Hey Builders! The adventure will continue with episode 2 out next week! BUT I could use your ideas about how I can add to the canoe and make it even more wacky, or use it in a wacky way. Any ideas? 🛶
Jacob, your mixture of buoyant over-confidence and gentle self-deprecation together with wonderful storytelling and excellent filming always deliver. I also love how you get in over your head and do it all anyway. Some people are built like this.
I have now seen it all: Jacob hair drying a canoe; Jacob cooking dinner on his disassembled, slightly damp, canoe (actually, you are preparing dinner on the canoe - the dinner is being cooked on the stove top); Jacob embarrassingly slapping his own butt with a butt strap; and Jacob asking Jacob if he has an itch "down there"...I don't think I will ever be the same. Thanks for your wonderful self-effacing humor - you are the tonic this world needs to maintain its relative sanity. Your video production quality remains excellent, and like a fine wine, gets better with age. Cheers from your second-biggest fan - that's because Ian who lives just down the way is at least half a stone heavier than I am... "I am continuing my naivete when it comes to timekeeping, because whilst the glue is curing, I've decided I need a paddle." Words I have been hoping to hear for years, and from a man who is justifiably pleased and enthralled with his homemade paddle. "My boat floats; the paddle paddles!" Thank you, Jacob, for being your brilliant self!
Wow Mark another incredibly lovely message! Although i'm surprised you used the word "sanity" in relation to me 😅 I hope you are well! p.s. Say hi to Ian from me 😅
When I saw few months ago the video about you having a cancer I thought in myself no way "is this guy going to die" my father first showed me your video a year ago and I was stunned about your surviving skills hahah, I am glad that you are alive living your best life man 👍😀💪
What a joy to watch. I was a bit sad when you sold the houseboat; I loved all the work you put into it. This had those vibes, plus Muddy! So happy to see you thriving after your cancer. Can't wait for episode 2.
So glad you’re back with another wacky adventure! I’m sure you would have finished the build in 4 or 5 (well, maybe 7), days had the weather cooperated. Muddy must give you so my energy!❤
Brilliant canoe build Jacob. Love your videos. Reminds me of a book I read as a teenager called Rascal, where a kid and his grandfather built a canoe together. Since then I have built a variety of different boats. I might try a canoe like yours next.
Great work!!! Watched all episodes then went back to view older videos, where did you get the plans from for this design would love to do a similar trip down south!
Plans for this canoe are available online, it's called the "quick canoe 155". And if you are more competent than me (or can make things inside) then I would say it really is quick!
I love your videos Jacob, full of humour, insanity yet always success in whatever you do. You must either keep your wife amused or drive her nuts :) but I’m sure I speak for all your followers you bring us such joy thank you x
Hi just subbed after watching the new house purchase. I think I’d get on really well with you, sounds like a similar path trodden although I’m now 61yo and past it. I bought and rebuilt a large wooden boat in my teens and twenties then several boats and houses later I now have another big boat and an old cottage in Cornwall to do up. Not quite as bad as yours mind you but I’m loving the videos. Good job on the canoe for a first time using epoxy etc. Onwards to your next video. Andy UK
You are so hilarious. 😂 Worried about smacking your tail but you always talk about your ball. 👀 Love your cottage, love Muddy beautiful pup; he was like here dad toss this. The canoe looks amazing and so does the adventure. Speaking of your balls thank for speaking out on this so that men everywhere can know it's ok and they aren't the only one. I'm so tired of this secret, taboo, don't talk about things culture. Safe travels ❤
Hi Jacob, a quick question if I may… I’m going to build one of these canoes with the intention of exploring the local canal with the family, it won’t see any white water or rough usage…. Just wondering if you used special marine ply or did you use exterior grade ply which is obviously cheaper only asking as I doubt mine will see much use, it will be my first build and I’m on a budget so I don’t feel like buying top shelf materials if there’s a risk I’m going to muck it up 😅, the idea being if this build turns out ok I would build a slightly more complex design with top grade materials further down the line. Regards Tom
Thats a great question, from memory I did get marine ply (But im not 100% sure). If you are going to get exterior grade I would think about epoxying the whole thing (I never did that in the end). Should last longer and be stronger!
@ Thankyou very much for the speedy reply 😁… I am in two minds at this stage as to what to do, I have read online that quite a few have used exterior ply to good effect, if I did I would definitely epoxy the whole exterior or I’ve been toying with the idea of glassing the whole exterior with a single layer of cloth as opposed to just taping the seems? A minefield of possibilities 🤣… i think you should embark on another canoe adventure as this was an excellent series. All the best 😎👍👍

Very proud wife!! 😍 how you come up with these ideas I still don’t know, but you did it 🎉🎉

great job Jacob! Your dog looks uncannily like my ESS Jed, who's passed...thank you for the memories; he was a nutter too!
A lovable Nutter!

This is beautiful.
My favorit one balled man upload again !
Have you read The Survival of the Birchbark Canoe by John McPhee? A good read
I have not but i'll check it out! Thanks for the recommendation
Interesting. I'm curious as to how it goes after to start the journey down the river. I'm sure that however it goes, you will have fun.
Was it just me that was waiting for you to realise you could not get the canoe out of the back yard 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😅 I should have filmed it because it was not that easy
