Probably the best way to explain for anyone that doesn’t get how gross and weird that comment was… is to point out how ridiculous it would would sound if instead he was talking about Starfire, Raven, Gwen, etc and how he’s “never thought of them as woman characters”. It’s not all they are but it is a part of them! And I remember pointing out a handful of examples on that redhead chart he used that were especially stupid to include. Like… Starfire’s Latina coded so not white to begin with and the Titans version still has the red hair and Ms Martian is a shapeshifter and her “true form” looks absolutely nothing like that cute little redhead… or a human girl in general… and she can look literally any way at any time because… shapeshifting! The dismissal of Hazel as “serving the same purpose” is particularly gross… like just because she’s also a main character and also has fairies now she’s somehow just the same character but “woke” or something…. when I guarantee he wouldn’t be saying the new character was just the same as the old one and serving “the exact same purpose” if it was another white boy!

What'd the purpose be?
To apparently prove that its bad when raceswapping happens. The only way that arguement couldve worked for him is if he used a different example where the characters being black isn't important, which doesnt happen a lot with diverse characters because someone being a certain skintone tends to affect how they go thru life and are treated by others, which he wouldn't understand the way poc would
Its funny how he talks about "not seeing color" because... ofc he doesnt. A white guy likely isnt going to go through the same race-based experiences someone like Cyborg or Static go through, or know how impactful Blade and Gerald are as figures of representation. But there in lies the issue. He doesnt just insist he cant see color, he insists that no color exists. He likely couldnt understand the more racial parts of Static because he was likely a kid when he did watch it and doesnt come from a black background. By insisting that color isnt a key part of their character, hes ironically disrespecting Static's creator since he made static to help talk about issues affecting the black community.

“I never saw these characters as black.” And there’s the problem. They ARE black. It’s what they are and that’s ok. The fact he doesn’t see characters like Static that way shows how he has a fundamental misunderstanding of these characters. Static’s race was important because it was a part of his upbringing and culture, as well as his societal struggle. To say you never saw him as black is to completely dismiss him. He IS black and it’s ok to acknowledge that. But of course leave it to a white guy to downplay the experiences of the black community while pretending to totally not be racist

The thing about shows or reboots coming out is now people are allowed to have the lead not be a cis-het white person which isnt a bad thing its just now poc and queer people finally got the spotlight cause for years the main characters have only been straight white folk and whenever there was a black or poc character they were either a stereotype or token. Now in the case of Hazel theres no race swapping and just a original character with no relation to timmy its still a problem. People dont want black or poc characters in media and people like A.S.K shows that.
I'm genuinely happy that this new show has been doing good, not only for the obvious fresh coat of paint in a unique animation style but still making the concept work brilliantly. And that's coming from someone who hasn't watched modern Nickelodeon content since the end of Legend of Korra.
Storytime, but my first introduction to the title of Green Lantern was actually John Stewart from JLU. I hadn’t learned of Hal Jordan’s existence until much later when I looked through a book of DC heroes. I feel like DC fans know these two characters might have the same superhero title, but completely different plotlines and personality traits- it’s basically Hazel and Timmy but done years ago and nobody has complained about them because JL and JLU are some of the best superhero cartoons in history. But if it happened today anti woke cringelords would claim John Stewart is a raceswapped Hal Jordan and frame the show as bad for this
I’m sure the dingus fits right in to those who’s against Miles Morales, during the “he isn’t Spider-Man run” or his comic debut. How are we kept getting more people forgetting more things so recent than Wolverine with half of his lifetime of memory loss?
The cheeky "we should race swap Princess and the Frog" when you could consider it a race swapped movie to begin with... This dude probably thinks that the Disney invented the princess characters
If a reboot ruins your childhood, then your childhood wasn't as good as you think. The old show is still the very same, no matter what reboot, spin off, remake, or revival they make, the original series' gonna be the very same, and therefore your experience watching it should stay the same, unless your personal conviction is fragile and volatile enough to be affected by things you can easily ignore and more on.
Batman Beyond wasn't even a reboot, it was completely in-universe to the other DC shows that were on at the time. Hell the finale of Justice League Unlimited's first two seasons both hat the Terry McGinnis batman in them. One was a time travel episode that also featured an older Static from Static Shock and the other was a Amanda Waller telling Terry all about Bruce as Batman.
"All these reboots just go back to square one" ...Isn't that the entire point of a reboot, to reestablish an already existing property in a different way? Also, it's hilarious that he uses clips from Batman Beyond, which is a sequel series, not a reboot, there's a difference.
a lot of people are saying the fact that he put uncle ruckus on his 'im not racist, i have favourite black characters' list is what shows that he's racist, because uncle ruckus is racist and so one of his favourite black characters being uncle ruckus must mean he's racist. and although he is 100% racist, i disagree on that being a reason why. i mean, just LOOK at the rest of this list of characters. many of them aren't even black, and MR KRABS is there. MR KRABS. i think a more likely explanation to why uncle ruckus is there is because the list was put together without much thought or reason, and i doubt he's even watched most of the shows of the characters on that list. he probably just looked up a bunch of random black cartoon characters to put on screen in an attempt to show that he's not racist. but even then, how did so many white characters make it onto that list. how did MR KRABS make it onto that list?? this suggests that the list was somehow put together in an even lazier way than just googling random black cartoon characters. and that baffles me, because what could be lazier than that? did he ask chatgpt??
@papercut_reviews The TH-camrs I watch who make cartoon content are usually in their mid to late 20s to early 30s 😂, but it's interesting to see someone around my age share their thoughts on these topics.
[Long comment warning!] 2:26 See now, it would've been more reasonable to call it "unoriginal", but then again, that's not an extremely big issue as you can always consider it as a Different interpretation, as it doesn't erase the original. [Now this section of the comment is a bit unrelated to the video] My only complaints with Race swaps is that they make the characters sort of unrecognizable in a sense. Like for example with Shaggy in the Velma Reboot, the only recognisable thing about him is his clothes, they could've kept the same hairstyles and it would've been fine, him being black is a non issue, him not looking like Shaggy is a bit of an issue. I'd say i would've been more disrespectful if it were in Live action like the Disney reboots. I could care less about the fact that Snow White is or isn't race swapped, the fact that it's live action is what makes it awful cause it ruins the charm in favor of making it a "rEaL" movie. (But hey, it's not a big deal, I'm not even gonna watch it, the original isn't gone so that's what matters!)

