When my refrigerator went out in January one year, I put the items from my refrigerator out there, because in Utah it was very cold. I would send my kids out to the "garagerator" to get the milk, eggs, and bacon. I had an empty shelf to put all the items on. It worked great!
So nice to see a pantry video with practical tips and not focusing on impractical, but visually pretty, containers. I really need to challenge myself to cook out of the pantry for a week! We could probably do a month, easy…but let’s start with a week. :)
We built our house in 2005 and had one of those soaker tubs with the jet as well. I was 19, we paid extra to get it and had to sacrifice other places in the build to make it work, I thought I'd love it... and I did for a couple of years, then we had more babies, and I never had time to use it, it was a pain to clean, etc. We removed it, put it on marketplace, and moved our washer and dryer to our master bathroom and out of our entryway. We were finally able to make a real mudroom that better suited our big family. Best decision! I'm still so happy we did that.
You have brown everything, we were "blessed" with WALLPAPER. Every.single.room.on.the.first.floor. Most walls had a bottom paper, chair rail, top paper, and a border. All circa 1990. We've been here almost 9 years and I'm finally getting the paper off the walls dining room this month. It feels like a whole new room!!!
We stripped wallpaper in one room of our house. It was stuck on so good, we scored it, then used chemical stripper (that smelled like oranges...weird) mixed up 2x as strong in a garden sprayer... we were planning on ripping up the carpet, so ir didn't matter if it got wet.
I live in the south in a very warm and humid climate. Before moving here just about a year ago, from a very cold northern climate (think snow, ice, below zero temps where bugs and most everything else dies for about 6 months), I converted to storing food items in glass jars, specifically Ball canning jars. I don't do any canning but love the jars for food storage (in the fridge and the pantry). Food lasts a very long time and I've actually been able cut my grocery bill a bit since I started the glass jar storage. Thanks for the video - I love watching these! 🙂
My pantry is deep not wide so it took some time but I was able to find long baskets that I could label to make long “drawers” to hold things. Game changer, no more shuffling and not seeing what’s in the back.
I bought blue plastic baskets at Dollar Tree and organized like stuff. The ones on the floor can be pulled out like you mentioned. That’s where I keep cans because they’re the heaviest. And I label the lid of each with magic marker so I know what’s in it without having to bend over and look at the can.
A year ago I moved to a house with a "bedroom" (no closet though) off of the kitchen which is now my pantry and a sunroom which has my freezer and a long table for my dehydrators. In my pantry I have one shelving unit for my baking needs, one for boxed items, one for commercial canned goods, one for items I've dehydrated, two for t things I've canned myself. I gave a work table in the middle for my vacuum sealing. I have my 5 gallon buckets under the table, full of vacuum sealed sugar, flour, rice, etc. I only purchase or can the foods I know I like to eat. I keep 5 cans of purchased veggies (except tomato products which have a whole shelf). When I gwt down to 2 cans, I replenish. If I need some speciality item, I'll go buy what I need for that recipe. I can tell you exactly what I have or I can quickly see what I have/need to buy.
When I have expired baking mixes (say a year past date ) I read the ingredients and then add a teaspoon of baking powder powder or baking soda to the mix to freshen it up
I think you are the only one on yt that does the pantry in this real, managable way, instead of putting everything in different containers (like pooring popcorn in a glas jar?! Wtf!). Love the baskets with themed stuff! 😁
We have one of those tubs (house was built in 1997) and we only use it to bathe our chocolate Labrador retriever. Husband puts on swim trunks and gets in there with the doggo, both come out clean and sweet-smelling!
I feel well organized with my fridge and freezers but really struggle with the pantry organization. I'd love more of these types of videos and can't wait for the pantry challenge one
We have a bin with the close by dated foods in and one with opened packages in that aren't like for baking. They go front and center at eye level so we remember to use them first . Also in the fridge front and center is a bin of stuff that needs to be used up first or that is bottom of bottles. Helps to keep those items first in mind and prevents food waste. Leftovers also go front and center next to it and they are all clear containers. Since doing that, No more food waste.
