When I saw his video the other day putting in the hood pins I knew it wouldn’t hold. Those style latches look nice, but aren’t very secure. And with only 2 of them once the hood flexes they’ll release. Should have 4 across the front and probably 2 more on each side. And either the old school style with the clips or the flush mount ones with the lever that locks them. Those button pop up style latches just don’t hold when under high load and things flexing.

@Teitz Mcteedies exactly... in my opinion, while its a cool idea and build and has a lot of potential, I think Rob is in over his head.. Which is why he has struggled for like 5 years now trying to put this car together. Meanwhile Mazzei and Logan have some of coolest and most functional 4-Rotors out there thatr have been running for years. If Mazzei went AWD, OMG that would be insane.. Massei's 4-Rotor is probably one of the most beautiful cars on the Planet.

I feel so bad for rob. He’s put sooo much blood, sweat, and tears into this and shit like this always seems to happen. I also kind of feel like the guys and everyone in general pokes fun at him for having these issues. Without noting the fact that this is one man, his own genius/determination and no real team. Do u know how much hoonicorn RnD alone ? Ken had mention somewhere around 5 mill usd, and thts only RnD , my guess overall is 10 mill its a custom car everything is done with custom

@@michaelgomez4994making a pure lap-speed comparison at le mans is ultimately meaningless. endurance racing isn't about lap-per-lap speed, it's about reliability. An F1 car would certainly be faster than a GT3 car around Le Mans...but it would break before ever finishing and lose to the GT3s by a country mile, not to mention have to pit for fuel every 2-3 laps. The only problem the 787B ran into in 1991 was a dead headlight and an overheating (but not failed) rear wheel bearing, meanwhile, the C11s (*not* C9s, the 787B never raced the C9, just the 787A) had multiple issues, including a spin, gearbox problem, other undisclosed mechanical problems, and also had to moderate its pace by conserving fuel -- a slowing factor that the 787B did not have, since it was efficient enough that fuel consumption didn't really matter.
It's getting carbon fibre bodywork next anyways ;) Plus Rob is genuinely one of the coolest people on the planet! He lives for Ahura and practically any amount of damage is worth a chance to run with the Hoonicorn, let alone Ken Block!
@@EnkeiTenjin The car isn't even done dude, he only really started full-send building it this year and is learning as he goes. The fact that it made it down the track once is an accomplishment given that it's really never been tested. They put the hood latches (wrong latches) in it a few days ago and had intended to half-mile race it to prep for this but a garbage oil pump prevented any testing. Now Rob can go back and not only finish the car, but he has real data to know what changes he needs to make. Make no mistake, Rob's 4-rotor RX-7 is no Hoonicorn, it's an impressive car and I think it'll be pretty sick once it's complete.

I loved the genuine encouragement from the KB team, recognizing that one man and his car could give the Hoonicorn, a product of a huge team and tons of financial backing, could build such a potent machine. Way to go Rob for building such a badass machine and the the KB team for being respectful and for all the incredible entertainment they provide us here on YT!
Mad respect for you, Rob! I can tell that you put your heart and soul into building that car. I love that you reverse engineered part sizing by counting pixels in a CAD image. As a machinist, I've actually had to do that before for a customer who didn't have a clue how to produce a mechanical drawing of his part. The drawing was missing so many critical dimensions that I had to resort to finding them based on the known dimensions, and pictures of the prototype assembly.
That's actually what it supposed to sound like it has 4 Rotors each rotor fires 3 times so 4x3=12 a v12 has 12 cylinders fires once every rotation so 12x1=12 times so should sound identical.
I rewatch this from time to time, and every time I got tears in my eyes, I'm not a Ken expert, or a car enthusiast, I just liked the man, and the whole atmosphere he brought along with him, reast in peace sir!, and Rob Dahm, what an inspiration he is, from him I ve learned that it's ok never to let go of your dream and it s ok to be obsessed about what you love
I met Rob at SEMA 2019, saw the car (in progress at the time) and talked with him briefly. He was very cool and just like a normal car guy you’d meet anywhere. I’m glad to see the car (almost) finished.
I could be wrong but it just seems the Rx7 lacks the torque of the mustang and resulted in the slower launch. It appears the weight shift was close enough to say it was not really timing. Rotory motors are a high rpm motor but not so much a torque monster. Imo

The way Rob and Isaiah are down to just tweak PIDs and hack panels off the 4 rotor is hardcore as hell. That whole body is a one-off and I'm pretty sure they made the panels themselves.
You should watch Rob's video where the drive shaft blew right next to him, after that they put a bar over it to protect him 😂 they are also carbon fiber so they don't really explode, just the glue breaks holding the U joint
just made it back to this video again. Still cracy that Ken Block is gone. He was so young and still had so much to offer. But it's cool that he built a team that's still carrying on in his memory, doing awesome things
This video made me so emotional. Watching Rob build that thing over the last few years, this feels gratifying. We all cannot escape what a straight up legend Ken B is. He is such an enthusiast that one simply cannot deny him his dues. He legit wanted Rob to spank him. This video is the greatest example of why I love youtube and the people who share their stories on it.
honestly the best part in this video was when Ken asked if Rob had a good launch and when told no, he was a little sad. just goes to show how much ken respects those around him, especially those who were inspired by him to build their own dream cars.

