@@joeymanny bro Kyrie been Kyrie since Kyrie started basketball he’s gone shine regardless if he’s the best player in the team or the 5th best player on the team, y’all don’t make any sense at all
With all those categories Gil listed, it would be Kobe. He literally has no weaknesses and checks all the boxes. For me, it's Kobe and Kyrie. I've seen Kobe play a whole game left handed after injuring his shoulder.
kobe and Mike at one time in their careers was avg. at shooting and handling the ball effectively. Kobe and Mike volume shooter.6'7 /6'8and posting up smaller players ... Kyrie can post smaller and bigger Athletic wings ..... Kobe forced a lot of shots Early on just like Mike utilizing their athletic gifts to score ... They also was fortunate to be 6'6/6'7 and Gil said jumping is skill ? How do you evaluate a jumping skill ? Height / Athletic parameters will skew the score... A skill is acquiring a level of expertise ... I challenge Gil to come up with the list first that defines best skill ever then let's score it... Mike and Thomas are the only ones that would score higher then Kyrie if done correctly... Kyrie's Efficiency should scale him to the top of the list ! Defense is not a liability but no where need a Mike or Kobe .. Kyrie doesn't just dribble and if you watch the games he moves exceptional well with out the ball and still scores ... He is a great rebounder at his position ... I put his basketball IQ at the top of the food chain as well...
I didn't say they didn't post bigger players what I expressed was they had size advantage at time based upon they height and play calling .. Height ok.. Depending who you ask.. 6'6 or 6'7' listed .. Kyrie regardless of the advantage can post big and small..
Kyrie’s had a 50,40,90 season. I think Kyrie is more skilled. Especially when you factor in his height and the degree of difficulty to do what he does. He’s not a better player than Kobe but I’ll give him a slight edge on skill.
Just go watch Kobe highlights bro there was nothing he couldn’t do offensively he. He’s made a left handed 3 against Dallas. A left handed post up shot against the pelicans. Turn around fade from 3 against a double team against Portland. And many more bro. Just go look
@@iBeKillinDem23lebron did that too but i dont say lebron because he shoot both hands. Like imma say they not comparable. Kyrie coming off the dribble on his assassin but kobe getting it from the point guard then going to work. So you not gonna see him dribble and kyrie same thing
when skill is mentioned, skill is everything on the court, not just how you score. Lebron, mj, kd, kobe are the types that do EVERYTHING. Kyrie is not the most skilled, gifted scoring? Maybe, most skilled ? Hell no!!!!
Honorable mention to a prime rose. Had an incredible capacity to adjust his shot mid air around the rim when the defense collapsed around him. Underrated finishing ability
I'd rather have Kyrie with Kobe's height than the other way around. I'm sure Kobe would take pride in people ranking Kyrie over him in skill since he was a protégé of his.
Kyrie don’t got Kobe defense though and when your taller , your dribbles aren’t the same when you’re 6”1 Take it from someone who’s played professional basketball before *
Kobe had more hart, it’s also about how much energy you put in it, the rpm your heart is running with. Kobe had higher energy put then Kyrie. Therefore I would have taken Kobe even if he was same size as Kyrie. Maybe Kyrie is able of that amount of shifting because of the smaller size.
This is one the best episodes for me. Lol i love how heated their debate is. Kudos to Jennings for not backing down. Keep these fire conversations up 💪🏼 educated those analysts who doesnt know the feeling of playing on the court.
I could swear that McCants once said that Kobe was better than Lebron because of how Kobe made it look more skillful.... he just flipped this on Brandon Jennings. Saying a bucket is a bucket. Make up your damn mind McCants!
No that’s not it…Ofrensive skill my guy..Things that you can actually learn. He mentioned attributes that in basketball comes with height and size not skill.
No he’s not his skills or ONLY more effective cause he mostly has the ball NEAR THE BASKET where Kylie has to MOSLTY use his skills to get to the basket Kylie is WAY more skilled than jokic, jokic doesn’t have to use his skills as much as Kyrie also because he is a 7 footer
@@KingMcElvy literally every time this talking point gets fired up again about kyrie being the most skilled it’s because of some crazy crossover or some and1 mixtape layup
The key word here is “Skilled” not best handles or dribbler. Skilled means he can shoot 3’s, good with his middies, can pass well, dunk well, can defend and also can post up. So in my humble opinion my best 10. 1. MJ 2. Kobe (RIP Black Mamba) 3. Kyrie 4. King James 5. Steph “The Chef” Curry 6. Hakeem “The Dream”Olajuwon 7. AI “The Answer “ 8. Jamal Crawford 9. Skillwise Olajuwon is arguably the best since nobody can do things he consistently doing, like they mention wemby ball handling skills looks good as a big but it takes alot of skill to do that as 7'5". Most skilled Its MJ or lebron in all categories 1tier .. Kobe and T-Mac(before the injuries)in the 2tier.. BUT if you talking about most skilled OFFENSIVELY it's hands down Kyrie!!!
T-Mac, Vince, Kobe, Kyrie, AI, MJ. T-Mac, Bron, Wade, Dominique Wilkins etc. Tracy McGrady could do it all pass, block, great fake moves, steals, dunking, shooting, post game, his lengthy body had the peefect build for a basketabll player etc. If T-Mac wasn't layed back type he can do it all!! Paul George had a chance to be T-Mac all the way if he was more aggressive but Paul is a calm smooth player with pure talent. T-Mac, Kobe, and Kyrie has a lot of highlights of switching scoring with their left hands a lot. Mac and Kobe has left hand dunks and posters. Kyrie and Iverson layup package is crazy. I'll even throw young Derrick Rose in skills he just didn't have the best jumper and jumpshot ability of shooting, Rose had to develop that later.
Most skill is definitely just offense only. It’s the ability to get buckets by any means necessary. Kobe adapted to the adaptation. Makes the most difficult shots. Cmon man. Easy to me
wrong rebounding, defense, pick and roll etc. are skills too . Charles barkley is 6'4" but he dominates the rebounds and post up game with skills not only physical attributes. Same as Larry Bird, Prime Larry is 30-10-9 shooting 57% fg 40% 3 pt. Larry knows how to rebound technically and facilitate the ball better than kyrie. Skills is more than one on one play which is just a single criteria of skills