My mom is so frugal the only things in her pantry are flour, sugar, salt etc. She hardly buys packaged things at all, almost everything is from scratch, so there’s nothing for me to steal 😂
Poor spider. 🕷️🕸️ We just thank them for their bug-eating service and toss them outside lol. Your pantry looks awesome! More of those large bins would definitely be helpful to us (must contain the chaos that is all the ingredients from the clearance section). PS: I'm showing that amazing closet floor to my husband. He's Team Hire People and I'm Team DIY. So far this year I'm winning -- $700+ dollars saved by ordering a circuit board for the dead washing machine off eBay. Were the connectors for it color-coded? Yes. Did I still feel like a mechanical genius? Also yes.
I love that you began by painting the pantry! Paint adds so much, and I am even thinking a fun color because why not! When life undoes stuff daily, it is so satisfying to have something look good and last awhile! I am inspired so thank you so much!
I have those big plastic bins in my pantry too, and have had them for years. I also think it's the most useful organization system. It contains the mess without getting too detailed.
I try to go thru my pantry every 6-9 months and pull out items that will expire within the next 6 months. Put them on the counter so I can figure ways to use them in meals, etc. before expiration date. By seeing them every day it is easier to use them up.
this is a great video. I need to meal plan out of my pantry for awhile also. Thanks for the tips. Also love your spider story! I hate spiders. I definitely would have screamed too.😂
Pantries and closets are great projects for oops paint (wrong paint or color for someone else, or extra and returned) OR look for similar shades of paint you already have and dump together\use up....maybe it's samples that you were swatching etc.
PaInted my entire garage interior with combined whites/eggshells from the swap shop at our landfill. They do household hazardous waste collections about once a month and the public is welcome to help themselves to cleaners, fertilizer, wallpaper removers, grout cleaners, etc. whatever they pick up. They always have plenty of paint.
In a way I miss a having a pantry big one and in another way I dont miss it 😂 my pantry is what we can fit in laundry basket what we can use that week ..
I'm glad to hear you survived the jumping spider incident without any lasting damage 😂 I really want to paint my pantry with a fresh coat of white paint, and this is the inspiration i needed!
As I'm watching this, I have beef roast in the crackpot. I love using it. I put the ingredients in, and it does the rest. Just that easily supper will be ready.
You have reorganized this pantry so many times already! lol. Just embrace the chaos and call it a day. Although I am sure it’s a great money maker for you to keep making these videos!
I got those bins because of you saying how great they are and let me just say, you’re really under selling how amazing they are. I got some of the slimmer ones to organize some craft items and can I say, magnificent. I gotta reorganize my pantry because it’s gotten out of hand and I might end up getting more bins
14:30 We built our house in 2004. We wanted one of those tubs with the jets. Our builder talked us out of it by telling us that he'd put in whatever we wanted by no one ends us using them. We just put in a larger regular tub. Glad we did because we take showers 99.999999999% of the time.
Haha 2004 build with a jetted tub. I just cleaned thick dust out of it the other day. Yuck. Took a good hour including all the jars around the tub with bath salts I never use. Must put on my calendar to take a bath while it’s still clean. 🤣😂🤣
I do a clean and rearrange on the pantry every year over Christmas break. I few years ago it needed a paint job. It was already white but I bought high gloss white (easier to clean) and put in a light fixture that I could put brighter bulbs in. Huge difference. I also have shelves that are kind of rough and hard to clean so they get new contact paper every few year.
I work for an estate sale company. You are so right about going to your parents' house and clean out their pantry for expired food. I cannot tell you how many times I have I found food items many, many years expired. (Like 2007). It really helps them.
A fresh coat of paint can do wonders for any space. Love the new closet floor. I’ll be over here impatiently waiting for the pantry cooking video. Those are my favorites. ❤️
I love to find unique items while grocery shopping but they tend to stay in the pantry because I married a man who only eats about 5 things. I can make these in my sleep. We don't entertain as we just relocated, so I don't have a friend I can cook for. I only eat small meals within the day...so I need to own up to this and keep on hand the things we really eat and stop having to throw expired things away!!! Thank you for this wake-up call.
When we moved into our 86 year old home last year we had no pantry so my awesome husband built us one. I painted it a beautiful green color and bought some organization containers. I absolutely love it and I love going into it! I also have been a member of Thrive Market for 4 year's and love their products. You can actaully get a free membership if you are a veteran, teacher or emergency worker. They have great products I cant find in my small town.
