I received my automatically mailed out ballot a week ago, easily filled out the candidate portion at all levels, studied the pros and cons of the several initiatives while sitting at my dining room table, and then put it in a nearby drop box today. Then I run off to Morocco on Saturday to get out of this craziness for 2+ weeks. I hope I come back to a saner USA.

The serious question is this: *_WHY is USA allowing trump to run for his dictatorship!!?_* This question is not about all the legal (and practical, and ethical) reasons there should be for a convicted felon, a seditionist, a person found liable of sexual assault, and an ex-president who messed around with highly classified documents showing/selling them to who knows who, to not be allowed on any ballot. It should also be noted that the threat would be virtually the same without trump, as long as people like those behind the Project 2025 are allowed a chance to get in power. Had Haley been the so-called republican candidate, she might not have been voicing dreams of retribution and vengeance, nor been talking about being a dictator and praising the despots and dictators of this world, nor promising that you won't have to vote again if you just give her your votes now... but she would have brought the Project 2025 with her into the White House. I've posted the above a few times already, and two persons from the UK commented that this could never happen in their country. My reply was/is: While it also might seem doubtful that this is something that could happen in my home country, Norway, no one should take for granted that they are immune to it. If the immensely unwholesome trump phenomenon has created a few silver linings in the rest of the world, it's that it is serving as a warning. Norway, pointing to Poland, Hungary, and USA as examples of how wrong things can go, has concluded that it is necessary to implement changes to our constitution. To better safeguard our courts from political interference, populists, and coups. Highlighting that it is imperative to do so now when the political landscape is relatively peaceful and the courts independence is not in question. In other words: to prepare for eventual future events of the more chaotic kind while the means and the consent to do so are present. Of course, it would be wonderful to see similar positive and necessary steps being taken elsewhere as well.

If the immensely unwholesome trump phenomenon has created a few silver linings in the rest of the world, it's that it is serving as a warning.
Norway, pointing to Poland, Hungary, and USA as examples of how wrong things can go, has concluded that it is necessary to implement changes to our constitution. To better safeguard our courts from political interference, populists, and coups.
Highlighting that it is imperative to do so now when the political landscape is relatively peaceful and the courts independence is not in question.
In other words: to prepare for eventual future events of the more chaotic kind while the means and the consent to do so are present.
Of course, it would be wonderful to see similar positive and necessary steps being taken elsewhere as well.
Some may have seen this oh-so-long post before. There are people who have urged/encouraged me to keep posting it, so now and then I do just that, on different channels hereabouts.

Once I voted and got confirmation from the county it’s been counted, I felt 100% less anxious.