Kyrie doing things I’ve seen Jordan and Kobe do around a rim. It’s CAP. Only young people in highschool think Kyrie is the most skilled player ever. That’s WILD
Kyrie has nice handles, layup package, and i’ll even give him credit for being clutch, but i’ve always thought he’s been slightly overrated when it comes to this most “skilled” debate. i honestly think Steph might even be nicer in all those guard categories except finishing, with a coin flip for handles, but then extends the gap with his floater game (at which Kyrie’s no slouch) and of course the 3 ball. that’s just O of course not D. when it comes to complete game it’s MJ, Kobe, KD. T-Mac could be in the conversation. Bird too, he was ahead of his time. LeBron gets into the top 5, above Larry, for combining strength and finesse, but also his playmaking and court vision. Kyrie might be top 10 but that’s only if you’re going with a very specific set of criteria. Even now, if we expand the definition I think Joker and Luka might clear him due to how uniquely effective their style of play is.
Basketball skills broken down by degree of specificity to the sport Primary skills ( skills that you would only use on a basketball court): 1) putting the ball in the basket, ie shooting, lay ups, floaters, runners, hooks ( dunking is more a feat of athletic prowess than a skill that can be achieved by most through practice) 2) dribbling Secondary skills ( skills that are generally used in various sports and can carry over effectiveness on a basketball court): 1) passing (qbs, pitchers, pgs usually share similar traits that make them great passers) 2) footwork ( athletes with great footwork usually excel at being comfortable and effective in navigating various defensive tactics) 3) iq ( athletes with the ability to process what's happening on the court/field more quickly usually have an advantage over ones who don't, even if they aren't as physically capable) Tertiary "skills" ( these are less skills and more traits or qualities that are usually useful in athletic competition, certainly not specific in any way to basketball): 1) speed 2) strength 3) agility 4) jumping ability 5) size 6) stamina 7) confidence 8) emotional stability 9) willpower 10) durability If we go by this scale i don't think anyone surpasses Kyrie but I'm curious to see how others feel
(A+ in both primary skills). Kyrie is the best all around shot maker and ball handler with either hand. He does things with the ball on the regular, against the absolute best defenders in the world that I've never seen anyone else ever do on any level. I can't think of many moves I've seen anyone else do in an nba game that he hasn't. Kobe's the only comp but Kyrie got more in his bag imo. (A- passer) He's a very good-great passer, certainly not top tier in this category but brilliant nonetheless, rarely turns the ball over. (A+ footwork) His offensive footwork is second to none. Whether he's facing the basket with a live dribble or back to the basket, triple threat or going full speed, and everything in between, the footwork is impeccable. (B+ iq) he knows what he's doing for sure but I wouldn't say he's shown to see the game as well as the savants (cp3, kidd, nash, bron, luka, joker, rondo etc) Third tier skills can be debated till the cows come home none of them can qualify a player as the most skilled in the sport of basketball even with all perfect scores. Ie Giannis. (Skill ≠ effectiveness, if Giannis had a reasonably reliable mid range id take him over anyone in history besides LeBron). Also defense and rebounding are more dependent on third tier skills than anything else, iq n footwork can factor in but they won't help u defend or rebound if u lack those third tier skills.
he is telling the truth, visual presentation is just visual, the like of Larry Bird will destroy you with the same possesion that you didnt know what hit you. larry might be slow but he so skilled he can dominate a a big dand strong defender and also a quicker shorter defender. I think, being exceptional in a few skills is better them being intermediate in more skills. The overall aspect of Skills can give you a a number from 0 to 10. Yet, most people are wired to see exceptional as the best allthough it may not be on all sides of the skill sets.