8:34 Sierra Soups! I am so excited to see this in your hand! (I am pleased over the silliest things, I know.) I grew up in and around Fresno where this small company (but growing one, obviously!) originated from. The store was just little tiny, itsy bitsy when I was a kid. I grew up, married, kids and one year for Christmas my mom gave me a giant food basket filled with food from here. And I loved it all. (Such a *great* gift!) I hope you like that one. I always add some meat to make it heartier. The Fresno Fog is good, too, if you like split pea. Yummy!! Oh, and I love your fresh white pantry! Now...on to the rest of the video.
I really need to clean out my pantry. I just had my mom move to our area but she's staying with us until her house is ready. She brought her pandemic pantry for us, which was filled with foods we hate. On top of that, I'm often gifted things I'd never make (like soda bread mix, huckleberry muffin mix, etc). I have a disorganized home right now but summer may be the best time to declutter and reorganize!
Is my pantry a color? hmmm I have no idea. I live in my parents home, just over 65 years old. If it was ever painted it was MANY years ago. Mostly I think it's wood... some sort of masonite or um whatever. Your pantry looks SO NICE! Like just the design of it would be infinitely easier to keep organized than my weirdly shaped pantry but I'm so happy to have a pantry! Anyone else move from rental to rental with nothing even close to a pantry?
Spidey in the tub! At our house , I deal with the spiders. My husband deals with any mice or frogs (EEWWW).works out pretty well. Pantry & bathroom floor look great!
I shop my pantry before going grocery shopping. Then I just make my list on items I need to finish the meal. For example I’m going to make my version of fried rice and need corn on the cob. I already have the ice, peas and I have chicken for my protein. When I meal plan I call it shop my pantry.
as a southerner who 5 months ago went thru a weevil infestation issue, those closed flour size bins are a must now. Labels need changing - (easy, use blue tape/sharpie). Instead of your open top loose bins I use similar catch all bins with lids and the gasket seals on them. I do have a few open bins but everything goes in a ziplock baggie so again, weevil containment, if they show up. I do inspect and sequester suspect items like rice/flour until they have been proven weevil free.
Our library has an old newspaper dispenser where you can take food for the needy. Just pop it in and whoever needs it can take what they need. I like it, it’s available 24/7 for those who can’t get to the regular pantry or just need something quickly. I have never seen anyone abuse it. No questions asked. It is outside so non-perishables only. I wish there were more. Troubling times and I’m in great shape food wise. Garden is in and canning season is almost upon us.
We have just the tiny pantry in the built in cabinets with the ugly slide out drawers. Maybe I should clean them and lay contact paper down on my week vacation with my kiddos. We can only keep so much and I’m a natural cleaner/organized person there’s nothing we don’t use. But it could use a refresh 😳
You inspired me! I ran to my pantry and grabbed 3 items, tossed them in the crock pot with some stew meat and BAM… dinner! Thank you Christine! Love your videos ❤
I am so envious of your pantry !!! I would love to have a bug space like that, mine is super tiny and I had to out a shelf in the washer dryer area and use baskets to store canned and boxed goods. Blah ! Seriously your looks brand new and I love the upgrade I your closet ! Looks amazing !!!
Love the freshened pantry and closet! Can't wait to see the 30-days pantry cooking video! Dave is such a great hubby, love seeing you two work on the game plans together!
This was perfect timing - I have a new refrigerator arriving in a couple of weeks, and to fit better in my small kitchen went smaller on the fridge - so thought I really need to clean out my freezer and fridge now before it doesn't fit. I know this one is pantry, but the principles work the same. And now I'm off to the pantry, figuring out what will go with all the chicken and pork chops I forgot I bought on sale!
Jason Ackles❤❤ & we have those big jumpy spiders, too! Lots of screaming and running going on! 😂😂😂 Absolutely loved this video! Makes me wanta clean out my pantry!
Last Saturday was USPS collection for food banks and I pulled too much out for them that didn't fit in my small mailbox so I started cooking with what didn't fit.
The best thing I've ever done is to put a list app on my phone to keep track of my pantry supplies. It was hard at first but boy, has it saved me! Instead of buying several duplicates over & over, l can quickly check to see if l already have whatever l was thinking l really needed. My phone is always w/me, so why not. 😊
I enjoyed today's video. Thank you for the free inventory lists. I've just been thinking that I need to take inventory of my pantry and freezer. Your timing is perfect. You rock! 😃
LOL! An ad for doordash came on saying I don't have to look in the pantry...I'm so conflicted! (Not really. Never order doordash. That's why I watch you...great motivating ideas!❤)
I like that shelf on the left where it wraps around the corner. The rest of the shelves matched would look pretty good. Thank you for sharing your skills knowledge and experience
I started buying those clear bins from Walmart because you had suggested them in a lot of videos! I don't have large pantries but was super happy when I found out that three of those will fit the shelves perfectly! Next step is breaking out the cricut and labeling them!
