Method is very interesting. Visual presentations are more effective in learning
One small addition is required. When the bottom steel is insufficient to take the load, we need to add reinforcement bars at bottom also. This presentation may be extended to show, how add these bars..

I know it's quite a long time but only now I am facing same thing. I got old house with 10cm thick slabs. Grid is 18x24cm with rebars 10mm and 8mm in diameter (but old smooth rebars) Slabs are ~4,5m x 4,3m . It is "bouncy" and does have small cracks in corners and along walls on top part (it doesn't have any cracks at the bottom though). I'm wondering if embedding rcc beams inside those slabs and adding top reinforcement (kind of one way since it will make it like e.g. 3 parts 1,5m x 4,3m) with another 5cm of concrete to coat it is viable option. RCC beams embedded inside slab would act roughly the same way as H-type steel beams under it and top reinforcement (15x25cm grid 10mm in diameter rebars anchored with epoxy both to walls and old concrete slab) taking stress near walls and beams (and since they'd be so close to each other top reinforcement would take most of the stress along with beams, offloading bottom reinforcement). That should make the structure more rigid and able to handle both increased dead weight of new concrete layer (plus reinforcement) and also deflect less under workload. Maybe that's just my crazy way of thinking but since ppl tend to strengthen slabs with either CFRP or steel beams I guess (nearly) the same thing can be achieved by reinforced concrete beams embedded and/or overlapping concrete slab.