Skilled??? …actually agree with Gilbert. Skills are not just offense. Skills are all around and kyrie can’t guard a parked car. Lebron, Larry Bird are probably the two most skilled players in history. Bird could score from anywhere in any direction. Imagine if Bird could actually jump more than 6 inches off the ground. Recency bias is insane today. Kyrie is a great player. He is not the most skilled guy of all time.
@@tifjffi8105did you see Larry bird play? Serious question. Even Gilbert said Larry Bird. Bird made ten shots left handed in one game. Bird’s passing was elite. Bird was an elite shooter. Gil is right on the criteria and that the meaning of these words are vague However; talent you have naturally , skill is hours and hours perfecting a specific area Sure there is some skill and intelligence involved but Defense and Rebounding is heavily more about physicals, size, effort and motor. Aka your talent
The thing that makes Kyrie game great is that he plays in a way that he doesn't have a skillset because he can really do anything he wants. You can't plan against Kyrie. Everything you do he will just play around it. Kobe was more of a machine. In that all the moves he's doing he's done it maybe hundred times every single day. It literally doesn't matter what type of defense you put on him. He doesn't even need to see the basket. It's systematic. Since he repeats every move he does so often, he improves it by improving the move itself. Jump higher, move quicker. Everything gots to be perfect and even if he did make it perfect. He'd go right back into the gym to work on it even more. It required a lot of willpower and athleticism. It's why he had such a downturn at the end of his career. Most skillful has to be Micheal. Not by a lot of course. But Micheal had one thing Kobe doesn't have and that he can palm the ball. This gave Micheal a ton of control over the ball movement that Kobe didn't have cause he couldnt do it. I mean Kobe did train in that he CAN but its not natural. Micheal had big hands. He had natural control over that ball. Thats why his layup game is so much more crazy then other even in todays standards.
I know the context wasn’t there……..but I think what separates Kyrie is the guts to take those shots and make them on a consistent basis but his stylistic points are off the charts! I can’t believe they left off Pistol Pete though

