The only problem I had with this review was that he said it was too easy. I don't know if the difficulty changes how the game is aside from lives, but I've been finding myself in some slipperly slopes more times than I can count. Trust me, it's great what you did on it, and I would say more fair than the original from what I've played, (Which is almost all of it now) but I'd need to play it again to make sure of that.
@Chris Armstrong True that, especially on brutal at times. From what I remember, some things were fixed that were a little too unfair, but maybe don't try to go for all the cages unless you KNOW you are ready. Some of these have the most pin-point accurate jumps I have ever had to pull off. I almost have this game completed, but I am still having such a hard time with some of these, getting game overs like crazy. I don't know if it is the difficulty affecting it or what, but it can get extremely brutal on some points. Like I said before, this game is a blast, and he did such an amazing job recreating it and including new things in the game, but trying to complete it is a pain in my butt. I don't think you are forced to do everything though, so it isn't as unforgiving, but still pretty freaking hard.
Rayman was that one character that should have become a legend in his own right. He should be in smash already with the sonic, mario, megaman, and pac man.
You'd *think* Rayman would actually be playable along with several other characters (Shantae, Shovel Knight, Shadow the Hedgehog, Waluigi, Isaac, etc), but that would make too much sense to Sakurai (/)_=
@@xFluing because than it's just a fan game and not a official game. No matter how good a game is if it's not published by the company that owns the characters it's not official

Hell, even the page for Rayman Redemption says, quite literally, that this is a re-imagining, NOT a remake, NOT a remaster, hell, not a "definitive" version (as many blind fanboys call it), but another fan's own vision.
Honestly I don't see the "Too many lives" thing as a bad thing, as long as it's not, like the recent Kirby or Mario games with it. The original had a really dumb system where it saved how many lives and continues you had, so if you got stuck on a boss later on and saved at 0 lives and no continues, you basically could only get more lives from the incredibly scarce 1-ups. Normmally that would make things harder, but in this, it just seems like it makes things more balanced.
Also the final boss in the original was incredibly anti-climactic. All you did was dodge one really long attack from Mr. Dark himself and then fight 2 of his monsters before the credits roll. I'm really happy Dark actually fights for himself now.
I just managed to beat it. Mr Dark was insanely tough. This fight is several times harder than the original. You will most likely not finish him on your first attempts. Once you learn his attacks, it's easier to avoid being hit (Just don't forget about that lightning attack!). You can tell what attack he is going to use by keeping a close eye on him, but he gives you very little time to react. Funnily enough, the hardest part of the fight was the lightning attack. I've Lost count on how many times I forgot to jump over it. The endgame was really tough, but in the end it was worth the effort. At least for me.
I definitely kept forgetting the attack. I usually focus on the character when I'm playing. I had to train my eyes to look at both Rayman and Mr. Dark to jump as soon as he raised his arm for the lightning strike.
The Virgin of Us Part II vs. CHADMAN REDEMPTION There's a surprising large amount of bonuses even after beating the game. Including easter eggs referencing the cancelled SNES version.
Well's there's a hard difficulty now, Called Demise. There are no checkpoints, you only have one health point and the health boosts and the extra lives kill you.
Rayman was my favourite game as a kid, I can't say the same about the muddy colored 3D sequels it had, and even Rayman Origins or Legends weren't as fun or memorable as the first entry. I still play it time to time, and I'm really happy that Rayman 1 finally got the attention it deserves.
No matter how old I get watching and playing this game always warms my heart and soul, the first half of it is just a good memory-trip for me, always ended up on those pencil stages since I still didn't have a memory card at the time
Man that Raving Rabbids GBA track took me right back. Used to play that one and Rayman 3 GBA with my mom after we had fun with the PC versions of "M", 2 and 3. Later on we would play raving rabbids DS. Lots of fun back in the day, although of course I just thought the game was hard rather than kinda bad. RR GBA that is. Ironically enough even the Raving Rabids GBA Cardridge seemed somehow worse than normal for me and got prone to crashing after a while. (PC Raving Rabbids didnt go much better as I would essentially be locked upon the minigame where they shoot plungers at you because if one hit me the screen would go fully black and no matter what I did it wouldnt come off or return my sight or anything leaving me to game over.) The original was always far too difficult for casual old me, but I very much enjoy the love hes getting with awesome projects like this. Great stuff as always, Frame!
3:35 Meanwhile Ubisoft just says "throw him into real life, he makes no sense, we can't make easily relatable content out of him. Coming up with ideas is too annoying than just making money".
