Love the rust and the faded bag and patina on the bar tape. You can tell that the bike gets used. It's a happy bike, not relegated to a barn gathering dust. Whenever I see a bike that I haven't ridden in a while I can sense its sadness and I feel compelled to take it for a spin.
So good! You're a wild man with that front tire clearance. The roadini's have my favorite headbadge of all the rivs. Been excited to see more of this bike since it started showing up in the background of the blog
I almost pulled the trigger on this frame when the new Ultraviolet colorway came out. Too bad I already have a low trail French style rando bike that I cannot really part with. Nice build!
Fun video. I have the same frameset but it's a 2020 650b model. I've run 48s in it. A taught fit with tektro r559s. I hadn't even thought of attaching canti-posts. Good on ya!
thanks! I haven't had to use that trick on any other bike, but a JIS 103 taper wasn't short enough for these and the 102 ISO taper was just the ticket --- sucking them in that much more. works like a charm for 3 years plus of riding now
Probably my favorite video you've made. Side note: currently flexing 4sheets in rear 6sheets n front, on my 90s Raleigh with 700x28😭 In my experience ultegra 6800 dual pivot calipers make your frame the deciding factor as they are not impeding vertical tie clearance
This is the bike I want Riv to make. A canti post road bike for fat tyres. No one else does a long bike like Riv and I want something a bit lighter than my Sam.
Wondering about mounting cava race 39s or rose 42s on mavic open pro rims, shops and the internet seem to caution anything larger than 32s on these rims but I'm guessing thes sups have a similar inside diameter of 15mm or so? Wonderful bike as usual. Thanks for any feedback.
My first video from you and I noticed right off the bat, cool demeanor looks being great shape with some almost weightlifter quads, saddle sniffer this guy is No poser! I do have a question for anybody that can answer though my friend was given this really nice custom beach cruiser that had a bell gel seat on it. I told him I'd go over there and look over it because I like to fix bikes. I took that gel seat off and boom of Brooks saddle but it had a crack in it? Long story long, is there a way to get it repaired? I told him what it was worth if he got it fixed he's not interested so I could probably get it for free.
yes, I listed the artist in the beginning of the episode. its too foreign for me to remember, and the song title is about a paragraph long. thats how you know its good!
Enjoying your videos Ron. Just a friendly tip, for your panning and close up shots, record in a higher frame rate (60fps) and then slow down in post for some ultra kerrygold-tier buttery smoothness. Just make sure to adjust your speed to 1/120 vs the 1/50 while shooting standard 24 fps. Also you should give us a day in the life vid at some point. Cheerio from dreary new england.
Ron! How would you describe the diff between the roadini and romanceur ? Geo are very similar. Wheel base is the same on some sizes and chainstay pretty close . Diff 700c vs 650 and trail. Which bike would you say is best for what type of riding?
hello, Ronaldinho. i know this is months old. i'm wondering how you got the Paul barrel adjusters to interface with your levers? did you modify they lever in any way? or did they play together easily? i recently bought a different 600 lever model and i have some paul levers. tested one of the Paul adjusters and couldn't figure it out. perhaps i'm too much of a noob
yes it is. every one that I've tried to shift over 32t really ends up struggling. it works well in this application though. certainly one of the prettiest things Shimano ever made
As always, a sweet build…but tire clearance has burned me. 38’s on a 24IRD rim on a bike recommended for 35 + Michigan Gravel, which probably was gravel before the ice age but is now known as sand in other circles + rain = wall art in my case. Rondini’s steel stays and fork can probably handle a little rub Btw, Mars robusto’s are showing how robust they are…they haven’t let me down in the WI North Woods…chunky gravel forest roads, ATV trails which are really just grassy areas where there are no trees growing, single track and even all of the above with some sand mixed in…flawless
What kind of material have you found is best for shorts? I want to stop riding in lycra. What type of materials seem to work best? The cut off denim jeans for shorts seem a bit stiff to ride in or maybe I am trying to use the wrong type of jeans. I have been trying merino boxers. I just started using a brooks B17.
hello there --- yeah true denim looks the best, but like anything cotton and without built in stretch, it will dry rot and tear when using long term on the bike. I like my clothes to be very form fitting, so even more so when that's the case. a few of my friends just cut up stretchy women's jeans -- in the beginning of this video I am wearing those stretchy shorts by Ripton that are kinda sports specific. they sent them to me, and I like them well enough for riding -- the stretch is really nice, and they look pretty good imo.
@@ultraromance Thanks for this info mate. I'll do this. I am enjoying the freedom of riding with a frame bag and no lycra but had still been clinging to the chamois vibe. Our family including our 3 teenagers love riding and all have shimergo setups on their gravel steelies. Loving your vids. My wife still cracks up over your tyre video. Wilto riders from Aus.
Another fine video. I owned a Homer Hilsen for a while. I like Rivendale and I hope they're around forever, but I found the Homer overbuilt for me. Too stiff. Took a bit of energy to make it get up and go. Looks like the Roadini or Rodeo are better suited for lighter riders. Anyway, nice video.
Best movie on TH-cam!! Love it entirely ❤ Ive a couple self build steel bikes from the 70s but this bike....just a dream. What type of Cantlivers are those? Many greetings from Ireland
Can you make your content accessible by having actual closed captioning please? I'm Profoundly Deaf and the auto captioning sadly make it harder to watch.
Just stay on top of your true, don't ride in the wet, and stop the moment you sproink a spoke and you''ll be fine imo. If it ain't carbon, whatever. So long as it spins. Hell, my carbon XC bike gets less than the recommended 3mm on each side and so far my bike hasn't exploded. Great vid and soundtrack as per usual.
Love the rust and the faded bag and patina on the bar tape. You can tell that the bike gets used. It's a happy bike, not relegated to a barn gathering dust. Whenever I see a bike that I haven't ridden in a while I can sense its sadness and I feel compelled to take it for a spin.
You’ve got the coolest bikes. I wish I lived in a rural place, sometimes.
This dude is a god among men. Mere mortals like us can only aspire to approach this greatness.
shhhh he'll hear you.
I would go on a ride with him if the possibility came up!
What a lovely ride. You live in a beautiful area and the homestead looks cool too. Keep sending us these iconic videos!
Come for the bikes, stay for the music. 🤘🏻
Another great video Ronnie! Your mastery of videography skills and special effects is most impressive!
The bell makes it. You're the member of an elite group of us bell lovers.
Loving the more frequent vids!
Just a really beautifull bike!!
Seeing you cycle through the woods to this BM tune is inspiring. God, you are a beautiful human with an amazing bike taste!
You sir, are living the dream. Great bike, great video. Thank you
It's always so good when you post, Ronnie. Can't deny that saddle sniffing bike package is sublime......
Wonderfully delightful video. Love your art Ron. 😍

