Once I got the cloth using his method, when I quit the game and return, Varre's dialogue reverts back to telling me to use the fingers for invasion. What did I miss?
You should not quit the game and return when using this method or else it will revert back to the previous stage of the quest.

after recive a scarf (after cheat engine- bypassing pvp step), can i quit cheat engine and play "normal", will quest progress "normall"/unbroken? or should i do all quest steps witch CE?
Yes you should exit game close cheat engine and open the game
It shows question marks in the memory region
Don't do this anymore if your game version is 1.6. It has been patched by then, and you can now do the quest offline (search other guides for that for that in YT for now).
Will still leave this method up, if anyone wants to play at a lower game version and only plays in offline mode.

how to change the first column
It is trial and error. If you notice, typing in 18 on the first column may not result directly to 18, unlike in the 2nd column.
You have to try random numbers until you get it to turn to 18. I'd start from (0 to 99).