Thank Gil for his part here. I been screaming this for years. "Skill" is just some shit people say to talk about players whose game they like to watch. Kyrie is the "most skilled" if all you're talking about is dribbling and a layup package (which is all MOST people mean when they say skill). But in reality, dribbling is skill, knowing how the ball is coming off the rim, and how to time your jump to get a rebound is skill. Knowing how to slide your feet to cut off a drive.. skill. Knowing when to stick your hand in to knock the ball away, and having the speed and coordination to do it consistently without fouling.. skill. Knowing how to funnel your man to help defense.. that's a fucking skill. Like damn I like watching Kyrie too... but we gotta smarten up at some point, and respect the parts of the game that aren't just scoring.
Also respect Gil for saying "don't dumb our game down, when you don't do it for anyone else" bc I been screaming THAT shit for years too. Basketball media is by far the dumbest sports coverage in the country. You watch an NBA game, the way they talk about it you'd think they just roll the ball our there and whatever happens, happens. Almost never see anyone describe a set that a team is running.. never hear anyone talk about the thought process that goes into decisions that are made on the court. Buuuuuuuuuut.... Gil talking about don't dumb the game down, but has a pod with Rashad Mccants on it.....
I mean kyrie is good at sliding his feet and knocking the ball away without fouling, he actually has great active hands, I’ve only missed 2 mavs games this season and trust me he does the things I just mentioned.
Jennings is justr thinking more on being fancy not the context, Skills must be gauge if it results to winning, Kyrie is a terrible defender and facilitator as a PG, but great in iso, so it means Kyrie is not the most skillful. Gil is actually right in this. Now even though a person may check all the boxes or more.. if a person is better or unstoppable at a skill, it may override a check. Kobe maybe more skilled than Jordan but Jordan is better. The extra moves Kobe may do isn't enough to Jordan's physical abilities like hanging and altering his shots in mid air.
Gil is correct. What are skills..just shooting and dribbling is what most folks say. What about passing, footwork, defensively, competativeness, etc. These skills, never are discussed. Hakeem, MJ, Duncan need to be in this conversation. Gil is correct again. There are 5 levels to scoring. Not just 3.
It's been a while since I agreed with Gil (he's been on some horrible takes lately).. Even if you talk about "offensive skills": - Ability to create a shot & counter -> I'd say maybe Kyrie, but I'd take Steph over him - Ability to get a bucket -> KD - Dribbling & getting to the rim -> Wade/ MJ / Kobe / Kyrie / Bron There's so many levels to this.. If you talk overall skills: ability to shoot from at least 5 levels, ball-handling, counters, passing, reading defensives, basketball IQ, defending... it's hard to argue over KD, Kobe as most skilled players ever

I agree with Gil breakdown; Kobe is the most skilled imo.
Basketball skills broken down by degree of specificity to the sport
Primary skills ( skills that you would only use on a basketball court):
1) putting the ball in the basket, ie shooting, lay ups, floaters, runners, hooks ( dunking is more a feat of athletic prowess than a skill that can be achieved by most through practice)
2) dribbling
Secondary skills ( skills that are generally used in various sports and can carry over effectiveness on a basketball court):
1) passing (qbs, pitchers, pgs usually share similar traits that make them great passers)
2) footwork ( athletes with great footwork usually excel at being comfortable and effective in navigating various defensive tactics)
3) iq ( athletes with the ability to process what's happening on the court/field more quickly usually have an advantage over ones who don't, even if they aren't as physically capable)
Tertiary "skills" ( these are less skills and more traits or qualities that are usually useful in athletic competition, certainly not specific in any way to basketball):
1) speed
2) strength
3) agility
4) jumping ability
5) size
6) stamina
7) confidence
8) emotional stability
9) willpower
10) durability
If we go by this scale i don't think anyone surpasses Kyrie but I'm curious to see how others feel
(B+ iq) he knows what he's doing for sure but I wouldn't say he's shown to see the game as well as the savants (cp3, kidd, nash, bron, luka, joker, rondo etc)
Third tier skills can be debated till the cows come home none of them can qualify a player as the most skilled in the sport of basketball even with all perfect scores.
This is a really good Analysis….. Thku. 👏 👏 👏 🔥…

Gil is right on the criteria and that the meaning of these words are vague
However; talent you have naturally , skill is hours and hours perfecting a specific area
Sure there is some skill and intelligence involved but Defense and Rebounding is heavily more about physicals, size, effort and motor.

