Just 2 things are nice: I like the pixel art of the bosses, and the FF laser is one of the coolest shmup weapons ever, as long as you manage to keep it. This game is totally about loosing your weapons through accidental "upgrade" pickups.
@AL82 Thank you for your channel, it's a real dope for me. I had played so many hours on these games, it's remind me my young age. Thanks to your videos, I want to finish games that I never had the courage to finish. BUT, there is a lot of cool pc engine game that you don't cover, Jacky Chan, Final soldier, BC Kid, gunhead.... :)
I remember being so impressed by the screenshots in VG&CE back in the day. Almost got a TG16 but opted to go with Genesis (wise move as far as support).
I had one back in 1989, we had around six games for it and the whole family used it daily. I saw a good port of Street Fighter 2 on it, looked on par with Segas and Nintendos ports, I actually preferred the vibrant colors on the tg-16, but prefer the snes sound and options. Graphics and detail wise all three look pretty close with minor little differences that do not stand out readily.
I think Compile games in general are just some of the best vertical shooters you can get. I always kick myself for not getting Space Megaforce when I had a Super Nintendo.
This game sucks beyond everything that has sucked before.. Quote B&B.... Seriously, I don't understand the praise. The music is great in level 1, ok in 2, meh from 3 to the end. Same with level design. The upgrade system is the most annoying ever made in a shmup and it suffers hard from the Gradius Syndrome. I'll take Final Soldier any day over this crap. Cheaper and easier to come by too.
One of my absolute favorite games when I had a TG-16. Great music and a proper end track.

So expensive now.
The SNES would choke totally on the amount of objects in Stage 3 and slow down to 10 fps or something.
Level 4 turns into some kind of Salamander clone.
Aka Gunhed
