"Officially, the Catholic Church is saying that any woman that says she has a vocation to priesthood is somehow almost evil. The way that Pope Francis has spoken about women seeking ordination or expressing a question about why women can't be deacons, why women can't be priests, they are treated horrifically. He has said very recently, just last week, that any talk of women's equal participation in the leadership of the church is women trying to be men. And it's so insulting to keep on saying that the only valid role that will get the approval of this pope is to be nurturing, is to be a mother, well you can be nurturing and mothering and be a priest. It doesn't discount."

"Even Pope Francis is saying ‘enough is enough. We don't want women taking male roles,’ as if there is such a thing. So it is very harmful. And he is putting a spiritual stamp of approval on sexism. What he says is sexist and he's saying it in the body of a pope. The head of the Catholic Church with 1.4 billion Catholics around the world. And beyond that, everyone reads the pope's words. His interviews are published in every major newspaper around the world, read by millions and millions of people. It is so irresponsible and dangerous for him to constantly criticise, belittle, dismiss and demonise women who are just saying stop lying, stop hiding and stop trying to relegate us to second class citizenship."

    10. SOUNDBITE (English) Kate McElwee, Executive director Women’s Ordination Conference:
"When I speak to women and our members around the world, they'll say 'the Catholic Church left me, I didn't leave the church'. So there is a distance for sure, but I think for so many generations, women have faced a closed door when they come to the church. And so, certainly women are finding other creative ways to use their ministries. And there is a gap growing between the realities of modern women and the demands of today and what the church is able to offer them. So I think there's a great opportunity at the Synod to really encourage greater participation in women. I think the church has a responsibility to act at this moment."

    STORYLINE:
Women’s ordination supporters gathered in the Basilica of Saint Praxedis in Rome to hold a prayer vigil ahead of the Synod starting Wednesday.
Advocates for women's right to priesthood have been demanding for years equal roles in the church. They are hoping this Synod will make the role of women in church governance a central theme.
"There is a gap growing between the realities of modern women and the demands of today and what the church is able to offer them," Executive director Women’s Ordination Conference, Kate McElwee, said.
"I think there's a great opportunity at the Synod to really encourage greater participation in women, the church has a responsibility to act at this moment," she added.

We have countless female saints in the Catholic Church. Good holy women who served Christ and His Church by doing His Most Holy Will. Never, ever did any one of them aspire to be ordained priests. That tells us everything we need to know. Women can’t be Priests.

What a waste of time. A vocation to the priesthood for women? Utter rubbish.

The invocation at the beginning of the prayer shows they aren't with the mind of the Church. If they can't do something as simple as sign themselves in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost without qualifying it with their own interests and agendas, they clearly are not on the right side of the issue. Pray for them to overcome their pride and submit Holy Mother to Church.

The Church must remember the tragedy of Adam falling into sin because of Eva's temptation. Likewise today, Satan through these women tries to tempt the bishops, to fall them into the trap of unforgivable error.

The role of the Priest is as a Father therefore for women to be priest is like them teying to be fathers. They can not. Men and woman are different, saying woman can not be fathers is not sexist.

All religions will have minor sects that want to push for some schismatic thing. These ladies cannot do anything to change the perennial teaching however. You can comfortably ignore this and move on.

Why not just become Lutheran, episcopalian, or anglican ? So simple - just join a different denomination. Seems these folks just want to be upset about something instead of solving the issue for themselves by joining a different denomination.

It’s not sexist in any way. Women can’t be priests because priests are fathers, and women are not fathers. Women are raised to the highest position of the Church through Our Lady (Mary) who is sinless. Even St. Joseph is second to her in sanctity. Women are also Doctors of the Church which is the highest level of sanctity and person can achieve. There is zero closed door in the Church, all doors are open.