excellent tip! will be eager to try that --- a lot of this footage made me motion sick while editing lol
I enjoy the artistry of your vids, bikes and lifestyle. This comment section is great too. Lovely people
Thanks for showing another one of your unique builds
authentic brilliance high bars on a galactic trapeze
❤❤❤ such a beautiful view and nice ride. 🤘🏼
Wow a pure and very nice bike. You have a nice style.
This might be the best music in any bike video. Lurve it.
I almost pulled the trigger on this frame when the new Ultraviolet colorway came out. Too bad I already have a low trail French style rando bike that I cannot really part with. Nice build!
That's some mighty quality content.
Lovely as always. Been trying to hunt this Fluisteraars song down all night... I think its been slowed down to Nutmeg country bpm.
Rode my bike this morning, up over hill and dale.. Stopped and picked two containers of berries. Very “Ultraromancey” Living the dream..

those 650b ones are great---enjoy!
That bb wizardry blew my mind!🤯
Great music choice btw!👌

stumbled on your videos today and wondered why the scenery looked so familiar.. turns out i m from the next town over...sheesh
Respects to Sheldon and his legacy
Another great vid intergalactica 🇬🇧👍🏼
Great video!
The bike check I’ve been waiting for ✨✨🌹✨✨

I've got those levers on a 70's Austro Daimler I found free and cleaned up, they're really nice.
Very lovely!
This is the bike I want Riv to make. A canti post road bike for fat tyres. No one else does a long bike like Riv and I want something a bit lighter than my Sam.
my exact thoughts with this one. I think the current model with canti studs added would be a dream
funny enough they used to. I have a rivendell "long and low", 700x38 with cantilevers. I think their creation of the tektro r559 stomped that out
Just put some conditioner on my brooksy!!! Smells real nice :) also love the tunes - super vibes!

When is the video of the Tour Easy at 0:36 coming out? Is Ronnie about to make long-wheelbase recumbents the new hotness?
its my long game for sure! need to hedge my bets for retirement
What would be a better option for the Portola bars these days? Not many flared drop options in 26 clamp.
My first video from you and I noticed right off the bat, cool demeanor looks being great shape with some almost weightlifter quads, saddle sniffer

Always a pleasure to watch and escape 3d if only for a few minutes.
These need to be twice a week though.... ..
The Sublime Rondini -- Get yours today!

Riding a bike in sandals! Ive still got PTSD from a painful flip flop related accident on a bike when I was 8 or 9 😮
Fun vid! Hopefully, you had a friend to help you set up all of these wonderful riding shots.
just me and my mini tripod on this one --- thanks!

Where is the Canyondale I am here for?
yes thats smells so good............pedals? please!
those are crank bros stamp 2 pedals /// not the best looking, but they work best for my size 14 feet
spent 5 minutes trying to find the Fluisteraars song called "Too Long to Write Out" bamboozled by Ron again
lol, sorry about that! i thought that might happen actually
lol no worries Ron I found the song and got to explore the Fluisteraars discography while I was at it. @@ultraromance
Where can I find those shorts?
lightning strike in the nutmeg state
Suntour Cyclone front shift lever.... hit my spot!
The music is maybe my favorite part of your videos! Do you have any playlists you'd share?
Beautiful images.. may I ask what camera you recorded this with Ron?
thanks! I used a fuji x-t4 with a fujinon 56 f1.2 and one of their color presets.

Absolutely sp(l)iffing!
About time the dirt drops made a reappearance
I’ve got a roadini frameset that I haven’t gotten around to building up. Would it be bad to go Canti already 😅
would recommend, especially if its the newest one. big clearances there.
Excellent intro track
Rim brakes+700C fat tires are the gods setup
What do you think of a corner bar with mtb shifters
I had a corner bar on one of my bikes in Arizona and loved it with a mtb shifter. put my hands at a nice angle
Woah, trouser snake 🐍
"Saddle sniff" indeed!
