Fun fact about Harras Harlaw. That bit mentioned during the taking of the shield forgoes a really badass point. I think it makes sense still, because Jorah left such a bad taste in his father's mouth that Jeor literally took Jon for his "heir" just so he could pass Longclaw to a better person. Also, there's the fact that Longclaw was at the Wall, so is not like House Mormont lost anything, they already didn't had her, and if it sounds crazy to take a valiryian steel sword to the Wall, Dark Sister was also there at some point and went missing, and Dark Sister belonged to the Royal Family.
It makes sense: a battle axe relies on the weight of the blade to pierce armor and cuts limbs, but Valyrian steel is light and sharp edge, so it's not a perfect fit for such purpose.

I’ve always found Tywin’s relationship with Valyrian Steel quite odd: he’s annoyed House Lannister doesn’t have one, trying to buy one on at least three occasions from less wealthy Houses but all turn him down. But why is he? Given all we’ve known about them, none of the big Houses except at the time House Stark have one and two of them Greyjoy and Targaryen lost theirs. And then when he does manage to get two of them, he gives them away to Joffrey and Jaime! Jaime I can understand, Tywin sees him as his heir, but Joffrey! Come on Tywin at least keep one for yourself mate. Also this is a headcannon but I definitely think he tried to buy Longclaw and Lady Forlorn.

So, that's a total of 18 swords (one having been turned into two others, so 17 existing ones), one horn, one mask, one rod, one circlet, one axe and an unspecified number of daggers. That's actually a fairly low number if there's really supposed to be "a few thousand" Valyrian steel weapons in the setting.
Especially interesting that none of the other great houses other than the Starks still have one, although I suppose Robert managed to make do with his regular old warhammer quite well.
Tbh, I'd want to have a Valyrian Steel Spear. Imagine the wicked weapon you could make with Valyrian enchantments added onto it? If the Martells had a Valyrian Spear, that would've been awesome.