I feel so bad for rob. He’s put sooo much blood, sweat, and tears into this and shit like this always seems to happen. I also kind of feel like the guys and everyone in general pokes fun at him for having these issues. Without noting the fact that this is one man, his own genius/determination and no real team. I can’t imagine the money and man power that went into hoonicorn, and no one on the team nor could ken even come close to making something like the 4 rotor even possible. All things considered Rob did an amazing job with this car.
No, he could've come close or better, even get past Ken. Rob isn't used to his beast yet. He isn't comfortable with it. Look at those launches and yet he still comes few meters below Ken. Just imagine if he was use to that beast of a car.

i felt like they were being kind of douches to him the whole time. just like some bro backhanded compliments, like " the first person to lose by 3 cars and have a smile on his face. you deserve it, im happy for you." if i put all that effort into building a car MYSELF, idk, it just didnt seem like chill vibes. especially cause the dude seemed so chill and just kind of humble, and clearly idolized and took inspiration from the hoonicorn. they just acted kind of cringy to me.. i dont know anything about them though, so this is just my opinion and first impression lmao

@@michaelgomez4994making a pure lap-speed comparison at le mans is ultimately meaningless. endurance racing isn't about lap-per-lap speed, it's about reliability. An F1 car would certainly be faster than a GT3 car around Le Mans...but it would break before ever finishing and lose to the GT3s by a country mile, not to mention have to pit for fuel every 2-3 laps.
The only problem the 787B ran into in 1991 was a dead headlight and an overheating (but not failed) rear wheel bearing, meanwhile, the C11s (*not* C9s, the 787B never raced the C9, just the 787A) had multiple issues, including a spin, gearbox problem, other undisclosed mechanical problems, and also had to moderate its pace by conserving fuel -- a slowing factor that the 787B did not have, since it was efficient enough that fuel consumption didn't really matter.

The car is a piece of shit. It's inconsistent, it can opens itself down the track, still wears glass. And Rob can't even drive the thing.
@@EnkeiTenjin The car isn't even done dude, he only really started full-send building it this year and is learning as he goes. The fact that it made it down the track once is an accomplishment given that it's really never been tested. They put the hood latches (wrong latches) in it a few days ago and had intended to half-mile race it to prep for this but a garbage oil pump prevented any testing. Now Rob can go back and not only finish the car, but he has real data to know what changes he needs to make. Make no mistake, Rob's 4-rotor RX-7 is no Hoonicorn, it's an impressive car and I think it'll be pretty sick once it's complete.

I loved the genuine encouragement from the KB team, recognizing that one man and his car could give the Hoonicorn, a product of a huge team and tons of financial backing, could build such a potent machine. Way to go Rob for building such a badass machine and the the KB team for being respectful and for all the incredible entertainment they provide us here on YT!
Mad respect for you, Rob! I can tell that you put your heart and soul into building that car. I love that you reverse engineered part sizing by counting pixels in a CAD image. As a machinist, I've actually had to do that before for a customer who didn't have a clue how to produce a mechanical drawing of his part. The drawing was missing so many critical dimensions that I had to resort to finding them based on the known dimensions, and pictures of the prototype assembly.
Keys that could make rob win:
Auto cut-off on shifts
Get used to launches
Bodywork that won't fall off
I’m pretty sure he has auto cutoff but with his trans it’s safer to still use clutch regardless
He has flat foot on his shifts via a load sensor on the shifter
He has it , the knob on his shifter is sensor that detects how hard its beeing pushed probably he needs to adjust his values or something

I met Rob at SEMA 2019, saw the car (in progress at the time) and talked with him briefly. He was very cool and just like a normal car guy you’d meet anywhere. I’m glad to see the car (almost) finished.

I could be wrong but it just seems the Rx7 lacks the torque of the mustang and resulted in the slower launch. It appears the weight shift was close enough to say it was not really timing. Rotory motors are a high rpm motor but not so much a torque monster. Imo
