I was so glad to get to do the Kennedy space center tour. I actually cried at the shuttle reveal. I cried at the 2 tributes to those lost in this flight and challenged
Agreed 100% was in Canada 3 years ago. Fabulous country, great people and they produced Rush the greatest rock band in history! Gos bless Canada, it's the country we forgot how to be!......
This is their best song, bar none. Geddy's vocals were so expressive and moving, and the 5/4 section shows off their instrumental abilities so well. The guitar solo by Alex is a perfect high point as well. You will not find a better representation of why Rush was one of the best acts in history.
Rush. The greatest rock band in the history of mankind. They have been going on for 35 years now and have never put out a bad album. They have influenced many to pick up an instrument including me.
I'm 55 today my friend. I watched in 1969. I wanted to go to space. 1965, I watched the bridge of Enterprise. I stood in my kitchen in tears when Mark brought the last shuttle down. I watched that man bring the bird down on NASA's website. My 74 year-old Dad put his hand on my shoulder, said it's OK son....
Thank you so much we have to remember those embarking on the discovery of things unknown and Rush were always poised to be on the cutting edge of the unknown their journey is all of our personal journeys RIP brave ones and God bless their families Perfect song for a quest to remember 📡✝✡
Thanks for making this. As a 2112 kid in 4th grade, I was in high school when POWER WINDOWS, and HOLD YOUR FIRE were released. Not only are those my two favorite RUSH albums, but I believe it was when they were at the pinnacle of RUSH-ness.
Making you cry? I stood as a grown man when last Shuttle touched down to wheel-stop. Cried like a baby I did. Gabby's husband was down. My own dad said to me cry my friend.......
Hold your fire - Keep it burning bright Hold the flame ‘Til the dream ignites - A spirit with a vision Is a dream with a mission I hear their passionate music Read the words That touch my heart I gaze at their feverish pictures The secrets that set them apart When I feel the powerful visions Their fire has made alive I wish I had that instinct - I wish I had that drive Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire Focused high on soaring ambitions Consumed in a single desire In the grip Of a nameless possession - A slave to the drive of obsession - A spirit with a vision Is a dream with a mission… I watch their images flicker Bringing light to a lifeless screen I walk through Their beautiful buildings And I wish I had their dreams But dreams don’t need To have motion To keep their spark alive Obsession has to have action - Pride turns on the drive It’s cold comfort To the ones without it To know how they struggled - How they suffered about it If their lives were Exotic and strange They would likely have Gladly exchanged them For something a little more plain Maybe something a little more sane We each pay a fabulous price For our visions of paradise But a spirit with a vision Is a dream with a mission…
You could not pick a better Rush song to set to an AWESOME TRIBUTE of Columbia. It also pays homage to Challenger in spirit. A bad split with my girlfriend left me pretty heartless. I still cry when I see the ending of this video. Don't forget, the 25th Anniversary of Challenger is next Friday.
if you forget everything else about this .. the video the shuttle ... just listen to the lyrics and the skill in their amazing music and story telling.. Thank You Rush this is your theme song !!
Astronaut David Brown filmed hundreds of hours of all these astronauts training for this flight. A one hour documentary was created from these. It is excellent and is probably on TH-cam.
This video is . . . . . . . .is . . . making me cry. What an awesome tribute. The sum is greater than the two parts. (5 Stars and favorited) I wish I could have show this to my students before I took them to the McCool Statue in Lubbock a few months ago.
Amazing tribute put together by the subscriber here! Well done video. RUSH is an amazing band...for those non RUSH fans please search a song called "Countdown" by the band. They paid tribute to Columbia's first launch...it will give you chills!!! They were ivited to watch the launch, were so captivated by the experience, and wrote a song around the video of the launch, surrounded by words from NASA, and great great music...
I miss Neil 😪 i miss them all but i miss Neil..Rest In Peace Sir !! and Thank You for a whole life of witnessing your greatness .. Every concert , every song , everything ...For ever in my heart forever in my head forever in my memories .
I posted this 16yrs ago , Please share .. im not a typical you tuber but i would love to reach a higher number of views for all that love space and Rush and all those who went before us and paid the ultimate price for progress
I still weep when I remember Columbia, this Tribute is a beautiful thing, and I absolutely broke down. Thanks, I feel better (for now). I've been a Rush fan since '72.