That "bottomless pit" animation always confused me. I remember thinking "ok, he's holding his butt because those notes are spikey? But he also clearly missed the spikes so what's going on"
Seriously, love your content, especially your library and 3D0 reviews! (Though some times your voice sounds distorted/electric) As for why Rayman isn't as remembered, I'm guessing because while I heard of him growing up, he was also kind obscure and by a lesser known company at the time. On top of the difficulty, the other issue is the fact to progress and see the final level you have to find and break ever Lum cage or progression is gated off adding some very infuriating artificial padding to the game. I do think the sequels, especially 2 are remembered more fondly and I adored Origins and Legends.
As someone who just bought Rayman Forever (it's on sale for super cheap on the Uplay store) THIS version is SOOOOOOOOO much better. You don't have to worry about the soundtrack not playing correctly, all the little things that made the playstation version so memorable are in this as well. My only gripe is it's not 100% accurate, in terms of level layout, and you don't unlock abilities like in the original (everything is unlocked at the beginning) Edit: Oh, and native D-pad support, something Rayman Forever doesn't have in any capacity. Also, wtf happened to Mr. Skop's level? No lava or dropping platforms? He used to be the most difficult boss and that was one of the most iconic levels.
I don't mind the generosity with lives in this remaster; I would have played on casual otherwise.I love this game, and the final boss is nice and difficult. It's perfectly doable when you figure out the pattern, although I'll admit I lost a lot of lives before I figured it out and mastered it.
Hey Framerater Did you know that there’s an option to change the ting noise sound effect between different ones, such as the Ps1 one and Atari Jaguar one, as well as the pc?
Another (what I think is) significant change is that Rayman's jump height off of vines is severely reduced. You practically almost get no verticality from that.
Wait...did the part of the video just got deleted? I had a comment here that was pointing on 14th minute and its not there. And even the video cuts off suddenly.
Today I have seen the newly announced "Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time" and I thought to myslf that they Way it seems to be a Loveletter and an Expansion incorporating Elements from multiple past Titles... that new Crash-Game feels kinda like Rayman Redemption. :o
01:18 "Should you give this remaster a try after playing the original you'll come to realize just how accurate everything looks and especially feels to the source material" And just as he says that we see at 01:24 Rayman leaning forward as the plum swing speeds up, A FEATURE SOMEHOW ABSENT FROM RAYMAN REDEMPTION AND AS RAYMAN WAS MY FIRST VIDEO GAME AND I BEAT IT SEVERAL TIMES AS A KID YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH THAT SMALL DETAIL IRKS ME OFFFFFFFF!!!!
Sadly hes not in smash, you could pull up so many moves, combos, spirits, assist trophies, stages, heck, rayman for what he is is so underrated. He is basically the REVIVOR of 2D, and gets thrown around like a sock. Sad how last game was made in 2013, the only people that actually care about rayman right now are fans, as you can prbbly see here. An entirely Fan made game. Id sooooo love to see my favorite limbless hero on the stage again.
I think another reason the first rayman didn't really pick up the same level of popularity as Mario and Sonic was that it came out around when 3D was starting to come in, I feel like the impact of that transition was on everyone's minds more that they didn't really appreciate what Rayman had to offer to it's fullest extent, which is kind of a shame. Alongwith that we had several years of platforming mascots coming out trying to catch on Mario/Sonic's success, to varying degrees of quality, so at the time that probably skewed the general audience's interest. That's not to say it's presentation and ideas aren't great, I just think that had more of an impact than if the original game were a little easier (though that would have helped a lot, I could never get past the music levels as a kid and the farthest I got as I was older was to mr skops).
Spoiler: Mr Dark has a completely unique extra stage after the first fight (he takes over the giant floating present in the world map) also there is a completely new stage based off of the rayman GBC bonus level named the final challenge. There is also a Kirby style extra boss rush where all the bosses are remixed to be harder. Still stuck on the boss rush so good luck and keep Raymaning, easily my GOTY
Rayman is kinda fun but I suppose the problem is that the animation looked good, real good. But somehow, it had a sense of slowness that no other game had, I once had a friend tha told me "rayman is like a bubsy game but better", and welp, while everything looked beautiful I couldn't deny it looked slow and felt pretty unresponsive at times
I think this game is a wonderful improvement over the original, It give old players a chance to experience The world of raymen and in whole in way, it also offers a incentive to go back and replay the levels.
That bit at the end about how this is just more proof that diehard fans tend understand a franchise better than the actual creators-I really need to keep that in mind, especially as a Sonic fan. I am so tired of developers failing to address even basic and very public criticisms of long-running franchises.
I played this when I was little but it was too difficult for me back then so I never finished it. To me, Rayman 2 was the one I played and enjoyed the most. This could be an opportunity to play this one again :P
Thank you framerate, the colorful and cheerfully alive world is why i love rayman 1 so much and i prefer it to rayman 2 dark and depressing tone. Rayman 2 is an amazing game and i know that going 3d was the right move for ubisoft. But i will always prefer rayman 1 and the 2d platformer gameplay, even if the game was brutally hard
Brilliant review. Just starting to play this myself. I love Rayman 2,3, Origins and Legends, but the original was just waaaay too hard for me. Redemption is proving to be a lot more enjoyable. Subscribed
I really like what I was able to try from this game so far! But I have a question, am I the only one who have framrates issues? Like, my computer is totally able to work big games like Monster Hunter World or Final Fantasy XIV, but Rayman Redemptions, I often have frames drops, so I had to turn down the resolution. It's not a big deal, but I was certainly surprised.
