We have a christmas tree business in the area where you can rent a tree that still has it roots so after xmas you can bring it back and they put it back into the ground. This allows the tree to grow until next year and stops wasting trees.
My husband and I are putting our little tree up tomorrow! Since we live in a rented apartment, we have a tiny 5ft fake tree, but we both have large boxes of ornaments we've collected since childhood so the tree is jam packed with decorations. :)
TL;DR: we eat plastic babies, have a second day for gift-giving, weird food, and a week of parties before the big day. In Colombia, we celebrate Christmas on the 24th, not the 25th. Some families have a tradition where we hide a small plastic baby jesus in a cake, and eat it. Whoever gets it wins money (or gets to make the cake next year... it depends on the family). We have obligatory christmas fireworks. We wait until 12:00 AM to open any gifts. It’s common to leave the house and go to (or temporarily rent) a “finca” (sort of a summer house) to have the christmas dinner and celebration at. We also have the “Día de los Reyes Magos” (Day of the Three Wise Kings, I think?) that happens on Jan. 6 where you get another round of gifts. Depending on the part of the country, some families give a small gift on Christmas day and the large important gifts on day of the three wise kings. We also have the “Novenas” which are a string of 7? parties that take place on the days leading up to christmas. Basically, the whole family goes to a relative’s house where they have dinner, sing christmas carols about baby jesus, pray, and then maybe have a drink, dance, or even have a party. It all depends on the household. They’re pretty fun. We eat buñuelos and natilla, which is a traditional chrismas food (verryyy good, look them up). Buñuelos are basically a round, sweetish salty light fried pastry made from cheese. Natilla is a caramel-colored pudding that tastes kind of like cinnamon (but there are flavors like coconut and cloves and some people put fruit, prunes, or chocolates inside them).

when I was little I went to tree farms like this with my parents to cut down trees for Christmas and can confirm it's a great kids activity! It was so much fun and I have great memories from it you should totally do it when you have a kid(s)

I have a little real tree I got at Tesco's in the post Christmas sale last year reduced to £1.75, it lived in its pot in the garden all year from january till 1st December now it's back inside for Christmas, and has grown so much in a year. My mum helps me look after it because she has a green thumb, next year it will need re potting. But this long rambling comment was my way of saying that you can have a real tree without cutting one down or planting it outside afterwards

That being said, I used to work on a Christmas tree farm and watching people shop for trees always makes me happy and for some reason I felt I wanted to tell you that.
This is the first year that i can remember not having a real tree, because i moved back to the city. I used to live in the country and we would cut down our own tree from up in the mountains.
Shaylee 274842 we would, as a family, always go hunting for a tree on our property. I found out after I was grown that my dad actually pruned several he found to make sure there was always a perfect tree for us to “find”. ❤️

Hello from Canada btw, hello! Fun fact, balsam fir and Fraser fir needles fall waaaaay less! If well watered, they last a long time and leave less mess with the needles. So a million needles won’t fall off every time you put on and take off an ornament! They also do make your home smell amazing! ❤️

Since I’ve been subscribed to your channel Jessica, it seems as though every few months you are taking a few extra steps backwards. Yes, that sounds as if I’ve gone daft (I don’t think I have 😜) but I mean that you are taking steps back to your childhood in the Lake District! I know you weren’t exactly 'healthy' as a child, but you speak of the times spent with family: grandparents, parents, cousins, etc. with great fondness, as well as something we spoonies all feel at times... a wistfulness to go back to a time when we were ‘healthy' & appreciate it SO DO much more!! I suppose that what I notice is that you are becoming more like Claudia where the outdoors are concerned! Hello Lovelies! I have to admit I had never considered whether I could reach around the tree when buying one. And I also have never considered the bounciness. This year we have a vintage artificial tree. Steve put it together today. I bought some cinnamon-scented pine cones to add. Claudia, I would have gone on the nature walk with you! Jessica, did you know that the antlered reindeer are the females? The males shed theirs earlier and the females will not shed theirs until around April.

I did that for several years, and it smells wonderful, and is easy to trim and decorate. It's a good substitute for a smaller tree.

This year we have a vintage artificial tree. Steve put it together today. I bought some cinnamon-scented pine cones to add.
