  • I travel to the Wimmera town of Dimboola to discover how an influx of art saved a town in decline. It was a town that was slowly dying until a remarkable transformation occurred recently. I also look at some of the natural pearls of the region including the Little Desert National Park, the Pink Lake and Lake Hindmarsh.

Wow, what a fantastic tour of Dimboola. Dimmy as some affectionately call the town is well and truely coming up in the world. There are towns that are getting a new infusion of young blood and here is no exception. With leaf changers moving in to buy and renovate old homes along with young families building their dream home, the area is picking up. Along with new home owners brings business opportunities, and I’m looking forward to the soon-to-be arriving store holders along side recent additions. And don’t forget STEAMPUNK, best ever entertainment in the west.

Dying? I don't think so. It is and always has been thriving. Changing, most definitely and in a very positive way.

How many empty shops? How many banks pulled out? How many local little manufacturers closed? Is it still the shire HQ? Still got the daily train service?

@jeetts59 I did the same for years but I’m really glad I stopped this time. Now Dimboola will be my designated overnight stop every time I make that journey. It’s a lovely vibrant town😀

My dad’s family came from there in the early 1900s. Lived in faith or fay street what I’ve been told.

Dimboola has always thrived, in the 80's Kennet Decentralized all small Victoria town, but the town survived and families have always lived here. Most of the businesses here are local proprietors and it is not because of one business coming to town that others have come, we are local. Meran n Stoff have been in the Victoria Hotel for 10 yrs and it is a credit to them. The caravan park is second to none.
    People have always be friendly.
It was dying, you should research a little deeper before U tubing inaccuracies.

I went to a high school reunion there some years back, I agree, it was totally dead, empty shops etc.
