Not to be sexist, but they really should lower the rim to 8 feet in the WNBA if they want to increase ratings and watchability. The WNBA gets no viewers because it's so dreadful to watch. They already use a smaller ball than men - so no use trying to pretend like it's not different already. They might as well lower the rim to make it more exciting. No need to pretend that men and women are the same. Just do the logical thing and lower the rim.

I think if the W NBA was smart they would just lower the rim to 9 or 9 1/2 and then you probably get more girls with the ability to dunk. At the end of the day, men have testosterone or at least a higher level of testosterone and a greater propensity to gain muscle mass. So expecting women to do what men do at the same level of the same strength of the same power with the same speed with the same ability to jump as high is just ridiculous. There are women who can do things better than men but sometimes not all the time. I mean I'm pretty sure there's no guy who can give birth like a woman so I think there need to be some differences in the expectations for some things. It's great that women can shoot threes as well as men can shoot threes and shoot on a 10-foot rim, but if we're talking about dunking just doesn't make any sense. I mean how many women do you see over 7 feet tall even in the women's basketball league? It's pretty common on every basketball team for the NBA though

Women should play on a smaller rim to make it more proportional to their athletic ability. The shortest guy to dunk was like 5'4 and the shortest girl to dunk was like 6'8 so if girls played on a 9 foot rim that would be better.

Men play on an 243 cm (about 8 feet) net and women compete on a 224 cm (7 feet 4 inches ish) net. That makes the women's game just as spectacular as the men's game. The lower net height allows women to make the same kind of plays the men do.

There are boys high school team's that would absolutely destroy WNBA teams.
Cole James: Don't fool yourself... Top WNBA players would be low major D1 players on the men's side. I don't think some of you realize how big and physical these girls are. In reality unless you are talking about prep and private schools who can recruit, you're best high school basketball teams in this country will have at tops two boys who can play D1 ball at any level. Also they want to be paid in the WNBA so they don't have to go overseas to make money. Right now the WNBA is just the summer league of women's pro basketball. Its where the girls stay in shape and work on their skills. They are being paid 6 and 7 figures to compete in Asia and Europe. As a matter of fact in 2015 Diana Taurasi was paid a very large sum by her club team not to play in the WNBA so she'd be healthy and rested for an extended Euroleague run.
Trainer Rob: I don't think so. If you take the cream of the WNBA crop, then sure, they could beat most HS boys teams, but there are a LOT of HS teams (not just prep schools) that could demolish these women. Even if the women were more skilled, they would get run all over. Those boys are just too fast for most women. It's just basic physiological differences.

Back in the day we played on 8' rims. Yes we were are all short and most of us were about 5'5". The tallest would be about 5'8" which would be the centers. It opened up a whole new game for us as we had to adjust to people being able to dunk. Yes we also played 10' but we all basically became John Stockton. I think it would be great to lower the rim to 9' for women. Nothing shame or degrading about it. It will open up a whole new level to their game.
Absolutely agree. Men and women have different strengths. This sport caters naturally to the men’s. It’s not lessening of the game by adjusting it to better serve its players. Woman’s basketball needs this. I’m sure the NBA would be far less exciting with 12’ rims.

You're basically telling me that a woman who has likely had between 5-13 years of athleticism (starting sports in school) won't be at the same level in her 20's as a man at the same age who has been athletic (playing with other boys, running, and generally just being brought up to be tougher) virtually his whole life, which is only true because of the time invested in training the musculature. Look at the difference between body builders at different stages of training, same sex or otherwise. The muscles take years to mature.
Hell, look at those martial arts monks that train from boyhood to gain flexibility, hanging from their necks in swings for hours, etc. If women trained the same exact way and intensity from youth, there would be little or no difference in their performance. It's a matter of women not being held to the same standards training wise, that, and a huge height difference in most regards. Look at Yao Ming's tall ass.

The article makes the point lowering the rim will make "most sports fans believing that women's sports and female athletes are inferior.". However this is already the case! Men and women's sports and baseline athletic ability aren't comparable. So stop trying to compare them from some moral point of it's for women's equality. In Track and Field women don't throw shot putts and discuses that the same weight. But the women's throws are seen equally as the men's because they aren't held to the same standard as the men but the results are still the same. The same could be said for the wnba's rim height.

Who cares about the few women who dunks. We see that everyday with men. I get tired of women saying they can do anything a man can do. Not true at all. If so, why are they not built like men? Why can't they play football like men? Why do they play with a smaller ball than men do? I am not saying that women can't play the game ect.. They just can't do it on the level of men. Men dunk several times a game. You can count how many times a woman has dunked during games.
Yes I agree that women are not built with the abilities like men. It is harder for women to dunk, it is harder to play at the level that men do. But that's the point of the whole video. When women dunk, they are proving that they are exceptional because women dunking is so rare, they must be incredibly talented to do so. Think about it like this. When Usain Bolt ran 100m in 9.58 seconds, everyone was blown away by his speed and his ability to run fast. See, when women dunk, rather than saying 'oh men can do that way better', we should say 'wow that's incredible that a woman can do that'. Women's bodies are designed differently, mainly to nurture and raise children, right. So when a woman can dunk, it deserves attention.

Everyone can do anything,l.. theres no doubt (save the obvious... like giving birth,etc) But just because they can doesnt mean they will excel at it (or maybe even do it at all). Thats the problem with the MODERN womens movement - making men and women believe they are equal at everything and it just isnt the case. Which just so happens to sum up why pay/hiring/promotion/etc in differing fields is so different.
Women are for more caring of others and exceedingly more "life" focused then men as a whole. Not a stereotype... not a misconception... not assigned gender roles either... its a stead-fast fact based on years of matrices. Of course their are exceptions- which leads me back to the fact the nay-sayers could change this.
Men are far more aggressive and tend to have zero issues with risk/harm when it comes to striving/attaining a goal. Same thing, not a preconceived notion pulled from thin air - even the most effeminate men choose riskier professions/hobbies than the most masculine of women.
All it takes is to change any given scenario and one or the other naturally exceeds the other in efficiency.

This video is 4 years old and the rankings would probably stay the same now. Dunking is not an emphasis in the women’s game. It’s also interesting to note that #1 & #2 were both from Brittney Griner’s first ever WNBA game. Frequent dunks were expected from her in her career, but it really hasn’t panned out that way.