Im so sorry for your loss, I made this as a tribute to the humans who risked it all for a little more knowledge for the greater understanding of what it means to reach out beyond the stars and someday expand the human race to the far beyond , May their memories always be in our thoughts !
Go to work every day? Work hard at what you do? I watch people lighted upon a candle. I offer, cold comfort to these people. Ride around make comments these days.
@JonnySchretz: Countdown is a great song, and there's an awesome video for it done by Rush, but the meanings of the two songs are completely different. "Mission" best fits this video because it's a tribute. Thanks Dre323!
BTW this would be nothing with out the inspiring music of the best band in the world !! RUSH my whole life includes rush from the age of 12 to 40 yrs later incredible is the only word that describes my heartfelt feelings about Neil Geddy and Alex
what makes me sad id i dont feel people remember what was lost on this day.... Humanity lost a great group of people on this flight ... remember them all .. remember the dream !!
I remember the day well a good friend of mine got married on that day ,him and i use to play guitar together.key word use to, got married ,now we do not, true story. O shit.
30 years of service. 2 were lost. I stand as man and say most complicated aircraft ever built? I would say a resounding success? We lost friends in the process from many nations. I would have suited up in the cargo hold and said light her. Just to see? Solid rocket segments came within 100' of my house on Norfolk-Southern railroad. My thoughts were "God-speed" my friends, God-speed.
Every loss is sad but i believe some how that their loss has led to things to prevent others who dare to go to space from suffering the same fate. Thank You for you post
@nev594 May I offer, I was driving home from work, I heard on my radio... apologies, I lose it thinking about it. I knew they were gone. I heard Columbia, contact.... Houston said ............... sorry.
I was so glad to get to do the Kennedy space center tour. I actually cried at the shuttle reveal. I cried at the 2 tributes to those lost in this flight and challenged
I would offer those 3 fine Canadians have changed humanity, for humans who bother to listen.
damn right...my ,license plate is 2112Rvsh for a reason
Wow I am so proud being a Canadian, thanks for a well made statement
I would say so. I only got to see them live once.
Agreed 100% was in Canada 3 years ago. Fabulous country, great people and they produced Rush the greatest rock band in history! Gos bless Canada, it's the country we forgot how to be!......
@@MrSupercoz Thank you my friend.
Now Canada is rising again for freedom, and the rest of the world is following.
We will never bow down to tyranny!!
i was so lucky to find all the footage from this flight, i want to thank everyone involved in the photography that i used
This is their best song, bar none. Geddy's vocals were so expressive and moving, and the 5/4 section shows off their instrumental abilities so well. The guitar solo by Alex is a perfect high point as well. You will not find a better representation of why Rush was one of the best acts in history.
Well said my friend.
I 100% agree…Such a perfect song. Seems like everything lined up perfect at that time.
Rush. The greatest rock band in the history of mankind. They have been going on for 35 years now and have never put out a bad album. They have influenced many to pick up an instrument including me.
They are the best flat earth band ever. Love them

This song is a touching and well deserved homenage to that heroes.

My own dad said to me cry my friend.......
i am so greatful to all that still comment here Thank You
Wow this actually has me in tears. The song fits too perfect.
Hold your fire -
Keep it burning bright
Hold the flame
‘Til the dream ignites -
A spirit with a vision
Is a dream with a mission
I hear their passionate music
Read the words
That touch my heart
I gaze at their feverish pictures
The secrets that set them apart
When I feel the powerful visions
Their fire has made alive
I wish I had that instinct -
I wish I had that drive
Spirits fly on dangerous missions
Imaginations on fire
Focused high on soaring ambitions
Consumed in a single desire
In the grip
Of a nameless possession -
A slave to the drive of obsession -
A spirit with a vision
Is a dream with a mission…
I watch their images flicker
Bringing light to a lifeless screen
I walk through
Their beautiful buildings
And I wish I had their dreams
But dreams don’t need
To have motion
To keep their spark alive
Obsession has to have action -
Pride turns on the drive
It’s cold comfort
To the ones without it
To know how they struggled -
How they suffered about it
If their lives were
Exotic and strange
They would likely have
Gladly exchanged them
For something a little more plain
Maybe something a little more sane
We each pay a fabulous price
For our visions of paradise
But a spirit with a vision
Is a dream with a mission…
Very, very nice. Neil Pert 9-12-1952 1-7-2020. Rest well Professor, you were the best there ever was.
