  • Surf skating has taken off in the last few years as one of the primary on-land training methods for surfers to improve their on wave performance.
Without the restrictions of waiting for a wave and lucking into the right position to catch it, surfers can now practice manoeuvres, speed pumping and much more on the concrete. In this series I want to help you master the most important techniques on a surf skate, which also apply on the surfboard, so that you can start ripping in the waves.
This video is brought to you by my best-selling course, THE ULTIMATE SURF SKATE PROGRAM. Join over 3000 students at bit.ly/Ultimate_Surf_Skate_Pro...

Great project in the makings. Lots of people are turning to surfskating as a surf trainer. Personally, I started with a budget board - Decathlon's carver (Oxelo 540) but quickly realized that its trucks are hindering my turns and you can't really go through cones placed close one to another without ending on 2 wheels. Now, I'm using a Smoothstar Holy Toledo and I'm really happy although a deck a bit more concave might help more when attempting to do tricks. In terms of movement, I feel that I need to put a lot of concious effort to generate speed using the proper technique so I kinda cheat a lot by wiggling and not compressing/extending enough (or at all). Would love to find out more about how to correct that. This also affects my snaps on smooth ramps (not bowl) as I can't get to the top part of the ramp. I mostly loose the momentum while going up so the trick usually ends incomplete. Looking forward for the episodes on tricks as well. Good luck and keep up the good vibes Kale🤙

I also started wit the Oxelo 540. Within 4 weeks I changed to Carver trucks on Oxelo board. Now 6 months later have a completely new Carver setup. But I did like the fact that Oxelo got me going and got me to 85% of the efficiency and 100% of the learning.

Can’t explain it, I just really can’t skate regular. So I was wondering if skating with the other foot in the front really helps me in the waves because obviously all the mouvements are in the other direction. Should I persist and try to skate regular or is it still helpful if I’m skating goofy?

Since most of the turning action comes from the front truck, how much tension (or lack of) should the rear truck have? Too much combined motion of both trucks together would make it that much more difficult for an absolute beginner with little or no skateboard experience to learn the basics of balance!

Cx trucks with orangutan purple knuckle bushings is very surfing feeling, more like carving on a poinbreak, also allows you to make long bottom turns with steady speed. I'm not a big fan of snappy turns on concrete. I have a toledo 77, doesn't feel as natural and flowy as my CX

Great easily digestible content with perfect delivery. Well done! Subscribing for more.
This is one of the few tutorials that I have seen separate backside and frontside speedflow, with extension full through the opposite side of the turn, rather than extension only to the middle “inflection” point. This makes the most sense to me for translation to surfing but seems to limit speed generation on flat ground. Curious if you see a place for the more common compressing on each side of the turn (ie. combining frontside and backside flow together)? I’m coming from a place of having very limited surfing access so would prefer to practice techniques that won’t screw me up when I do hit the water. Thanks!

Can a regular skateboard be used in the same manner to generate speed? I purchased a skateboard to work on my surfing, but speed generation seems difficult at best.

Kale are you riding the 33 or 34 inch? It's a brilliant board 👌
    Love the digging dirt approach!

    Hey Kale!
Love the tutorial. Just a question, I'm a beginner surfer and snowboarder and doing it regular.
But in surfskate, I am goofy. Have you met this case already? Do you think it will still improve my surf or do I have to swap in surfskate or surf?

Swap your surf skating to natural :)

@@KalesBroccoli feel like I have been wrong in surf all along. Gonna give it a try next time in goofy in surf, because I'm really doing great in surfskate! (your tutorials help a lot thanks!)

Do you know if SmoothStars are available in the US. If not, what else would be a good option?

Hey Mate, I have been looking into getting one of these and stumbled on your video. I notice your local. Would love to come along to a workshop if you're doing any around town. Going to have a look today down the mainstream if any of the surf shops have them.
