It's probably my favourite game of the entire series and one game I have a hard time noticing major or game-breaking flaws. I played the hell out of this on PS3. I enjoyed it so much, even got the platinum trophy on it, just wanted to keep playing. After,I remember thinking "Wow, that was even better than a lot of Mario games."
I would get really close to my TV at times just in awe of the scenery and the boss designs and animations. Couldn't believe how sharp and colorful everything was.
Not sure which impressed me more, the visuals it the music. I really dug the gourmet level's music. The songs with the low voice "Aye aye ya yai" especially were charming. And the bubbly jibberish in the water levels.
Coincidentally, I just beat Rayman Legends. Loved it, but not as much as origins. I wish they kept the times bonus lums. The music stages REALLY shine though. One song in particular was a great surprise.
I look forward to a Legends review some day. I'd rather the reviews be a random surprise. I had to skip weeks of the Sonic ones as I haven't gotten to the later games yet.
Sorry for the wordy comment. :)

They built an engine to make these rayman games that allowed tons of different layers of art to be scrolling. It's one of the most visually stunning games ever made. So it was worth it building the engine just to make this and Legends. It allows artists to simply make the art and then upload it to the engine, rather than having to worry about pixels and making game art the old fashioned way. It saved on development time as well. I'm not explaining it well but yeah, go watch a video about the game engine, and how revolutionary it is

Also, you start to give a shit in the last levels because Every single Lum counts before the medal. I love Rayman Origins. I runs so perfect on the PS Vita that you're impress how Ubisoft was able to make the platform run so well on a handheld device. Every time I bring up this game people don't know anything about it which is sad. Rayman Origins deserved better than what it's sold for and, yes, we did get get Rayman Legends but Rayman Origins nailed everything I love in platform game. Truly underrated. A masterpiece

This game got me properly into video games. I was definitely a casual fan, but I wasn't involved in the community until I played this and was hooked.I wanted to be a cartoonist, so when I saw the trailers for this I was amazed at the art style and became extremely excited and began watching the first lets plays I'd ever seen of the game on youtube.

Thanks, cool that you're still responding to comments. I found your videos recently with the sonic unleashed one, really enjoying them, I'm going to work through your entire sonic retrospective after I'm finished exams. Any plans on playing legends now? I don't think it's quite as good (they toned down the difficulty a bit and the artstyle isn't as cartoony) but it's more polished and has some amazing moments.

Origins bombed that badly... WHAT?!?! I remember wanting it terribly as a kid, but nobody brought it for me, so I think... I might be misremembering, but I think I didn't even play it until after Legends. Makes me feel bad I never got the game back then, though. And it would have been right up my alley too.
... I only played it on 3DS however, which is a completely playable port and still fun as hell, but that compression. Yeowch. You're making me wanna play it again on PC man but I just don't have the time.
One weird thing is that I have much stronger memories of Origins than Legends. I remember having about as much fun with Legends back in the day (like, what was it, three years ago) but also breezing through it. I hate when games are like that, it really hurts replayability because novelty wears off and you're left with challenges that usually aren't that stimulating. I don't mean to just dog on Legends, but I think I would like it less if I replayed it. I hope if I get to replaying either that I don't just like them less overall.
I still remember them well enough to say that both are great games though, tbh I think they deserve a lot more recognition. Can't really think of something that captured quite the same spirit before or since.
I remember Jungle Run being pretty fun too, though I can't say much about the other mobile games (I liked Fiesta Run but the egregious IAPs turned me off from getting far and never played Adventure). Honestly if you're hungry for more 2D Rayman they're probably worth a shot even though most people just forget they existed.

I don't think this is Rayman 4. Just a spin-off sort of thing. We'll see, Michel Ancel said after BGVE2 he plans on doing a new 3D Rayman game. Also I hate Rayman Origins' fetish for smacking eyeballs.
The game is fine, but I don't understand why there's such an emphasis on hitting people in the eye. Like, stop.

I think this is the first video where you criticized the game and not my review :D I'll be curious if they ever get around to a proper 3D Rayman. I suspect it would be like Super Mario 3D World.

Ouch, I feel bad admittedly to be viewed in that position. Of course, who am I to really give advice since I do basically the same as you on this platform. Anywho, I will keep watching and keep commenting, if you're into that sort of thing. 0:

My only issue with Origins is that it set up my hypes for Legends too high. Origins struck a wonderful level of difficulty in its secret last level, and Legends simply never delivered. It did have some hard levels, but those were all those short timed levels, which made them feel less like levels and more like quick challenges. It did have those Bit Trip Runner levels, but those were simply not enough to count as a true final challenge type of level.

It still feels like a very under-played game. DKC Tropical Freeze and Rayman Legends get so much praise, and are often hyped as the greatest side-scrolling platformers ever. But Origins blows them both away.

Amazing game. I have 2 requirements for most games.
    1. Gameplay
    2.Atmosphere
The game is fun and interesting to play throughout each level while the art style makes the game so easy to look at. And holy shit...the music is phenomenal. The game wouldn't be the same for me without it's incredible soundtrack.

This game is absolutely one of the best platformers out there. One game that I think comes close is Super Meat Boy but the sty;e and music in Origins are far better and the game is less frustrating. I didn't know the game sold poorly but it did well enough for a sequel that I'm sure you will enjoy.
This is one of the few games that I bought, traded in then bought the deluxe edition of just for those silly things that came with it because I enjoyed the game so much!

    • @retrooutcast9790
      @retrooutcast9790 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Origins, unlike Meat Boy, wasn't deliberately designed to piss people off. It's hard, sure, but I think how it's presented in games like Origins, Legends and DKC is a million times better than it is in a game like that. Also, on the subject of presentation, Meat Boy felt more like nostalgic pandering to me than anything to really take in like with Rayman.

Just to let you know, the first king is a plant, the second is a mockingbird, the third is a dragon and the fourth is a shrimp. I lose how the corrupted versions of the kings barely resemble their original looks. Also, you forgot to mention the Land of the Livid dead. A bonus level with a bonus boss that tests all of the game functions to their limits. It’s a level that takes everything good about the game and makes it even better! You unlock it by collecting all ten ‘skull teeth’ from the tricky treasure levels. And the final boss is the ‘mother of all nightmares’ who when defeated, reveals to be the voodoo mama. Since you didn’t cover this level in the video, is there any chance that you haven’t played that level?

@implantgames @6:49 minor nitpick and I guess I'm being overly semantic, but the creatures on the staff aren't enemies. Enemies have to intend to do harm to you, and/or impede your progress. Those green creatures fit neither category.

Here's my take on Origins - I love it, it's genuinly a fun game and while 100%ing it was frustrating at times, it was also hella fun at others and felt doable the whole way through. It's a deviation from the original Rayman formula, but that doesn't mean it's bad, and for what TYPE of game it is it's done well.
But I hated, and still do hate, how it was advertised as a prequel to the original Rayman. I don't care what the devs say, this game is NOT a prequel. There are simply far too many incositencies for that to be the case. And I don't hate that it ISN'T a prequel, I hate that it was advertised as one - that made up 90% of my reason to buy the game and I felt so cheated when I saw it was actully a reboot and not a prequel.
Once I got past that though, very fun game.
