It is *very* unfortunate that this comes out just at the time fans finally decompile the Android versions of Sonic 1 and 2 and make them natively playable on PC and Vita.
Hmm, I'd say the mobile port is still the better all around version, with its remastered music, 3D 60FPS Special Stages, and Hidden Palace. But this is certainly a good step.

Oh and forgot to mention:in mobile port, sonic doesn't get "teleported" to higher paths even if your jump is missing like 2 pixels (probably a bug in the original, but it's present in mania so I don't know why they cut it in the mobile release) since this uses the original game as source, now you can. This really bothered me in the mobile release This is definitely the best version.
@@Charizardslash it is technically from the magamix romhack instead of the sonic 3 air mod, and I remember that heyjoeway asked for a standalone moveset mod for the megamix mania (so they could be played on the vanilla levels.) That's probably why it's here as well. (If that's the case, maybe the flight cancel is also here) Forgot to mention, apparently in this romhack you can use super sonic/ invincibility along with the elemental shields, but he may have removed it because the video didn't show it.(or the dude just forgot to talk about it) Also heyjoeway made a poll about what he should add next in the next release, and hidden palace zone is the most requested thing, and the second is special stages. Almost every complaint in the original comment will soon(?) disappear.

I hope this Sonic 2 port adds the Zone to Zone cutscenes that Sonic 3 & Knuckles had where it shows you how you transitioned to the next Zone after completing the second Act.
I will try sonic 2CC even after the decomp and yes some people will like s2cc more than the decomp and others like the decomp more than s2cc but i think you should give BOTH a try and if you like one of them use them forever.
This is the best way to play Sonic 2...on PC without Bluestacks. I still say the mobile ports with Bluestacks is the best way to play it simply because of all the added polish and new/restored content.

It's great to find out there's a community cut of Sonic 2 being worked on however I wouldn't say it's the definitive version yet. It sounds like the audio is slower too. In my opinion a definitive version of Sonic 2 needs: - Widescreen - Expanded moveset for Sonic, Tails can fly - Remixed music for act 2's (a personal preference) - Hidden Palace Zone at minimum, ALL scrapped Zones reimplemented with good level design to truly shine - Saving - Better special stage performance
Seems like the gameplay is recorded at 30fps, you can till by some sprites that don't render correctly at half the framerate like the shields or the barries for wing fortress boss.
SONIK 2 WUZ HERE But seriously, though this was overshadowed by the release of the Taxman/Stealth ports, this is still a really cool technical achievement and its implementation could probably prove useful for bringing other Genesis games to the wide screen. So still, great work, HeyJoeWay!
This port looks very promising but I can't help but be bothered by the lower pitched audio as if the game was being played on a PAL Mega Drive or even Mega Collection. Not sure if it's the emulator having its region flag set to Europe or some outside element that I'm not aware of but I hope this audio querk doesn't carry over into the public release as it's oddly distracting to hear the lower pitch after being used to the NTSC version for the longest time. This might be nitpicky but at the same time I didn't expect this to show up considering the Genesis Plus GX backend for this usually has pretty good sound emulation.
The Special Stage still Being 2D is a deal Breaker tô me, If it's still emulation and not an actual remaster (what Sonic 3 Angel Island Revisited is) i'm sticking with the mobile Version(that IS not a Port) and If i want to play on a Big Screen BlueStacks It is

@@TheExFatal From what I heard the audio was butchered quite a bit. I’m not too sure on all the details though. I do know the mobile is superior. There’s a vita port of the mobile port now. Sonic 1/2/CD mobile are decompiled.

Dust Hill was just the beta name of Mystic Cave. Genocide City was (probably) transferred over to be Metropolis Act 3. 3D Special Stages may be coming. Wood Zone might have been Metropolis 3 as well..?

I've been playing this today, and jt's very good! But I noticed that the special stages use the Sonic & Tails ring quota even while playing as solo Sonic. This makes some of the stages practically impossible (like special stage 5, for instance - I can usually beat it first try, but here I can't even come close, because Sonic's hitbox alone doesn't seem to be big enough to get the amount of rings that Sonic and Tails are supposed to get together). Does anyone know if there's a way to contact the developers about this? I'm assuming it's not intentional, so I'd like to let them know about it so they can patch it out
I wouldn't call BlueStacks impractical, besides, the mobile version controls and looks perfect as is, I get the want to play on a monitor, but that is literally the only thing you're sacrificing. Even that can be fixed given you have some way of mirroring your device. Though the other additions are quite nice, and a fun project to follow to the future! Some of the visual changes and camera options go a long way towards a unique experience.

Does anyone know the current state of the project? Even with the reverse engineering of the Retro Engine Sonic 1&2, there are still a few bugs that the are inherently screwed due to the game being on a different engine. One that comes to mind would be the spikes in Metropolis Zone when the spike should only *just* miss when you bounce up from a yellow spring. In the Mobile Port, the spikes have a slighy larger hitbox, which leads to getting hit and falling back down.
I tried playing this, but it seems its searching for the rom on the steam release in the C:/ directory, though steam is installed my D:/ directory. any solutions? I tried changing the .json but it didn't work that well
Investigate the original json, I believe it used double slashes ( // ) for each path. So you may also need to do that in replacement with your directory.
I'm mainly interested in the multiplayer on all levels, because we constantly play the original multiplayer with my niece, and having more levels for it would be nice. Wide screen doesn't interest me much.
I don't see how it's any less practical to run android emulator than it is to run this through mega drive emulator but thanks for bringing this version to my attention

It definitely took much more effort though considering mobile version was 16:9 game from the start while this was built off from a 4:3 rom.

The project is cancelled, because the decompilation of Sonic 1 and 2 on PC, and Sonic 2 Absolute, made this project basically outdated.

God dammit, someone finished a sonic 2 pc port before I've even started my PC remake.
Is there a Mac OS version for this?
Sonic 2 is one of my favorite sonic games. I still think it's a shame that they never released the mobile port on steam
I'm mainly interested in the multiplayer on all levels, because we constantly play the original multiplayer with my niece, and having more levels for it would be nice. Wide screen doesn't interest me much.
I hope Team Forever implement the same smooth act transitions.

I don't see how it's any less practical to run android emulator than it is to run this through mega drive emulator but thanks for bringing this version to my attention
Have you installed Bluestacks before?
Also, this is it's own thing. You don't need to launch an emulator. The game launches itself.

Thing is i don't have a steam either, if I had to learn how to launch that i would equate that to learning how to lunch an emulator but I don't have experience with either so you might have point XD