Oh boy. I beated Mr. Dark and after that you get a new last level that is hard followed by the final form of Mr. Dark and it was even harder. Altho beating it was rewarding you saved yourself a long grind of pain. Still love this game tho
Ubisoft :let's have a party for ra.... Rayman redemption : So we meet again Ubisoft : rabids 30 hours later. Ubisoft : *presses nuke rayman from existing. Rayman : Globox i don't feel to goo.....
Ubisoft put Rayman on the AppStore at one point, but they’ve taken it off for some reason. Luckily I downloaded it and kept it on my tablet lol, it’s pretty much impossible using touch screen 😂
I wonder, would you be able to do a study on the entire franchise as a whole? That could be an interesting watch. It's surprising to see how the francise got from 2D to 3D very fast.
This game is absolutely fantastic, it is better than Rayman 1 in nearly every way, and hands down one of the best fan games I’ve ever played. That original game was good for what it was, but this game takes the cake. My biggest issue honestly (spoilers) Is that the main story mode I feel goes on for a bit too long. I really admire the dedication to add new content, and some of it like the boss rush modes are excellent inclusions, but Yknow that final boss? The funny thing is that that wasn’t even the final boss, there’s an entire other final level after that. I mean it’s a great final level and final boss, but it happens right after I spent half an hour on that previous ridiculously hard Mr. Dark boss. I feel like maybe after the first Mr Dark fight, you could get a specific ending, and then maybe after rescuing a specific amount of Electoons, then the true final level is unlocked? I dunno. I don’t know game design. The game is still phenomenal though, this is up there with the best Rayman games for me
The reason why Rayman wasn't as remembered as other 2d games was because it was released just as 3d games were taking over. Nobody cared about yet another 2d platformer, despite how amazing it was. You can't honestly argue that Rayman is more difficult than the average Mega man or Ninja Gaiden games from the preceding console generations.
So it's more AIR or AM2R than Mania? Would you say it serves as a replacement for Rayman 1, a standalone game that retells the first story, or just a novelty before going back to the real one?
Cool video! I didn't know about this, I'll have to check it out! I agree with you about Rayman being underappreciated, all of the mainline games are amazing and he put Ubisoft on the map back in the day! I really think he would make a great addition to Smash Ultimate and man I'd love to see modern ports or remakes of 2 and 3!
As a player of the DSi version, one thing I hate seems to still be a thing, and that's the invisible triggers. It's basically just pure BS to hide everything, including the whole thing about you need all the cages to even beat the game, at least in the original... Seems fun, at least.
Did... did you not unlock all cages for the true final boss nor did the true boss rush via the magician tokens? Because you are missing out (at least for the true final boss with its own unique level being added)
i may be misremembering it, but i thought in the original Rayman, you dont even fight Mr Dark, you just do the boss rush and you do something lame that kills him instantly, and this remake gave him a proper boss fight.
Personally, I don't enjoy the game. The gameplay and all that is ok but it just leaves me wishing it had more content since I enjoy a better reward which the game doesn't give me. I have the classics and the n64 which all honesty the n64 version is my only favorite sorta. I grew up with the game but since there were other cool games out there during my time like Sonic adventure for the game cube and Windwaker it started to look like something I knew I'll never be able to enjoy since there are other things that best suit my taste that the games couldn't offer but I'm glad other people still enjoy the game and honestly wouldn't be mad if they did add him to smash bros of any form. I love the design and charm the character(s) have to offer but it didn't meet my standards that being said you can enjoy the games and all that. It's mostly for entertainment so I'm glad you have a reason to love it since it allows me to see more reasons to try and get into it.
I've been waiting for a new Rayman game to rival Rayman 2: The Great Escape for many years. I loved Rayman Legends and it's incredible. But a 3D Rayman game in modern form is definitely needed. Rayman 3 was pretty cool, though.
Rayman = Too hard for kids + too dull for adults for a new IP plus they were pushing 3d games instead like fuck. That's always been my theory and I'm sticking with it
ok but is not one person gonna mention the name of the sick ass launch base sonic 3 remix Edit: i just seen the credit five seconds after asking this XD

You know... That wasn't the final boss FR ... there is one more boss and then the TRUE final boss appears. So you still had some extra levels to go!
Rayman is as old as i am. Its my platform hero! Cant wait to finally play this game!
