I love how Karl's idea of translating a word to someone who doesn't speak any English is just giving a synonym and then repeating it forcefully
The idea was to have subtitles so you could see what the word was in your native language.

I don't think Ricky's idea was to a actually teach people English.

It's unfortunate because if you listen to any of their conversations you can tell that Karl is obviously intelligent and has no patience for any bullshit. It comes out so well with 100% unintentional comedy. It's hilarious to those of us who think the same but are too obedient to say what we're thinking. Gotta love him.

I thought this would be an educational video and I watched it seriously for 40 seconds and then I realised I know enough English to enjoy this masterpiece.
Ricky knows exactly how to get the funniest out of Karl, he's brilliant at planting seeds in Karl's mind then letting him run with it.
I love how as soon as he's given control of the scenario and realizes that he can do whatever he wants with it, he uses it to vent his own personal frustration and completely abandons the idea of helping others or teaching english. lol

I think to Carl it IS a genuine conversation. Once you get him into a scenario and make him care about it, which is pretty easy, he is there defending his viewpoint as if it was real. That's exactly what makes him funny. Carl, suppose..., and off he goes. :D
I don't believe Karl genuinely is as stupid as he comes across, I think in his own right he is a comedy genius, he plays a character that I feel everybody has deep inside. I feel it's partly put on and partly real at the same time.

every time I feel like my English has lessened, I come back to this lesson. I have been watching this lesson since 3 years now. always fresh and helpful.
Karl is an improv genius. He continues holding an imaginary cup of tea after the skit is over. He licks his finger to turn the pages in an imaginary appointment book. He starts getting genuinely annoyed by an imaginary spa customer's waxing requests.

I must have watched it at least once a year, it's better than Xmas for me. If you liked this, hopefully you've seen The Ricky Gervais Show and Idiot Abroad starring Karl Pilkington, both are as genius.

Ok, to those saying "Karl is not playing, that's just him being himself", you are only partially right.
While he is just being natural most of the time, when Ricky forces the role upon him, his ability to improvise and keep the straight face while doing it is what I find hilarious in this particular video. Like he instantly transforms into the role he is given. He is obviously the strange individual, but I'd also say a natural born comedian. Doesn't need to try hard being funny, he just is.

I've been listening every single night for the last 6 years, I've heard all their content over and over and I'll never get bored of it. Something about it is soothing, i forget everything i got going on and just listen to those 3 rambling on