So funny to see this video, I just finished making my pantry pretty again. I actually took it from dark red to light yellow and a pretty floral peel and stick wallpaper on the main wall. I smile every time I open the door. Now to use up all that food that was hiding in there.
We have a section on one of the shelves in the basement that is just for stuff that needs to be eaten. As we add to the stock pile, we pay attention to the other shelves and add to the section. That helps me determine what's next as well
Hi Christine! Thanks for inspiring me to tackle the pantry next week! I think I do have some paint laying around. It's never been painted in the last 17 years... or ever. House was built in 1992. In fact, our closet is the same... hmmm.... Love all your videos, but please next time you talk about those giant spiders (we have them here in OR too!) put a trigger warning!!! I did not know they could JUMP!!! ahhhhhhhhh!
Thanks for this video. We moved into our house in February. I did minimal organizing in the pantry, because I wanted to see how we use it before buying many containers. I needed this motivation to pull it out and start over, before it gets any worse!
You can take the expired or past sell use and best by date stuff to the food cabinets on sides of Rd that food will go fast. Take something or leave stuff too. As long as package is in good condition it should be fine to eat Most that use pantries use these too and know to use their eyes and nose for the sight smell test
This will be me start of June. My father will be installing a new wood panty cabinet as we don't have a built in one in our kitchen... really excited and your video has given me lots of ideas. Thank you Christine you are the best :)
They are wonderful but she uses the instant pot a lot. It's like a pressurized crockpot that goes a lot faster, and most have a slow cooker function if you don't cook under pressure. They also have a browning\searing, rice, yogurt, etc function, and some even bake and air fry so the instant pot is a space saver and can be a real workhorse. She has 2 or 3 of them for big cooking and meal prepping. So for her crock pot is redundant.
I normally do grocery pickup bc of the toddler. I just went to the bakery outlet this week and got great deals on bread to freeze. This week I’m going to go in store and get the Kroger stickers instead and meal plan from that! Thanks for helping keep me accountable! Love your videos!!
This inspired me to clean my walls... I regret this decision and I blame you Christine 😂
😂
😂
I use a reusable flat mop with a handle to clean my walls. Works wonders and doesn't take long.
😂😂😂
😅
When my refrigerator went out in January one year, I put the items from my refrigerator out there, because in Utah it was very cold. I would send my kids out to the "garagerator" to get the milk, eggs, and bacon. I had an empty shelf to put all the items on. It worked great!
In alaska we had an outside freezer that was only there to prevent predators from getting to our food 😂
So nice to see a pantry video with practical tips and not focusing on impractical, but visually pretty, containers. I really need to challenge myself to cook out of the pantry for a week! We could probably do a month, easy…but let’s start with a week. :)
I just painted my daughters old room. She went through her black phase and I painted it white with black trim and teal bedding. Total make over.
My kids don't live real close. When I know their coming I go through my pantry and send stuff back with them. Pantry rotation and updated list done.
I don’t have a pantry that I need to clean but the spider story was worth the watch. 😂 😂🕷️
Glad you survived
I just redid my pantry yesterday and I got a bunch of bins at my dollar tree. Total game changer and under $10.
I’m honestly just here for the humour! The tips are just a bonus 😹😹 keep it up
You have brown everything, we were "blessed" with WALLPAPER. Every.single.room.on.the.first.floor. Most walls had a bottom paper, chair rail, top paper, and a border. All circa 1990. We had pink. Everywhere. And flocked wallpaper in the two story foyer. And wallpaper border. The worst was the carpet in the bathroom. Good times.
Our house came with cream carpet...... in the kitchen! We had 4 boys under 10 years old at the time. The carpet came up while we moved in.

I don’t have a pantry but made one with a cabinet I bought from Lowe’s. ❣️❤️❤️❤️
Now you need some sensor lighting it there!!! GAME CHANGER!! Looks amazing and thanks for the "use it up" inspo!❤
I added battery operated lights
We have one of those tubs (house was built in 1997) and we only use it to bathe our chocolate Labrador retriever. Husband puts on swim trunks and gets in there with the doggo, both come out clean and sweet-smelling!