I need this on my Nintendo Switch 😍
To bad that can never happen
Oh boy. I beated Mr. Dark and after that you get a new last level that is hard followed by the final form of Mr. Dark and it was even harder. Altho beating it was rewarding you saved yourself a long grind of pain. Still love this game tho
Ubisoft :let's have a party for ra....
Rayman redemption : So we meet again
Ubisoft : rabids
30 hours later.
Ubisoft : *presses nuke rayman from existing.
Rayman : Globox i don't feel to goo.....
"YEAH!!!!!"
turuntuntuntun, wahahahahaha, chims
After candy chateau mr dark flies off with the great protoon and you have to go through the dark tendrils in order to reach him.
Ubisoft put Rayman on the AppStore at one point, but they’ve taken it off for some reason. Luckily I downloaded it and kept it on my tablet lol, it’s pretty much impossible using touch screen 😂
for me rayman 2 rayman origins and rayman legend will always be my favorite rayman games
*Ubisoft, hire this guy!*
Missed opportunity to call it Raymania smh
I wonder, would you be able to do a study on the entire franchise as a whole? That could be an interesting watch. It's surprising to see how the francise got from 2D to 3D very fast.
Video: Rayman Redemption
Desc: Rayman Forever
*Seems Legit*
Lol imo the artstyle looks more like those 90s point and click adventure games like zoombinis
Your little laughing lips icon merged with the boss icons and had me rolling on the floor with laughter.
This game is absolutely fantastic, it is better than Rayman 1 in nearly every way, and hands down one of the best fan games I’ve ever played. That original game was good for what it was, but this game takes the cake.
My biggest issue honestly (spoilers)
Is that the main story mode I feel goes on for a bit too long.
The game is still phenomenal though, this is up there with the best Rayman games for me
The part with two elevator platforms is easy when you use your helicopter hair.
Would you say it serves as a replacement for Rayman 1, a standalone game that retells the first story, or just a novelty before going back to the real one?
standalone game
Thanks man. Rayman 1 was the first game I ever played and I've been dying to play it again in the modern age.
omg i never heard of rayman redemption this is a dream come true for me as a guy which his first game ever was rayman 1 on the ps1....damn
What song did you use during the credits?
I didn't even realise the full game was out already.
The rainbow platform powerup's look is based on the metal fist from rayman 3.
Who are you telling this to?
@@FrameRater everybody just in case
As a player of the DSi version, one thing I hate seems to still be a thing, and that's the invisible triggers. It's basically just pure BS to hide everything, including the whole thing about you need all the cages to even beat the game, at least in the original...
Seems fun, at least.
Did... did you not unlock all cages for the true final boss nor did the true boss rush via the magician tokens? Because you are missing out (at least for the true final boss with its own unique level being added)
Currently playing Rayman Legends. Such an awesome game...tough at times but awesome.
i may be misremembering it, but i thought in the original Rayman, you dont even fight Mr Dark, you just do the boss rush and you do something lame that kills him instantly, and this remake gave him a proper boss fight.
Vid idea: Best YUGIOH Sim? | DuelingBook
Ah I thought it said something else then I researched duelingbook
I absolutely love Rayman and I must say these older games look a lot like earthworm Jim in a way
How did Ubisoft not hire these devs?
I was expecting a Sonic Mania mod XD
Nice video Bro! Question about this remaster though. Do you still need to 100% the game to fight Mr Dark or is has that been removed?
It's removed
Im trying to figer out how to get skins for bizzit and I don’t know how to get it please someone tell me how to get all bizzit skins
I would played this soon. I always wanted to know about this game, I hope they could remake/Revamped Rayman 2 and Hoodlums havoc
This sounds awesome!
Also, you’re re-reviewing Rayman 2? What about that collab review where you said you didn’t like it?
I've been waiting for a new Rayman game to rival Rayman 2: The Great Escape for many years. I loved Rayman Legends and it's incredible. But a 3D Rayman game in modern form is definitely needed. Rayman 3 was pretty cool, though.
I would honestly compare it to Sonic 3 AIR or the CW ports.. Great video, though!
I did not know this existed this was my childhood on PS1 I need to download it
Honestly looking at this, i wonder how if Rayman Maker could work? 🧐
it did! A remake of Rayman Designer
Release this on Jaguar home brew
9:12 AAAHHH
Now I think of it as Rayman air
Rayman = Too hard for kids + too dull for adults for a new IP plus they were pushing 3d games instead like fuck.
That's always been my theory and I'm sticking with it
ok but is not one person gonna mention the name of the sick ass launch base sonic 3 remix Edit: i just seen the credit five seconds after asking this XD
Do I visit the website to access the game?
The original rayman waa difficult because they didnt playtest enough. Ubisoft admitted as much
I’ve never seen Rayman 1 gameplay before, this looks a lot like Ristar
I really want a rayman game that connects all the rayman games together...including rabbids.
