    Here in Puerto Rico we have that problem the weather conditions created and yes technical procedures. When you don’t have a lot money this the way to go. I live this kid he is a very hard working God bless him give a lot health , yes he should wear safety glasses , mask and gloves.

    I want to clarify an important point that was the problem with this roof That's when it was built The concrete was not left long enough to dry The wooden panels beneath the concrete were removed after only a few days, creating a small crack between the upper and lower concrete layers, which increased over time.
    But the building owner did not have enough money to remove the roof and rebuild it at this time because that would cost him a lot, so I repaired it in this state, and then the building owner would demolish it and rebuild it again. But i say the best and final solution for this roof is to remove it and rebuild it again.

      Sorry the roof is weakened due to the bad concrete job. But plastering over the problem only hides the problem. It does not fix it much. That layer of rebar is almost useless, probably no longer bonded to the concrete. But I'm just an architect in California, USA. Due to earthquakes and lawsuits we take concrete reinforcement seriously.

    You just forgot to clean the rust with a wire brush and treat the steel with an anti-rust product. Mortar (cement plus sand) is not resistant and does not solve the problem. The correct solution is a polymeric mortar (grout) that has greater resistance than concrete, in addition to correct adhesion.

      Plaster was placed in the final layer, while the other layers were sand, cement and small aggregate + other materials But I didn't show that in the video

    Your technique for repairing a concrete ceiling is the most comprehensive I've seen. my repair area thankfully is tiny by comparison: but I will use a rust neutraliser both poured from above into any cracks I find and sprayed from below, I don't know what good it will do?. anyway much learned thank you. And as others have asked: "please wear lung protection equipment" you're young fit and bright :) your personal well-being also deserves the best attention?. 👏👏🤗

    Good work. But people should know that the strength and durability of this repaired roof will never like original. Strength may reduce as low as 50% depending on the corrosion of the rusted steel. Since there is already some factor of safety taken during construction it may last quite long. The function of steel bars is to give tensile strength and function of concrete is to give compressive strength. Once rusted, the strength is gone. This happens due to improper spacing of steel layer. Also present day steel is not manufactured properly for which they rust within few years and fall like powder. Cheap raw materials and poor rolling process is the reason for bad steel rods. British steel bridges in my town 100 years old are still in perfect condition. Cement also matters. So one should not spend huge amount to make it like new.

      you know your area better than I do, but I'll bet quite a few of those steel bridges are actually IRON bridges. Makes a difference. :-) I have iron farm bits that sat out in the weather for decades (maybe over a century), and are barely orange. and steel that over winters sheltered under a tree into a pile of rust before easter.

    • @omkarahi

      @@ironsmiter Yes, correct. Cast iron resists corrosion better than steel. I am not an expert on steel, but I think bridges are not made of cast iron. Many steel rolling mills use scrap steel resulting in low quality rods. Steel making process is a highly complex process and involves some trade secrets. So most of the steel available in local market for house building are low quality and rust quickly. Every company wants to maximize profit and minimize cost of production. So steel falls down like powder after few years if not painted.

    I have the same your problem, same ceiling with old river stone concrete support and dusty surface, I had to remove all the plaster that covered the irons, I cleaned them and applied the passivator. They advised me to proceed as a first step using structural thixotropic mortar (at least to cover the irons) for the first layer, but unfortunately it costs too much. Do you think that a common premixed fibre-reinforced plaster can withstand a thickness of 4 cm?

    • @plaster-work

      I advise you to mix the plaster with the fibers using the method shown in the video from minute 4:00 to 5:00. This is the method by which you place the plaster on the wood and then install it on the ceiling, making sure to fill the spaces well. This method is proven and is better than plaster by hand and will last for a better time.

      @@plaster-work thank you, about "fibers" do you mean those wooden strips which you used to hold the concrete in place during the drying and anchoring phase? For curiosity, What are those plastic tubes embedded in the plaster of the ceiling for?

    This is because of 2 reasons. They may have used saline water,in which the salt may have been more than permitted level. Secondly the concrete did not penetrate through below the bars. And the concrete mixture may not have been mixed in the correct ratio. And now the cement plaster may not last long. Rather concrete mixture with chips should plastered on the celing and cure it at least for 18 days. Then cement plaster in correct ratio must be used for ceiling. It's better to avoid saline water for concreting.

    • @plaster-work

      this repair not plaster only = layer 1 or 2
      Sand and cement and small aggregate

    This is structural damage and plastering is no solution. One way of repair was putting steel or concrete I beams that are tethered thru holes in walls which appear to be load bearing clay brick walls. Otherwise install steel column next to walls. House appears not designed by engineer as I see no beams anywhere in ceiling.

    • @plaster-work

      The plaster will protect the rest of the ceiling so that it does not fall completely - Secondly,
      the walls are weak because hollow block bricks were used from the inside In building walls
      - But the best solution is to rebuild again

      There’s not much point as the strength of the slab has gone now for this steel. It needs to be encased in concrete that is bonded to the rest of the slab which cannot be done. What we see here is just cosmetic. It looks good, keeps the steel from rusting too much but does little for the strength of the slab.

      @@plaster-work but how does rust stop unless it is 100% arrested? That's my concern. Good work though.
      The next solution (other than a new slab) would be to drill angles and insert decking sheets. Value of steel also appreciates.

      It may not be as good as new, but it can be kept from getting worse than the current situation
      If the new plaster can prevent the deformation bar from being exposed to air (oxygen), iron oxide will not continue to form. Therefore, rust will not continue

  • @ganeshduttjoshi6411

    Main reasons for such rusting of reinforcement bars are:-
    1) Improper grain size and gradings of both coarse aggregate and fine aggregate ie gitti and reta.
    2) Inadequate quantity of cement
    3) Not ensuring homogeneous mixing of concrete.
    4) Not maintaining water cement ratio ( less water or excess water )
    5) Not maintaining proper cover while laying concrete.
    6)Not ensuring that the formwork (shuttering ) is water tight. Loss of slurry is harmful.
    7) Inadequate compaction during casting. Excess compaction is also equally harmful.
    8) Not doing the curing by ponding for min 14 days.
    Hence, employing a trained civil engineer during construction is always advisable. Though it will cost a little more during construction yet save such losses in the long run .

  • @justotorres742

    this is only a COSMETIC FIXED ,the real problem of the rebar expansion is not met , is there a leak coming from above or the allowable covering of the concrete slab is not met ? and overtime weathering seeps thru the rebars, just asking ?

    • @plaster-work

      There was no leakage from above, and the problem with this roof, unfortunately, was that it was not built according to the correct rules, and the best solution remains to rebuild it again. But the cost of building again will cost a lot, but it is the ideal solution

    • @plaster-work

      There are types of steel bars, and they differ according to the quality of manufacturing. The higher the quality of the raw materials that manufacture the steel bars, the more difficult they will rust - and vice versa.

    Sorry but you have to break some of the concrete and weld the rebar together, also after welding and repairing the rebars you have to use special cement for example Sika Monotop 910 for repair... Also if you really have to use an ancor, you should use a metalic anchor instead of a plastic based one.
