I think it was more that had no life outside the job. No friends, no hobbies, just going out to the pub with a couple of employees and his "good friend" Finchy. You can tell in the Christmas special when he still comes to the office and desperately tries to cling onto those friendships.
That Xmas Special was so hilarious, heartbreaking and harrowing. Whenever David visited wernam hogg he deserately needed attention and to have some sort of validation. It's like being a Teen Idol whose popularity waned and still visited a Teen Magazine thinking that they would want to interview him but they don't. He's semi old school.

I do wish Gervais would find it in himself to come up with something as good as this and Extras agai n, but I suppose he'd have to kiss and make up with Stephen Merchant for this to happen. I watched his last stand up Armageddon recently and it truly was rather frightfully lazy stuff.
Just watched all of life’s too short here on TH-cam.That was good and didn’t get the same love as this or extras. And obviously the Ricky Gervais show is hilarious but just sitting talking isn’t the same as writing and playing in a show
I gave this video a thumb down because it's the same old scenes. Why doesn't the Office youtube channel upload any of the other great scenes? Such as when David is in his local fruit & veg emporium? Or the one where they pull Ben's pants off during on comic relief?
@@darrenstopper1806 Absolutely! They are dull but kind of funny. There's another funny scene where David's handing out goodies and someone in the audience throws something at his head.
I've got all the dvds so why do I keep clicking on this channel? loyalty, reward... satisfaction.
Are the facts
David kept it together remarkably well, considering that he was a chilled out entertainer trapped in corporate hell
Brent mused:
😂
Trapped in corporate Hell? I don’t agree with that in the workplace.
He really is an Outstanding actor
4:53 'Don't make me redundant' - The hell of work... you hate it but you can't live without it....
And the crazy thing is he doesn't even think that much of his own job -- he just invested so much in trying to make the most of it
No, actually, i just hated it. The first chance i had to grt away i did. Never thought about it again.
I've never wanted job so badly that I would turn down a big redundancy payment 😅

I knew Neil and the introduction of management was the end of Mr David Brent and The Office. Damn Swindon lot.
„All his main hits“ 😂
What I wouldn’t give for a generous redundancy package.
Yeah, it's a bit sad but watching it now it's like, you got a generous package, most people are just kicked to the curb.

I think he didn't exactly have a surfiet of friends. The office was a large part of his social life when he worked there.
