@duhmez Yeah, but most shooters which are well designed and "fair" (aka: NOT broken in the gameplay department) are actually fun. So, there is no complaint from me about getting hit once. Ha ha. Thanks for watching, as always! :)
I've got both of the Super Darius games for my PCE-CD, which thankfully are quite good. If my need to mercilessly slaughter fish with advanced weaponry was only given Deep Blue as an outlet, I'd probably stick to fishing simulators.
@canceresbunny I can honestly profess not to be very much "into" RPGs. But, there are some good ones (notably the Ys series, Cosmic Fantasy, etc). Hope to get to them eventually. :) Thanks for watching.
At least you "tried" to stay calm during the review. I'm somehow also glad that it wasn't released for the VC. I don't own a Wii, but I wouldn't want anyone to suffer through this like you did. Just try to keep your heat down, especially at this time of year, man.
You feel my pain! Some people actually thought I was too hard on the game when I first reviewed it but if they only knew the horror that is .. gasp .. Deep Blue.
oh yeah I remember this one. This is maybe the only game I bought from tzd that I regret. The story sounded cool. The graphics looked reasonably detailed. I had no idea it was 4 levels of hiding in a corner waiting for a boss, only to repeat it with more enemies and still no ending. It endlessly loops those 4 boring levels with no change except more enemies flooding the screen. Like the swarm sessions weren't bad enough now the whole thing is a swarm session and the swarm sessions are a sharknado... underwater. There are no end credits that I have found, and I beat it twice in a row on tg16. Then later on I used save states on an emulator to try and find an ending scene or some end credits somewhere. I haven't found any sort of ending. It just loops forever on that second difficulty level after you beat it the first time. Honestly I still like the ship. The ripple effect on the fins is nice and it's an interesting idea to make the eye the life bar. But that is where the "interesting" of this game ends.
@Niekra I kept debating, trust me. If a game "turns on," to me, it deserves at least a half-point. So....then I add a little on after that. I kept swapping between a 1/2 and 1 at the end. Lol. :)

The funny thing is, while this game is a complete fail of a shoot em up, it is the only one I have ever played where the key strategy is to balance avoiding enemies and ceasefire with blasting as much as you can. They created the avoid em up genre lol. I would give them points for innovation, but Im not so sure it was intentional.
Nice, a new video already. I saw your preview of Legendary Axe II on your facebook group, and then started getting impatient waiting for it. So when it finally came out, I didn't expect a new video so soon PLUS it's a game I owned. I too was drawn into Deep Blue by the box art. I always played this game with rose colored glasses on, but deep down I knew how much it sucked. I just didn't want to admit to myself that I'd wasted my money.
I really wanted to like this game, too. The graphics always seemed so much more lush and alive than most games on the system. But graphics aren't gameplay.

@koolaidportal64 I have noticed that sometimes about TH-cam videos. Every once in a while, I "can't" play one (and it just sits there either loading or I get "error"). Sometimes changing the quality setting helps......other times, it doesn't care less. LOL. :(
The concept is pretty interesting, do you think they were trying to go for the Ecco the dolphin type audience with it? It could have been an awesome idea for a game. But speaking of Darkwing Duck, are you planning to do TaleSpin any time soon?
It's funny, me and a friend were the only people at school with TurboGrafx 16s in junior high, he had dark wing duck, I had deep blue, so we started skateboarding instead. Lol
I beat this game and it was pretty difficult because i was getting bored which was the core challenge of the game, getting you so bored you lose your guard and die against the wave this Edit again: this game was very difficult
Yes,when you look at the box,it look very good,but,when you play it....Still,game have one good point,you can use it to show,that fun factor is much more important than graphics
I think even giving it 1 turbo chip was being nice. D: That game was a major Piece let me just say. I remember me and my brother playing that game and wanting to throw it out the window. And then my boyfriend got it and I warned him about it. But no he had try it for himself and then he agreed with me that Deep Blue sucks. Great review Spida.
This game was always around $10 new at Toys R' Us, so you knew you were getting a below-average game (I did it anyway though). I believe R-Type was usually around $30.

I remembered this game from the old T-16 VHS tape I used to have. I thought it was a cool idea having an underwater SHMUP. But thanks for the review because I would have picked it up. Looks like it's got all the makings of a shitty shmup. Sluggish controls, weak weapons and a hit box the size of a bus.
@MN12BIRD I absolutely LOVE shooters (hence, one of the reasons I love the Turbo). But.....Deep Blue.....it's just a horrible abomination of gaming. :) Thanks for watching.
if thiers one positive, its that you can take a few hits before you die, which i kinda hate it when shooters only give one hit till you die and run out of lives and game over.
@Ragnarok3000 Deep Blue doesn't seem like Gradius at all (nothing outer space about it). It is a lot more like Darius with its "sort-of" underwater feel and the marine-like bosses.
@TheGamerFromMars I was debating about that. But, at least Timeball had some thought into the design of each puzzle by the creators. I can't figure the thoughts they had in this one. :)

LOL Badass review bro! Your reviews of bad games are classic! I'd love to see a review of Rock On - that shooter sucks almost as bad as this one!! I agree it looks pretty to start with, and for the first five minutes it's a passable shooter! But the boredom soon sets in, and as for no continues - having to replay the whole game is just poo.!

@007megamike Yeah, but it sure makes things a tad easier to "pause" using the trick. I mean, I'd rather shut the game off a little at a time than actually PLAY this one. Ha ha. :)
You dont need to keep pausing the game to replenish your energy! All you have to do is stop firing. If you stop firing then your energy slowly recharges (you can still move). Of course... not being able to fire when so many baddies are filling the screen is near impossible! I developed a tactic by just dodging everything and then id take a couple of hits then id recharge again, couple of hits, recharge a bit more = NOT fun. Pack-In Video produced some of the worst games for the PC Engine.

The best avoid-em up you can have access to, is Psyvariar for the PS2 or Dreamcast. It was made by the creators of the cute-em up "Cotton", Success.
