@@Sakosaga Its nothing to do with instant torque. Its to do with one being rated at the wheels and the other at the crank.
That "instant torque" line is getting old. The only gain to an ev is response - not how much torque it can make low down because thrust at the wheels is what counts (torque multiplied by gearing over time) and that almost always goes to the ice thanks to multiple gears.

  • @D3ltal4mbda22

You have made valid points regarding the use of all the functions. Which the N series has, but it was stated during the drag race that the NGB function only works for 10 seconds. While I agree that an ev could be the way of the future, I don't believe the tech has evolved enough. With the utilization of hybrid technology, it would give eve developers more time to perfect it. When the steam engine was nearing its end of life, it was getting mileage of 100 mpg. ICE has the potential to be reliable and honestly safer (automive fires in ICE vs. EV). This test was purely based on performance as that is the direction that Donut has always taken. No, I'm not bashing you. I just wanted a healthy discussion.

In general, the electric car is the one that has the problem of heat. Internal combustion engines are much stronger than electric cars in terms of heat. The fact that the Mustang went into limp mode due to heat problems on this short track means that it cannot enjoy the circuit freely. On the other hand, the 5N can drive 60 km hard without any battery or brake overheating problems.

I know he was running the AC on one of the laps, but even with it off it was still having some problems. The first performance EV that Hyundai makes and it's been praised up and down by tons of reviewers. Never spoken of any issue really, and certainly not related to overheating. Decades of inaction on that front are forcing a faster transition than we could have had otherwise, but still most companies are producing ICE engines until 2030 or 2035. Consider that we are also moving towards a future with cars being replaced as often as phones.
With the complication and inherent danger in working on electrical systems in EV cars, we will see a rise in repair shops specializing in this area. However, the repairs themselves will be much more expensive. As a tradeoff your repair schedule is essentially zero with an EV, but your repairs that do happen are much more expensive.
What I anticipate is that planned obsolesce will rise in cars due to cost. It gives the manufacturer a whole lot more control over the vehicle (even gas cars are increasingly moving towards tracking data, just look at the response toyota gave to the GR Corollas that burst into flames) but also allows them to lock out users from "higher trims" which are essentially just software. A trim upgrade to allow you faster speeds is essentially an update, but not something the car is unable to do due to mechanical components.
Overall, I think we will run into an issue long-term with cars and recyclability and disposal of. We already have this issue in the tech sector, but it will become much more obvious 20 years into the future once electric cars run into similar issues and have much larger sizes to work with. ]Not to mention the increased cost in general of insurance with EV and modern cars due to the mass amount of sensors in the car.

I will love ICE configurations until the day I die, but I understand their impact on the world around us, so some day they'll probably just be a hobbyist thing, and that's okay. We the millennial folk are used to the ICE configs, we grew up with them, we watched them change, and now there's a new generation of drivers getting on to the roads and EVs are slowly becoming the better choice all around. Unless we find an alternative fuel source that is readily abundant, efficient, and not nearly as pollutant as gasoline the ICE is going away.

It's just so stupid to talk about everything that is so good about the car and then totally write it off at the end just because it's an EV. At least talk about why being an EV negates all the other long list of positives. Things don't progress if we just keep blindly saying we don't like things without describing why.

@@germannerd1 I can see how some folks would have more fun in an EV, especially if they aren't use to racing with an hshift car. It would be like trying to convince a horse person to just swap over trackday driving. It's just a whole different experience. I drive both, and my EV is my commuting appliance for a reason, even though it's slower my ICE car is my fun car.
It's not that an EV has negatives, it's more that it doesn't have the list of positive an ICE has, when reads like a list of negatives for non ICE car people.
True, there is an intangible to it, a subjective feeling if you will. Maybe it's because I've done everything from taking the ICE apart and put it back together, changed the clutch, upgraded various parts of it (mostly cooling), down to just the simple "life" fluid changes. Maybe it is all the real mechanical sounds/vibrations (like turning the key for that cold start sound, hearing the starter wind up and ICE bark to life as I hold the key is a therapy in and of itself!) and feel of actually pushing and pulling gears into place; being able to nail that great lap with all the skills needed and moving bits at play to keep the car in the power band as often as possible. There is a labor of love and a give and take relationship I have formed with my hshift ICE car that's just missing from my EV commuting appliance. Even though the EV is objectively faster, I would sell it in half a heartbeat instead of my ICE car.

Everyone has known this for awhile now. As a vehicle you will use 99.9% of the time, you would be foolish not to consider an EV. There's a reason why there's so many of them on the road nowadays. I understand over a decade ago it was novelity and those people were truly guinea pigs. But now that's been over a decade of developent, and infrastructure has been put in place, you can't go wrong with an EV.
The problem lies with finding a proper EV for your lifestyle.
Granted, not everyone will be able accomodate an EV in their life. It requires some proper battery knowledge more than anything else. The problem lies with people thinking they can "fill up" an EV the same way you can with an ICE vehicle. Once you learn the proper way of operating an EV, you'd always wonder how you went along with an ICE vehicle for so long...
For those fortunate enough to be able to afford 2 vehicles and house them properly, you can have the best of both worlds. Have the ICE of your dreams and leave the EV as your daily commuter/errand runner.. 🙂

I had it that way, then the N came along and replaced the gas car with the N. The N doesn’t need to warm the engine for 10min, doesn't do 6mpg when having fun, don't need to replace all oils every 6 months, doesn’t heat soak when stopping for a chat, won't dump the gearbox and/or engine out on the street if I misshift once. The list goes on.
Yeah it's no real engine sound but it feels great. Just like I can enjoy (electronic) music streaming on speakers, don't necessarily need to be sitting in a concert hall listening live to a virtuoso on his grand piano. That's nice too, and so is an NA v12 that revs 12000rpm... But not necessary to have fun, per se.

I love ICEs but at the end of the day, EVs are the future and are objectively better (at least, in terms of performance) than ICEs.
