It's not always food. I have racing pigeon (I don't race them ) and they go out when sun comes out and they're full of foods when they're back. A safe home is enough for them they're really loyal to you.

Pigeons do have a fascinating ability to navigate and fly back to their home, not only because they have been bred to do so, but most racing pigeons are taken away from their lofts while they have mates or chicks. This urge to get back to their families is what pushes the pigeons to fly so fast. Most pigeon races occur over vast distances and treacherous territories; pigeons are raced across deserts, lakes, and suburban areas where the birds often are killed by hunters, predators, or simply die of exhaustion. The few birds which survive and "win" the race are bred with other, winning birds over and over again, further inbreeding the population Sure, pigeons can be "so expensive" fir their speed, but how can people pride over breeding thousands of birds in order to take them away from their loved ones and drop them hundreds of miles away in order to bet on their lives? Pigeons are intelligent, social birds which feel love, hope and pain, and to me, this entire "sport" is just unnecessarily barbaric and cruel to pigeons.

Yes breeding pigeons is a high profit industry for some. How many pigeons out there were bred and abandoned to the streets just to get the one racing pigeon who is worth a small fortune to breeders? Then people blame pigeons for urban overpopulation because they don't know what these breeders are up to! This industry must be shut down.
In the time of "CORONAVIRUS WORLD WAR - 3" in 2020 when your own life is at the hands of a invisible pandemic it's cinema and documentaries that breaks all barriers and provides solace and entertainment in the confines of a house. As a lifelong sports enthusiast and a silver jubilee pathological gambler on horse racing decided to understand the sport of pigeon racing.Picked the right documentary and found this video extremely educating to a novice from Mumbai in India where pigeon racing does exist in a few city's. Surprised to know that China is the country that now monopolizes "Pigeon Racing" purchasing the costliest racing "Armando " for 1.4 million U.S dollars. Thought only race horse cost that amount of money. Surprised that the Royal Family of England is also actively involved in "Pigeon Racing" as i was under the impression they only raced horses. One of my favourite boxer's Mike.Tyson is a pigeon fancier and If "PIGEON RACING" existed in Mumbai i would definitely have been a active player in this bird sport. Ahoy !
man the price of these birds make me realize why the ideal annual income in terms of how it relates to happiness is thought to be around 75 to 100 thousand dollars a year. I mean how boring and uninspired must your life be in order to spend over a million dollars on a bird? The need for constant insane and frankly irrational purchases certainly lend credence to the fact that money doesn't buy happiness. "yeah im sort of bored today i think im gonna buy a million dollar bird"
Think of it like how the beggar on the street looks at you and thinks "wow so rich, he can afford to spend 100s on a meal!". Well, you can. And that's why you're doing.. similar to the millionaire , but in a different level. Stop being so salty
It's cruel. Many birds never make it home. They die from starvation, dehydration or are killed by predators. How can you call it a sport? Visit a site called Palomacy to see how many of these pigeons (sick and injured) are available for adoption because of their irresponsible owners.
Ahhh poor you, what are you some kind of a liberal left-wing activist, these racing pigeons have been selectively bred for flying long distances they are trained and conditioned just like athletes, pigeon fanciers who race them have experience in checking the quality and condition of the birds before allowing them to be shipped off to a race I'm sure there are a few non-caring ones that would ship an unconditioned bird to a race, these birds have excellent homing instinct, these racing pigeons can come home from hundreds of miles and some not even be tired out like they only flew one lap around the coop. So don't cry about it, these pigeons love to fly it's in their bloodline.
The destination is always their home loft. I believe they now use an RFID chip attached to the leg of the bird, and a sensor is placed at the entrance to the home loft of everybody in the race. It calculates the time from release, to the time it took to make it home. Then they take the distance and divide it by the time. If Joe's bird flew 250 miles in 3 hours 45 minutes, his pigeon averaged 66.67 MPH. Mike's bird was released from the same spot, but his loft is 280 miles from the release point, and his bird took 2 hours 50 minutes, his bird was faster because it averaged 73 MPH. And so, Mike wins the race. Better average speed.
If you want to send a message with a pigeon, how the pigeon is supposed to know where he has to deliver the message? It's not like he is gonna read the recipient's name...
pigeons are trained to 'fly home' - so to have a messenger pigeon you'd have one of them from the area you want to send the message to and they will fly back to their coop (and relay the message)
Nah their everywhere and it's growing in china Pigeons Used to be popular in Philippines Like every street has pigeons And sometimes we brag about the pigeons we bred Like who ever bred the best pigeon Could sell it For 10 x the price
Too bad this sport causes much pain and suffering for many of the birds. Some are very much loved and taken care of but many get lost or hurt along the way and are abandoned when they loose.

Ahoy !
3:26 did that guy just scan that birds ass like a barcode? Lmao
I remember the cartoon Catch the pigeon with Muttly and his laughing
Wao super good job sir 👍💝
man the price of these birds make me realize why the ideal annual income in terms of how it relates to happiness is thought to be around 75 to 100 thousand dollars a year. I mean how boring and uninspired must your life be in order to spend over a million dollars on a bird? The need for constant insane and frankly irrational purchases certainly lend credence to the fact that money doesn't buy happiness. "yeah im sort of bored today i think im gonna buy a million dollar bird"
Dan Brewer dan images u made 200 million in a year and u really like the birds and u spend 1million on it
Think of it like how the beggar on the street looks at you and thinks "wow so rich, he can afford to spend 100s on a meal!". Well, you can. And that's why you're doing.. similar to the millionaire , but in a different level.
Stop being so salty
Thank you for specifying “expensive” for I am a pigeon
You are a chicken
NICE VIDEO ...NICE PIGEONS JUST LIKE MINE 😄😄😄
@@michaeleverett2650 Imagine defending animal abuse. Eww.
Lol my brothers $2000 Austrian pigeon almost got away because i left a door open
Wow! Very Expensive bird. Amanda!
Nice looking ♠️
Cool Facts....love from INDIA💓❤️
When someone buys expensive racing pidgeons, are these birds kept in the loft indefinitely, and bred from
Is there any most popular Homer's sales from Belgium or any popular Homer's to get in international like India?
How do they know where the destination is?
Nice content
I had them as a kid. Would love to have them now at 78 years old.
Aliens have coded their brains with in-built GPS
You guys should make a video of gamefowls
Imagine if everyone switched to pigeon messages instead of text messages.. 🤯
It would be so noisy around neighborhoods 😂😂
Imagine if bird of prey randomly hunt this pigeon in the sky..
happens all the time
don't you just hate it when people say "persons" instead of "people"
Great job
It was so expensive TH-cam crashed when I clicked the video.
True story.
Pigeon: sale for 1.3 million dollars
Me: hold me my net!!
In India raiser of them are called *shookdar* and tournament are called *Davadi*
I tought racing pigeons was only a thing in my country (Pakistan), and people have been racing pigeons here since the mughal era.
I neeed to go the Park right now.
Kidnapping & hold pigeon for ransom. Now I've seen everything.
Was looking for this comment. I wonder how the hostage negotiations went! 🤣
I watched this video with my pet pigeon on my shoulder. She also finds this video interesting!