I think i know, ask, and have been a ben 10 fan since the original series. So i'm going to repeat what i said on alpha jay's video: So Isn't this the same guy that went on a rant about things that he hates about the ben 10 reboot where he named stuff that didn't even happen in the reboot some of which actually happened in the original series or omniverse (the reboot gets to much hate, it's pretty good, not as great as the other shows though and that isn't a bad thing. Hell one of my favorite Ben 10 characters is Glitch Tennyson and i grew up on the original series, alien force, and ultimate alien. Plus it does have action, actually plot like the shock rock stuff, and serious stuff like most of the finals, and has some dark stuff like an intirer slave camp in the first fucking season the worst season of the show. Plus, it has a decent story. And has some of the original writers and it's own unique elements) If so, then this doesn't surprise me at all, i bet ask hasn't even watched a new wish.
Also unpopular opinion but I wouldn't mind seeing Glitch show up in the new comics because he deserves more attention and is kinda underrated (he has a fun personality, especially with him being polite and smart but still having some ten year old childishness and slight brattiness. He isn't a copy of os ben and reboot ben but he isn't the exact opposite of them either, he's just Glitch Tennyson. Plus, he is among the few reboot characters to have character development and growth. His original form has some similarities to original series Ben's design, especially in the face and head, just with the reboots bigger heads, not a fan of the heads being bigger though. Plus, his original form mixes human and galvanic mechomorph design elements, which is neat and makes scince because he is half human and half galvanic mechomorph. It would be neat to see him use his ability to assimilate omnitrix DNA and fuse it with tech more especially with Ben 10k's aliens, like he could make a spitter hoverboard, which would be cool, and we do know why he has that ability as we can see omni-energy when Glitch transforms and we know omni-cores make omni-energy Plus upgrade upgrading the omnitrix is why is Glitch exists so it's obvious he would have an ability that relates to omnitrixes. Hitch sucks though. He has none of Glitch's character development, barely any personality at all, and nothing unique). "His powers have no explanation," First, we know that Upgrade upgrading the omnitrix (it is why he exists not to mention the cause of season 2's plot). Second, we can see omni-energy when Glitch transforms. The only thing that we know that makes omni-energy is an omni-core, making it obvious that upgrade upgrading the omnitrix had resulted in Glitch having an omni-core. So yes, it does have an explanation. "The ability isn't even used much" this is very false. Glitch's appearances are Innervasion Part 3: Strange Bedfellows, Innervasion Part 4: Mind Over Alien Matter, Innervasion Part 5: High Override, LaGrange Muraille, Franken-Fight, Buggy Out, Mutiny for the Bounty, Wheels of Fortune, Vin Diagram, Chicken In Chichen Itza, Part 2: The Wages of Fear, Xingo's World, Players of the Lost Park, and Ben 10 Versus the Universe: The Movie. The only episodes that Glitch doesn't use the assimilating abilities are Innervasion, Mutiny for the Bounty, Xingo's World (I think. I haven't rewatched that episode), and the movie. That's four out of eleven. Also, personally, I'm glad Glitch has that ability as it prevents him from just being a copy of ship power wise (I still adore ship, of course). It does suck Glitch only got to use that ability in his rustbuggy form, especially scince the writers kept reusing the same aliens, only one of which was really useful for that form. It would have been awesome if we got something like a Diamondhead omni-copter. Plus, it would be cool for him to assimilate DNA in his armor form. Especially since his armor form could harm and handle the attacks of an amped version of vilgax on its own. For the record base, vilgax can with a step incredibly easy and can tank attacks that are at least equal to his own power, and Glitch fought an upgraded version of that. Plus, we know Glitch can use the powers of the aliens he assimilates the DNA of. Also, I like all of Glitch's designs, but I really wish he got to keep his original form instead of being stuck as a go-cart or armor. He isn't just another version of Ben, he is his own person. Glitch Tennyson. I'm probably going to get called out for how long this is. Sorry. Also his original form in innervation is capable of fighting to. And I like all his designs.

