Why are the front trucks positioned the wrong way? Is there some sort of benefit to doing so or are the trucks specially made so that everything feels the same as when the trucks are 'normal'. (Doing this on a normal board makes it near impossible to turn so I'm a bit confused 😅)
With a more flexible truck comes more maneuverability which you need in your practice in surfing. This millor surfskate was more a cruiser than a surfskate. There are even more flexible surfskates.
@@surfcompanions so the front truck being flipped was on purpose? Do you need to buy a special truck to do this or can you do it with any cruiser truck ? (Sorry for all the questions, this is very confusing to me )

Is it a "usual/only correct way" to throw your arms when you have weight are on the toes and compress on the heels? Or does it work the other way round too?
Hey hey, for surfing it is necessary to throw the arms to have the proper technique to generate horizontal speed. With the surftrainer / surfskate it is also possible to not use the arms but then you will have a problem in the water, because you can‘t transition so quick from heels to toes on your surfboard. You automatically put pressure on rather the toe or heels side by using the combination of de-compress and throwing the arms. Let us know how your experience is.i will do in the near future another video about it;)
The surfskate is a miller, and the surfboard I surfed during that video was a firewire skx. But I would recommend smoothstar for a surfskate brand. Closest you can have to surfing!
Thanks for some great tutorials. Could you make a longer take where you do the tricks/exercise without slow motion. It gives a lot to look at some real time as well. Looking forward for the next video🏄🏽♂️
My apologies if this question has already been asked and answered but what kind of shoes are you wearing? They look like VIVObarefoot shoes to me. Are those good for skating, reason I ask is I’m in the market for new skate shoes having just bought my first surf skate (Carver x Carson Proteus). I had a pair of Etnies before that I used on my electric longboard which lasted me two years, but they were really gross after rides, since they don’t breathe well
Too be honest, yes for this video I used my vivo barefoot, because I want to have the closest feeling to surfing, which is no shows. I usually skated with flat shoes ( nike sb, even reeboks,) but when I train on my smoothstar I use actually now shoes. Gives me the best feeling, but I don‘t recommend it to someone who is just starting surf skating. So vivo barefoots are a good option, but barefoot is the best;) hope I could help. Cheers daniel
@@surfcompanions Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm looking into Lems Trailheads which are a minimalist shoe. I'm new to barefoot shoes also so these will be the best transition I think. Great points though!!
It could be appropriate to indicate that before that it is important to know how to go in straight line with the surfskate, how to move the feet from 'pushing' position in to pumping position... :)
Would you say you'd use your ''strong'' leg on the board and push with your ''weak'' leg? Because with writing I am right and feel like i'm more stable with everything on my right side. So would I put my right foot on first? Yesterday I bought my first board ever (a surfskate) and I'm kinda nervous 😅
Thanks for your message. You should think not in weak or strong. Rather explore which feet is in front of you surfskate. If you are a „regular“ ( left feet in front) or a „goofy“ (right feet in front) I will make an extra video how to find out if you are a regular or goofy soon;)
Not the wrong way, but especially the front truck is different to a normal skateboard. This particular surfskate os more like a carver. They are more flexible trucks. Thanks for your comment
Rather surfskate, because the trucks are more flexible an therefore easier for quicker turns. And you can still cruise,so both. A cruiser is a bit stiffer. Sry for the late answer;)
I appreciate your great video. One question I have is, are you always keeping your weight on the front foot when standing on the board? I have been told when turning the weight should be on be back foot
You want to maintain speed during your turns so you should stay in your „chest over front knee“ - position. That automatically gives you more weight on your front foot. In longboard surfing, or with bigger boards, yes, there you have to shift your weight quick back for turning, but immediate afterwards you have to bring your weight again forward ( in longboarding usually followed by a cross step or shuffle ). Feel free to ask any addiditonaö questions. Greetings Daniel
@@surfcompanions thank you for the reply. It's hard to make sense of because there are some surf skate videos out there that say your weight should predominantly be on your back foot 🦶.
