Remember the Toyota Hilux, Datsun 620, Chevy Luv (Isuzu), Dodge (Mitsubishi) mini trucks from the seventies and eighties? Reliable, easy to maintain, decent fuel economy.
Honestly, I believe relatively few actually NEED a large truck. Having said that it is still preferably that people have the ability to choose. Personally I prefer a smaller truck about the size of the new Ford Maverick.
I did see a kei truck in my neighborhood here in Fla. we need to allow these to come in, the "safety" excuse is stupid, since motorcycles are allowed, kei trucks should be allowed as well. we all know this is just protecting local manufacturers that want to push 60,000 dollar pickups down our throats.
To get it into America, it will require a few changes. Make it rediculously HUGE. Make it go 200 mph, even though the fastest you can go in all the USA is 85. Make it get 12 miles per gallon.

When this first came out it was as a fibreglass coupe with a brilliant 4 carb 4 cylinder motor. Fast light and agile. The 360 was special except for the carbs. Too many fires in the throttles.
My 92 Ford Ranger is close. Maybe a wee bit uglier, but almost no purchase costs campared to other higher valued trucks. Plus I've got a V-6, 5 speed manual with towing torque. I'll take old, ugly ,and no payments over pretty, delicate, and $800-900 a month payments. I mean, its a work vehicle, a small farm/urban homestead vehicle, not some curbside cutey.
Even if it gets made, it will never be available in the USA. We can't have sensible things here.

I had a 2003 Tacoma, four banger, stick shift, very vanilla, but it had airbags and was mini pickup sized with the simple powertrain.
I owned the Dodge (Mitsubishi). 5 speed, 4 wheel drive. Drove it 260,000 miles. Sold it. The BEST vehicle I've ever owned.
The EPA & auto maker lobbies will not allow this to be sold in the USA.
Need this in the US. Will never see it though. Our government decided we need huge, overcomplicated, piles of trash.