When Gil not in his troll bag he's a really great listen..... Gil said what I been saying for YEARS about this "skill" conversion
Gil still dying on that it’s more than 3 levels of scoring😂😂 if a player is posting up that is a STYLE of scoring not a level, iso is a STYLE that is used to score at one of the said 3 levels, scoring off the dribble/pickNroll and so on are STYLES that you HAVE to score from one of 3 levels from, even if all the STYLES were levels of scoring it would be a lot more than 5 levels but they’re right you have to break it all the way down Luka can score in the paint but he isn’t a post scorer like Jok or Embiid.
Lmfao you the exact mf they calling out. 😂😂😂

It’s actually a level. Posting basically turns the chess board around and slows the pace. Literally would be a different level and please don’t ever coach.
@@adamfeliciano6321 🤦🏽♂️ where are you at when you post up? What does the pace have to do with the level of scoring? Most importantly did you not read where I LITERALLY talked about post ups and the paint?🤣🤣 you thought you got off with that reply but failed MISERABLY
I think Gil is confused about the meaning...There are 3 levels to score from...but a myriad of ways to get a bucket from each level

He really does. He acts like he used to give everyone buckets. Everybody on the panel was better than him 😂.
Facts lol
but he is not wrong on his take over jennings, skills is not limited to offense, because kyrie skills is limited as one dimensional. Garry payton does have more skill over kyrie to prove with winning output and dominating his position . In a mock draft 90% of coaches and Gms will pick gary payton over kyrie because of skills
@@joeymanny Gary Payton better than Kyrie Irving Offensively??? Man please
@@route2388 did I say offensivley alone? Skills is overall from offense and defense, , Kyrie one on one offense is better than gary payton because of variety of moves but Payton have his own way to do the samee with less variety, now Facilitataing GP is way above than yrie, and taking care of the ball GP is way better, Kyrie is a turnover machine as a PG and with so called skills. GP is a franchise player in his prime, Kyrie will enver be a franchise player with all his skills he had he will not out him to the GP elite level
Scotty Pippen was one of the most skilled BB player’s ever to play the game.
I like when Brandon gets mad 😂😂😂 McCants frying him though.
Jennings is justr thinking more on being fancy not the context, Skills must be gauge if it results to winning, Kyrie is a terrible defender and facilitator as a PG, but great in iso, so it means Kyrie is not the most skillful. I would say Gary Payton is far more skilled than Kyrie, since GP led his team to multiple playoffs and also Finals apperance having skills from offense, defense, facilitating and also knowing the weakness of the other players. Kyrie felt short on that, Kyrie skills is just one dimensional
@@joeymannythe fact that you called Kyrie a terrible defender negates everything you just said.
@@Poppi_302 he is, I watch him play and he is just doesnt have that dog style defending or putting the same effort like he did in offense. Thats why guys like bean bryant, MJ, and even isaiah thomas are in different stratosphere than kyrie when we evaluate the totality of the player skills. Kyrie cannot be a franchise a player, he is just a good support players to a much better player such as luka, Lebron, KD and Tatum
@@joeymanny facts
@@joeymanny If Kyrie doesn’t get hurt in 2018 , none of you would be talking like this. He never got a fair shot. But anyway fuck a franchise player, he’s a championship who outplayed a “franchise player” twice in the finals. ITs franchise players blowing 3-1 leads. What does that really mean. He was the best player on his team multiple playoff games. If Giannis didn’t intentionally injure him in 2021 he’d be sitting on 2 rings rn. Defense is not a skill that’s dumb if ur not athletic no matter how hard u work on it ur gonna be a walking cone 💯,being a good defender is a talent it’s not skill, same thing with rebounding that’s a talent not skill, skill is something u work on to get better talent is something that’s given to u
Lies lol ! Defense is 100% a skill
No it’s not gang there’s a reason y people are elite defenders in their athletic prime.defense is always a reflection of athleticism that’s not a skill that’s y they say if u have long arms, big hands and ur athletic u have potential to be a great defender that’s god given
I disagree because elite defense and rebounding require technique . Athleticism definitely helps, but if you take bad angles, don't use your body correctly, or don't study tendencies you'll never be elite.