@@arunr5529 thanks for your comment. I know, the easiest is: Try it out! Yes you could turn your board with a lot of weight on your back foot, but I teach the techniques which you need in surfing not only surfskate. @@surfcompanions Hey Daniel, Yes I am trying it on my front foot as I am using this to train for my surfing. I am only just starting out and so for me it doesn't feel natural, when you are generating speed it looks effortless.
Would this help with snowboarding? I've been dying to find a off season hobby as a snowboarder. I'm scared to death in the ocean (mainly cuz i cant find anyone to go with me). Then I found out about surfskate. I saw lot of ppl riding surfskate without pushing, and they go very slow. I was thinking maybe this is the safer option. I find skateboard and longboard to be scary. I tried skateboard once and fell it was no fun. Maybe 10x more painful than snowboard.
Definetly yes! Surfskate you can train without a pipe or objects. You can train easy on a flat underground👌👌and it will help you to improve your snowboarding;)ps: sorry for the late answer.
Online of course and a lot of surf shops offer them, but at the moment is the market sold out, the companies have a hard time to come up with the orders. Online is the best option I guess:)
I have a question thats been bothering me for a while. I've been surfing for about 2 years, and surf with the regular stance (same as when I learnt to Snowboard as a child). However when trying to surfskate or even just cruise on a pennyboard, the goofy stance feels much much more stable and comfortable. Is it common that you have opposite stances in surfskating vs surfing? I want to surfskate to learn the proper technique for surfing, however I feel like its hard to translate it to surfing if I have to do everything the opposite way around. Would you recommend switching surfskate stance even if it feels unnatural and much more difficult?
A few people feel exactly the same as you. Maybe someone in the community can explain this in more details, but I would recommend to skate in the same stance as on the surfboard, so your body has the perfect muscle memory, although if its feel totally unnatural and its not working out then skate in your goofy stance. Some people can do both sides;)
Sorry we don‘t,because it works best when you use it as well. Sketching in etc. we are also sad to not able to deliver it to certain countries, due of Covid-19. Lets hope it‘ll change soon;)
To be honest I surfskate most of the times with normal sneakers. The vivo shoe has a really close feel for the surfskate but you shouldnt hit the ‚break‘ too much;)
thank you very much for your explanations! they are very interesting and clear! can I ask your advice? to improve our surfing skills ,we use a skate, smoothstar by John Defey. will this skate work for stimulating real ocean surfing? can you explain how to do SNEP on a skateboard ?
Thanks a lot for your comment. Next surfskatevideo will be about the snap so just wait for a little longer;) yes the smoothstar of john defey is really helpful ,too! For my style its a little bit too flexible but really dont get me wrong: go for it! Its a good brand;) cheers
@@surfcompanions we look forward to your next video about snap and other video tutorials. they are very interesting and useful. thank you for the clear explanation
Thanks for your response, its hard to say. Its the same if you would ask which is the surfboard. Its not possible to answer. More important is to surfskate and surf, it doesn‘t really matter which brand at least you are doing it;) There is a saying in Photography: The best camera is the one you have in your hand;)
Yow and smoothstar are counting into the category surfskate but they are, when I remeber right in a bit higher price range. We can only recommend what we tried. But a surfskate is improving your surfing for sure, especially when you don‘t live on the ocean. This model is totally fine,i train on it as well. But like in everything there are always higher price sections. I hope I could answer your question;)
You got any recommendation for buying a surf skate? I am already comfortable on a longboard to get from a to b, but I don't do tricks or jumps (so far). Just use the longboard for cruising. Want to get the surf skate to improve my surfing technique. I am currently at the point where I have to learn generating speed to then start practicing some maneuvers in the waves. Figured out that Smoothstar is kind of the best but also pricy. Cause you never know how often you gonna use something which you never tried out before. Is there a cheaper but good working alternative?
Sorry für die späte Antwort. Der Ferrari unter den Surf Skates ist meiner Meinung Smoothstar, da es dem Surfen am nächsten kommt. Von dem her check mal Smoothstar.com , aber andere marken sind auch gut. Ich spreche nur aus meiner persönlichen Erfahrung und Coaching Erfahrung. thanks for the video! but also - the colors of the sky and the trees behind you look pretty cool. did you edit this video, did some coloring? or used an ND filter on the camera?

