person who cares about them so deeply. Have a wonderful weekend Charles.

Great advice. As a husband, dad of daughters and grandfather of granddaughter i will pass this along. Good information for everyone. especially regarding trusting our gut. Great suggestion about keys and glasses…We got into a tense/uncomfortable situation and found myself fumbling around for them and it really created unnecessary confusion. We have advised our daughters to not allow commercial or state campgrounds to put the “ number of guests” on the ticket they want hanging on your mirror as #1. There is no need to advertise that. Put 2 or 5! Who cares!

These tips are all great habits for anyone to adopt. Paranoia can be distracting or even destructive to one's peace of mind, but making reasonable safety precautions a habit means you worry less about ending up in bad situations, and actually will allow you to enjoy the world more. Regarding trusting your gut instinct: if you haven't already, read "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin De Becker. It does a good job of explaining how our "gut instinct" is almost always our subconscious mind making a very rational analysis of what is happening based on personal experience or knowledge. The subconscious mind tends to work much faster than the conscious mind, so even though you cannot figure out why you feel on edge at the moment (usually because your conscious mind is busy dealing with the here and now), your subconscious mind is recognizing known patterns and behaviors that indicate a possible threat. Always trust your instincts - they are not unreasonable fears to be ignored. Btw, great interview on the Subie & You! podcast this week!

Good job explaining safety on the road as a woman. It’s always a good idea to stay adventurous, but go for it with awareness.

Asha, I'm 191cm and 158 kilos. While these are good tips for normal people, many times few would apply to me. I'm usually the person people like you steer away from, even though my wife says I'm a big teddy bear. That being said, you raise good points. I feel, whether legal or not, having and carrying pepper spray is something most people should do. Then if you have an issue with a person or animal, the pepper spray will not permanently injure the creature, but will definitely deter from further encounters with you. I agree, there's nothing wrong with lying to other travelers. You never know what that person will do. Remember Ted Bundy was a really handsome man, yet he was a serial killer. Enjoy your travels and stay safe!

Asha, once again a very good video. I love the fact that you genuinely care about people and give advice based on real life experiences. Keep making these please and if you ever come back through Louisiana and Texas give me a shout. By the way where’s the Subie? If I could send a pic of mine I’d show you all the work I’ve done to it in hopes of traveling in it one day.
