- Dan and Whit's general store had been a fixture in Norwich, Vermont for over a century. But a lack of employees threatened the store's future. So, owner Dan Fraser posted a desperate Help Wanted sign - and the response from the community has kept him in business. Steve Hartman reports.

We need more Steve Hartmans in the world to share the stories positivity and hope through the so called media landscape. There is as much good as there is bad in today's world however our current media does not want to share this with us the viewers but at least there is a ray of hope that broadcasts 2 minutes every week...and where there is hope....
Thanks for highlighting our innate desires to be helpful and our need for community. Every human needs to find a way to do this, to help someone for the betterment of their community. It doesn't take much but it's important. If you do it, you'll feel the importance of what you've done. Being helpful is how we build humility and empathy toward others. I suspect that this town may have too few young people to take these kind of jobs. I have heard similar stories from China where people in their 60s were taking care of people in their 80s in rural communities because younger people had migrated to the cities for employment prospects. There are also similar towns in rural Italy where the towns are paying people to move there because the young people had moved away.

Hate to be the Debbie Downer here but this may be a result of someone who has few customers (Because of stores like Wal-mart) and cant afford to pay better wages cuz he cant keep it afloat, (note all the ppl who applied are already successful and clearly dont need the money). But I dont know because the reporter does very little in asking WHY he cant get help.
Americans I tell you our media is CRAP and it is either pitting us against each other or giving nice little stories like this without doing any real reporting on the whys and/or hows.
Chill. These segments are normally less than three minutes long. There isn't time for all of the details. And if you think the news media is so gaudawful, why not try it yourself?
Alot of time it's the departure of the youth! They're off to make their fortune in the big cities! It takes years before they realize what they gave up! Paraphrasing Joni Mitchell- you don't know what you got till it's gone! Never more true!