Hey thanks so much for the tutorial. Can you share what brand your surf board is?
The surfskate is a miller, and the surfboard I surfed during that video was a firewire skx. But I would recommend smoothstar for a surfskate brand. Closest you can have to surfing!
Thanks for some great tutorials. Could you make a longer take where you do the tricks/exercise without slow motion. It gives a lot to look at some real time as well. Looking forward for the next video🏄🏽♂️
Thanks for your feedback. I will for sure do the real time clips longer;)

Easy to understand - Thanks a lot!! Looking forward to watch your next video 👍🏼.
Thanks so much:
That's exactly what I needed, thank you! Can't wait for the next vid! Cheers from Russia :)
Thanks a lot, working on more videos right now. :)
What does goofy (in skating) mean?
That you have the right foot in front in your stance;)
@@surfcompanions then I'm goofy 😎
It could be appropriate to indicate that before that it is important to know how to go in straight line with the surfskate, how to move the feet from 'pushing' position in to pumping position... :)
Hey, what’s kind of surfskate is it ? 😊
Its a miller but I would recommend smoothstar;)
Would you say you'd use your ''strong'' leg on the board and push with your ''weak'' leg? Because with writing I am right and feel like i'm more stable with everything on my right side. So would I put my right foot on first? Yesterday I bought my first board ever (a surfskate) and I'm kinda nervous 😅
Thanks for your message. You should think not in weak or strong. Rather explore which feet is in front of you surfskate. If you are a „regular“ ( left feet in front) or a „goofy“ (right feet in front)
I will make an extra video how to find out if you are a regular or goofy soon;)
@@surfcompanions thankyou for the explanation my board just came in 20 minutes ago and I’m already trying to practice 😁
@@sheralyncaupain9481 keep us posted about your progress.:)
Never actually done any surfskating so I am probably very wrong but isn't his forward truck the wrong way?
Not the wrong way, but especially the front truck is different to a normal skateboard. This particular surfskate os more like a carver. They are more flexible trucks. Thanks for your comment
if i just want to cruise but make quick turns, like for going to the city. Should i buy a surfskate or a cruiser? What is the biggest difference?
I have a lot of students who want to even starts discussion, but I give the best advice if they want: Try it out and you will feel the difference:) Let us know once you tried it:) Greetings Daniel