@@peggypeters6676 "They're not monsters, Lex. They're just animals."

“Fantasy self”-🤣 so true
Bay leaves on shelves keep pest at bay. Nevers had best in my food. Love you clips. Keep up the good work.

I'm glad to hear you survived the jumping spider incident without any lasting damage 😂 I really want to paint my pantry with a fresh coat of white paint, and this is the inspiration i needed!

Christine versus Big Ugly Brown Spider: spider no more/Christine victorious! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Pantry looks really good! 🎉

Like just the design of it would be infinitely easier to keep organized than my weirdly shaped pantry but I'm so happy to have a pantry! Anyone else move from rental to rental with nothing even close to a pantry?
The story at the end was a fun addition :) thanks for keeping it real!
I would love to have a pantry like yours. 😊
We have the plank flooring. So durable.!!. We have three dogs and a toddler.
as a southerner who 5 months ago went thru a weevil infestation issue, those closed flour size bins are a must now.
You are soooooo right about the problems of messy pantries, the quantity of stuff people have.
Jumping spiders are my nightmare. Glad you survived!
You inspired me! I ran to my pantry and grabbed 3 items, tossed them in the crock pot with some stew meat and BAM… dinner! Thank you Christine! Love your videos ❤
I found a recipe on pinterest for Mongolian beef made with ramen noodles and using the crockpot. It. Was. So. Good!
All this is good, but thanks for the shot of Jensen ♥️. Actually, I love these videos.
My daughter is going to tour the College of the Ozarks in June! She wants to double major in business and culinary 🤩
What’s the name of the app you’re using?
I need this in my life! What app?
I enjoyed today's video. Thank you for the free inventory lists. I've just been thinking that I need to take inventory of my pantry and freezer. Your timing is perfect. You rock! 😃
I went to College of the Ozarks! It's the best place!!
Pantry/Freezer clean out videos are my favorite❤. Looking forward to the new video!
LOL! An ad for doordash came on saying I don't have to look in the pantry...I'm so conflicted! (Not really. Never order doordash. That's why I watch you...great motivating ideas!❤)
This gluten free blue berry muffins are straight fire! So freaking good.
And I love your content. Keep it up!
I agree, they are so yummy!
My mom always used to doctor up the cheap jiffy mix and add really big blueberries. Great memories of blueberry muffins
I started watching you when you did the pantry last time.
Om, that is ahuge pantry and master closet!!!
Is there a video on the closet flooring ?
Just an idea....Looks like you have room to make your shelves deeper... giving you extra storage room. Love your posts. So fun.
We buy yummy lion house products @ the bookstore too
We have a section on one of the shelves in the basement that is just for stuff that needs to be eaten.
Too funny! People are so different. I love and use our containers from Costco and our jetted tub is used every single day:)
That is incredible the difference the paint made! It looks so good! On camera it looks SO much brighter!
You can pep up an old baking mix by putting in some baking powder.
I need to clean out & meal plan from the pantry this weekend!!
Free food and not expired food can go to food pantries also.
You can take the expired or past sell use and best by date stuff to the food cabinets on sides of Rd that food will go fast. Take something or leave stuff too.
As long as package is in good condition it should be fine to eat
Most that use pantries use these too and know to use their eyes and nose for the sight smell test
I really enjoyed your video! Love your sense of humor & you also inspired me to get my pantry painted & in order. Thank you & keep up the great work❤
I love a good pantry organization.
This will be me start of June. My father will be installing a new wood panty cabinet as we don't have a built in one in our kitchen... really excited and your video has given me lots of ideas. Thank you Christine you are the best :)
You're missing out not using your crockpot often. Makes easy delicious meals. 😊
@@lethiapage4767 Agreed. I thought she was going to declutter it, since she has an Instant Pot.
I make yogurt in mine.
I normally do grocery pickup bc of the toddler. I just went to the bakery outlet this week and got great deals on bread to freeze. This week I’m going to go in store and get the Kroger stickers instead and meal plan from that! Thanks for helping keep me accountable! Love your videos!!
My pantry is 1/3 that size. 😫 Great ideas!!🎉
We put that same color floor in our living room. Looks great
I’ve been hoping for this video! Good job!!