Nash would probably be one of top if you're using those basic stats. Nash was a 50 40 90 player. Crazy dimes and he was unpluckable.

My top 3 skilled players at the 5 positions (not in any particular order)
PG: Isiah “Zeke” Thomas, John Stockton, Stephen Curry
SG: Kobe, MJ, Gervin
SF: Bird, Dr. J, Baylor, (Pippen)
PF: Duncan, McHale, Barkley
C: Kareem, Wilt, Hakeem
I know I’ll catch heat for not saying Magic, so I’ll say that Magic is the #1 PG of all time because he’s a 6’9” unicorn.
Top-2:
Isaiah Thomas (the current Sun), Tim Hardaway sr.
JR Smith, CJ McCollum
Peja Stojakovic, Joe Johnson
Terry Cummings, Chris Webber
Bam Adebayo, Boogie.
I’m with Gil on this one. Kyrie is a great player. Is he better than KD? I don’t think so. Magic is the most skilled player in my lifetime. He played center in a Championship game and scored 42 points. To me that makes him the most versatile player in NBA History. Point Forward was coined for Magic.
Im old enough to have watched mj kobe bron n ky. Kyrie is the most gifted skillful player to have graced the court its like eminem's cadence on a beat you just cant fuck with it

Kobe extremely skilled yes. Kyrie is above Kobe. His dribbling. Body control. Finishing at the rim. Shot creation. All that shit is unmatched
Yeah Kobe is the most skilled. He worked on his skills relentlessly. Id go 1) Kobe 2) Kawhi 3) MJ 4) Allen Iverson 5)Magix 6)Bird 7)Kyrie 8) Tracy McGrady 9) Olajuwon 10) Luka
If we’re including passing, I’m gonna go for Kyrie. Skills should not only be boxed in to “scoring”
B. Jennings is right, Kyrie is 4 sure the most offensively skilled player I've ever seen bro.. Easily really
He is just visually looks good because nowadays we love highlights, but of we put in context if that skill result to winning, efficiency, making your temmates better with you, and facilitating . larry Bird is far dominant skillwise over kyrie, Larry can do ISO as much deadly if not dealier than kyrie , he doesnt look sexy but he will kill you every single possesion siince larry is epitome of skill because he is not athletic
You only seen this weak as era
@@joeymanny I think considering it that way is lowering the bar, and makes it a different conversation.. When we talk offensive skills we’re legit talking about handle, finishing, & shooting ability.. All of the top of that list guys can do those things (No Larry lol), but Kyrie has mastered ball handling & finishing in an unforeseen unique way.. He can do everything they can, but they can’t do some of his sht.. & It is aesthetically pleasing… because the sht be like perfectly done lol.
He’s not more skill than curry and Jordan on offensive
@@userzo30 Seth can only shoot three's he to small tho play in the paint.
Paul Pierce, Tracy McGrady, Dirk, Melo were all deadly offensive players. Pull ups, dribbling, 3s, post ups, foot works, play making, mid range..
Not just 3.
It's Kobe for me!!... To me he's da most skill
Perfect explanation and explaining of skill players by gil CANT SAY IT NO BETTER 💪🏾💯
It's been a while since I agreed with Gil (he's been on some horrible takes lately)..
Even if you talk about "offensive skills":
- Ability to create a shot & counter -> I'd say maybe Kyrie, but I'd take Steph over him
- Ability to get a bucket -> KD
- Dribbling & getting to the rim -> Wade/ MJ / Kobe / Kyrie / Bron
There's so many levels to this..
If you talk overall skills: ability to shoot from at least 5 levels, ball-handling, counters, passing, reading defensives, basketball IQ, defending... it's hard to argue over KD, Kobe as most skilled players ever
This was a great discussion. Gil made some great points about skill set and how it’s defined these days.