Im regular but push with my front feet and my backfeet on the board. Is this a problem i have to get rid off?
No you dont have to get rid of it. In skateboarding you are get called a ‚mongo‘ pusher;) dont worry all good;)
where did you get your board from?
This one I got actually from my sister, but the other boards I got from smoothar: www.smoothstar.com/?ref=2
@@surfcompanions sweet!!! thank you!
Does anyone know where to get a surf skate?
Some people can do both sides;)
th-cam.com/users/shortsaIFBBwys-Ss?feature=share
I surf regular but skate goofy foot and it works for me.
What type of skateboard di you have
At the moment I have a miller. 😁
Do you have a digital version of the book mentioned in your video?
Sorry we don‘t,because it works best when you use it as well. Sketching in etc. we are also sad to not able to deliver it to certain countries, due of Covid-19. Lets hope it‘ll change soon;)
saludos from Peru.
Saludos!;)
Great video! Thanks!
Great to hear;)
How the feeling with those Vivo shoes? Do they tear apart when surf skating?
@@surfcompanions thank you very much for your response! but what do you think is the best brand for surfing modification on earth?
@@surfcompanions we look forward to your next video about snap and other video tutorials. they are very interesting and useful. thank you for the clear explanation
Thanks for your response, its hard to say. Its the same if you would ask which is the surfboard. Its not possible to answer. More important is to surfskate and surf, it doesn‘t really matter which brand at least you are doing it;) There is a saying in Photography: The best camera is the one you have in your hand;)
The dogs great, what breed is that?
Found my dog in the trash when she was about 3 weeks old. Its a mix of a bit podengo but also have dots from a dalamtsie. Special dog;)
Well nice video!!! What is the name and how can I get this book mentioned in the video?
Hey Luiz, your surfcompanion you can get easy over our website:
surf-companions.com
Thanks for your message!
What is the different of surfskate and skateboard?? They look the same
The trucks are totally different. The surfskate is way more flexible which allows you to turn easy on flat ground
Why does my surf skate lift, when turning?
What do you mean with lift?
hi! thanks for the video :) is this model of surfskate worth money for the surfing trainings? comparing with the smoothstar or yow?
Yow and smoothstar are counting into the category surfskate but they are, when I remeber right in a bit higher price range. We can only recommend what we tried. But a surfskate is improving your surfing for sure, especially when you don‘t live on the ocean. This model is totally fine,i train on it as well. But like in everything there are always higher price sections. I hope I could answer your question;)
@@surfcompanions thank you :)
What model is this? Can you post a link? I really like it
You got any recommendation for buying a surf skate?
I am already comfortable on a longboard to get from a to b, but I don't do tricks or jumps (so far). Just use the longboard for cruising.
Want to get the surf skate to improve my surfing technique. I am currently at the point where I have to learn generating speed to then start practicing some maneuvers in the waves.
Figured out that Smoothstar is kind of the best but also pricy. Cause you never know how often you gonna use something which you never tried out before. Is there a cheaper but good working alternative?
very very nice board I LOVE IT
Great to hear!
couldn't you surfskate on any skateboard with light bushings?
Hey kristian light bushings is an option but its never that close as with the special trucks from a surfskate. They are special and extra flexible which allows to make tight turns on a flat ground
@@surfcompanions you could do tight turns with a combo of light bushings & loosened trucks as it makes your skateboard more zigzaggy
I want your boots, your clothes and your motorcycle, well skateboard.
Great video and enjoyed your accent.
Great to hear;)
Thank you so much 😊
Its a pleasure!
Thanks for your video, it' s helpful.
Thanks so much!
i never surfed and my first time doing this. just injured my pinkie and kinda scared tbh. i struggle carving
thanks for the video! but also - the colors of the sky and the trees behind you look pretty cool. did you edit this video, did some coloring? or used an ND filter on the camera?
I used a nd filter yes;) good eyes👌
That was very helpful. Thank you.
Cool to hear;)

@@surfcompanions welcome i like surf skate board too

Excellent video! ( and fun too 😉)
Thanls sooo much jean!;)
Im into cruising on a skateboard. Can u recommend this as entry to surfing for skaters?
Yes,because a surfskate give you the closest surf related body movements what you get outside the water. Of course a surfskate won‘t replace the feeling of real surfing;) but its a great way to improve your surfing. Hope we could help;)
let me see if I understand when you are turning toe side you extend your legs and throw you arms up ?
compress heelside extend toe side ?
what you saw in the video was generating speed on the front side, yes. It works with the same movement ( action is: decompress and throw arms ) also for your backhand (heel side). And yes you understood it perfectly:) Try it out and let us know if it works;)
is there anyone can tell me what’s “hit the intro” mean?
The fundamentals of S K A T E B O A R D I N G . . .

What if I only ride it on land and don't water surf? My dad got my one and I don't surf, don't live near water 😅
Could I shred bowls with this
Yes, but start with a not heavy bowl first. But I sometimes go too or a pumping track. Also fun;)
@@surfcompanions my parks got a really good clover shaped bowl, one side beginner spot another intermediate and the othe is 11 foot with 2 feet of very, you can just pump one either side in a loop or pump the whole pool. It’s fun to carve I was just starting to hit copping, haven’t skated cause the heats to intense so I usually surf at old mans by a huge power plant in California
Super Video super erklärt 👍

Can u do a FS 180 to reverse tutorial?
I would love to, but its not quite similar to the surfing maneuvers. The next videos will be about, bottom turn, re-entry and cutback...and more:) FS 180 is more of a skateboard trick. :) Thanks for your comment!
Nice Thani you
I love to surfskate it's game changer for me to skate but I don't want to get in the water.
Great to hear!
Same here, the price tag for surfing is pretty high for me but I love the feeling of it! Being able to have that feeling anywhere I want is awesome

I skate with a silver beard too