Sadly, alot of people say that about Miles too! It's so dumb.
@@beanpastepostsit’s a relatively recent thing for Miles to stand out than Peter. In his original comic he was very similar to Peter. It was only when Miles was entered in the main universe they experimented with him. Spiderverse film famously made it so he was very art.
So he was no longer was a teen who looked up to Peter.

The amount of people thoroughly roasting ASK Air is incredible. That video was so awful I didn't even go through the whole thing! And to add Uncle Ruckus as an example of "I'm not racist, guys" as well as the "I never saw these characters as black" comment is extremely insulting.
Completely deserved, it was a horrible video
Yeah, it would be one thing to say you don’t see them JUST as black characters but he didn’t and I really don’t get the impression he meant it that way… comes off as him saying they’re “not too black” and that he can ignore it and enjoy them anyway, which… yikes.
@@KestrelDCOr he’s using uncle ruckus as an example because he’s like “yeah that guy knows their place” uncle ruckus is Racist And has a very weird Stockholm syndrome thing for discrimination
@@KestrelDC actually according to Starfire's comic origins and plots she's black-coded, not Latina...she's just as light as Trudy Proud is...which can easily be confused for Latina when she's not...and being as light-skinned as Trudy is seen as a harmful sterotype...casting Anna Diop was actually an aversion of the "Trudy Proud" lighter look for the Max show back during the 2019 DCUniverse days, not saying that blacks can't be light skinned or that Hispanics can't be dark skinned since Afro-Latinas are a thing, but her plots aren't really Latina allegory in either the 1980's comics, 2003 show and the Drake-roster 2003 comics or 2019 series...they are black allegory.
Kori's origin sure looks like an awful ride on a slowboat doesn't it?
She was also enslaved and forced to marry an enemy after her sister Blackfire did this thing that most royals even African ones did at the time- sold her into slavery, but not just any slavery...they made her a "night slave".
Racism plots were always her department...especially when she told Cyborg that the T-Bomb is Interlac for the N-Bomb.
Political Meteor Showers (sometimes literally) was also a problem of hers too.
She also routinely gets flack because she a Black Girl is in love with a White Man and their love is almost as popular as Lois and Clark's, but yet she cannot be together with the man she loves because she isn't a non-meta...and the man she loves is also forced to marry a non-meta as a backhanded way of saying "you're not light enough" by the editors of the bat-books.

You know the guy's critique is racially motivated when he talks about doing a raceswapping to the godarn Princess and the Frog, one of the most beloved Disney films with arguably the best Disney princess, a romance built by the two protags knowing each other, an incredibly charismatic villain, etc.
Why'd he be okay with rebooting a movie that it's great already, only because of the skin tones?

If a reboot ruins your childhood, then your childhood wasn't as good as you think. The old show is still the very same, no matter what reboot, spin off, remake, or revival they make, the original series' gonna be the very same, and therefore your experience watching it should stay the same, unless your personal conviction is fragile and volatile enough to be affected by things you can easily ignore and more on.
To quote Hellsing Abridged: "Nobody 'ruined' your childhood! *The Teen Titans you knew is still on DVD!"*
1:03
that's a really common thing with cartoon critics in general unfortunately
Batman Beyond wasn't even a reboot, it was completely in-universe to the other DC shows that were on at the time. Hell the finale of Justice League Unlimited's first two seasons both hat the Terry McGinnis batman in them. One was a time travel episode that also featured an older Static from Static Shock and the other was a Amanda Waller telling Terry all about Bruce as Batman.
"All these reboots just go back to square one"
...Isn't that the entire point of a reboot, to reestablish an already existing property in a different way?

2:26 See now, it would've been more reasonable to call it "unoriginal", but then again, that's not an extremely big issue as you can always consider it as a Different interpretation, as it doesn't erase the original.
[Now this section of the comment is a bit unrelated to the video]
My only complaints with Race swaps is that they make the characters sort of unrecognizable in a sense.
Seeing this video made me feel crazy im so glad people are talking about it😭
