    I grew up with no TV, not even a video player, until i was 8 years old. Never had television. I was jealous of the other kids sometimes, but mostly i didn't miss what i never had. And i am very grateful to my parents for that now, best thing they ever did for me. I was one of the last kids on the US to have an old fashioned childhood playing outside. I learned to read avidly and use my imagination. My sister was 5 when we finally got a video player, so she grew up with videos and Hollywood in the house, and although she is a sweet and intelligent woman, she is a bit different from the rest of us now. I feel like not giving your kids a phone now is the same idea. But even better to not give them TV either. It is garbage. And i would say that my father read books to us and sang folk songs and ballads to us, and that is another excellent thing to do for kids. We loved it and i think it had an important effect on me. I didn't fully appreciate it or realize how special it was until later.

      WHAT!!?? You want today's parents to interact with their offspring? How barbaric. So, when they are having a family dinner there is a placeholder for their phones so they can communicate with each other is more appropriate. Haha I grew up the same, dinner was at 5PM (there wasn't microwaves yet. If you wanted a hot meal, you had better be home) and be home before the streetlights turned on. Simple rules for a simpler time, and somehow my mom knew where I was all the time and who I was with...amazing

If all phones disappeared from existence today, 99% of the people in the world would be rolling on the deck in withdrawal. It is a rarity these days to walk down the street without seeing a person who hasn't got a phone seemingly growing out of their hand! Pretty soon, babies will be born with one hand being an electronic device instead of a thumb and 4 fingers attached to a palm! The dawn of the X-Men is upon us!

    I have a story about tiktok.
    So my young cousins, who are both 8 and 10, a girl and a boy, (we'll call them Tommy and Carly) have had access to phones since they were probably around 3 or 4.
    Now, Carly uses tiktok frequently (which, naturally, disgusts me), and in an attempt to stop this, my mother and I tried to talk with her parents to at the very least prevent both of them from ever using tiktok again.
    Their stepmother interjected on their fathers behalf and said something extremely... well, there's really no other way to put this, but idiotic.
    She essentially said she isn't worried about Carly using tiktok because apparently, in a hypothetical situation where Carly sees something highly inappropriate, she will, and I quote: "Swipe away."
    But she's more afraid for Tommy because supposedly he is too young to know to do this.
    This shows a complete lack of not only understanding, but caution. Young girls are by far more likely to be hooked on and preyed upon by these toxic social media platforms, and your solution is to expect her to make the wise descion? A ten year old girl? That is utterly ridiculous. As many of us know, children discover internet pornography at around the age of eleven. And you think a ten year old is gonna act more responsibly? If she EVER (God forbid) saw something scaring, she wouldn't "swipe away", that's not how children work. When they see something intriguing, they desire to interact with it more, not less.
    This perfectly displays the problem we have here. Too many adults are putting too much faith in young kids to make massive and potentially life altering decisions.

I was addicted to it, ‘till Jesus freed me from it. I wish I had never convinced my parents to get me a phone at that age. The hardware is a spy device though, that curates the access to content that is harmful through partnerships with government, and corporations who are willing to prey on kids. These devices are systematically placed into, and required to be used by children as "learning tools" as well, with no restrictions.

    • @ortialni7
      @ortialni7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the hardware is still a problem. Having LED lights so bright, so close to one’s eyes is bad for their health. Myopia has been rising exponentially among all age groups. That doesn’t depend on the content shown by the phone. The same can be said about electromagnetic fields, which hurt our sleep and lessen our attention. Simply living in an apartment where neighbors are using smartphones is prejudicial. If we know some people have to move their entire life to wave-free areas, we know it’s not entirely harmless for the rest of us.

    Setting timers and restrictions. Blocking untrusted websites, and checked through the internet history every so often.
    Every parent MUST do this if they want to allow their children smartphones or computers.
    There is way too much crap on the internet not to. I'm honestly shocked at how many parents are so careless about this.

      This requires parenting, which sadly is a dying concept. The parents are as indoctrinated into convenience as they allow their kids to be now. Convenience is a plague on society, that allows us to give up our rights for nothing more than to avoid minuscule annoyances. It shows up in every sort of interaction we have. Trained to be "headline readers", and "click-bait informed", which leads to indoctrination into ignorance.

      That means parents need to continuously educate themselves on these things as well by talking, and monitoring what their kids are doing to understand the methods they are finding.
