My only complaint with this movie was that Luigi didn't get enough screentime. Even though the movie is called _The Super Mario Bros. Movie,_ Luigi got sidelined pretty hard. He should've had his own B plot or something. He deserved better in this movie.
He had a realization at some point in the film that he never gave Mario a reach around for the times that he stood up for him, leading to him rescuing Mario in the fight against Bowser and working together with him.
Indeed, the sequel will likely give him more screen time and fix other issues, and if rumors are true, there might even be a Luigi's Mansion spin-off movie in the future, so that'll be even cooler.
I absolutely love how Kamek was done in the movie. The voice acting for him was perfect, his expressions and synergy with Bowser is perfect, it’s just great. I love especially the one scene when Bowser uses his one-liner on peach only for it to not work and Kamek responds with a “doing great” with just a thumbs up from the corner of the screen which really felt like a father giving his son validation and is completely in character for Kamek who was Bowser’s father figure.
Illumination may have its pros cand cons but one thing they never miss is how beautiful thier animation looks and the mario movie took full advantage of that cause it looked amazing
For how long it's been since the last Mario film and how it's recieved the film plays it safe which isn't a huge problem but for a 1st film playing it safe was the right move. The cast looking back at the announcement is interesting. Jack Black and Charlie Day are perfectly casted but Pratt as Mario is interesting and odd on paper but in execution it's I would say good. I love this film but will admit it has problems granted for me they're small problems. The soundtrack might be my absolute favorite Video game adaptation soundtrack

As an Animator myself, I have massive respect for the people who animated this. Puss and boots two is still my favorite animation movie, but this is still very high on my list. Ah, so I see you're a man of culture as well. While Illumination wasn't my first pick to produce this movie, I do think they're the right fit. This studio deserves more credit, respect and love than what people make of it. Besides, I think the minions are hilarious! Despicble Me 2 is probably their best film imo. I don't think I would choose them to do a Zelda movie, but if they do, I want to see them expand their horizons and do something truly epic!

I see The Mario Movie as something similar to Alice in Wonderland. While It's not focused on a strong story, it's mostly about being simple and colorful, with Wacky sequences, memorable characters, and an overall Jolly Good Time.

I actually kind of like the detail I was the boss battle ending quickly because that’s kind of what it felt like to me when I play the games they end kinda soon in my opinion so this actually felt canon
I like this movie a lot, it has flaws like having no depth and being way too fast paced. If this movie had 10 or 20 extra minutes to just chill it could’ve been a masterpiece but for now it’s a fun time for kids and adults with pretty animation, great music. Tons of nice references, great voice acting, and a good batch of jokes 8/10

Everything when it comes to debate is all opinion-based, not factual-based. I still consider it a masterpiece because it was a non-stop awesome time and a movie that I’ve waited 4 my entire life. There were tons of emotional moments with Mario/Luigi, and Mario/Peach. It’s trying 2 introduce the casual audience 2 the world of Mario, and it did it perfectly in my opinion. I love Illumination movies, but this one is by far my favorite one. Hopefully Despicable Me 4, Pets 3, and Sing 3 will be incredible as well.

This movie is kinda complicated in a way. I love almost everything this film tries to be in just being simple, fun, most of all entertaining, and I got that from here as a huge Mario fan like myself. However, the film in my opinion has two glaring issues that kinda restrains it for being just very good like Luigi being completely sidelined which is more disappointing because I adore his brother relationship with Mario. And the pacing which defeats the purpose of having more character interactions, making more scenes take a breathe to get you hook up the great world building, and develop arcs for characters like Toad, Peach, and especially Luigi. I appreciate that this movie has no dull, or slow moments that takes us away from our enjoyment(looking at that wedding scene in Sonic 2), but the pacing needs to be balance to let things breathe, while we can relate to our favorite characters on screen more kinda like how Sonic Movie 1 has solid pacing to watch characters moments. Other than that, I adore everything this movie brings like the music, animation, message, the voice acting is surprisingly great with the exception of Cranky Kong, and characters despite how minimum the interactions is from beginning to end. I can see this film ranging from a 5 to 6 from people who aren’t really fans of Mario because it can be overwhelming to watch with no payoff and simple story. Although, I’ve seen this film numerous times I can count, and every time; I feel so much enjoyment, and invested in a movie than I do with other movies. It has issues that unfortunately hurts it from being great, but I really enjoy my time with it, and as a Mario fan, it’s amazing, but if I add add a critical perspective with my acknowledgment as a fan of the franchise is like an 8/10. Pretty good movie, but one that it’s issues needs to be fix in its sequels. However as a Mario fan only perspectives is a 9/10.

Imo, the ending should've been more action packed (not saying that it isn't already action packed), like what if Bowser fell in the lava while mario was trying to stop the bullet bill from hitting the castle, and as bowser became dry bowser, everyone made it to earth, and the earth became hell.

@Awesomemey I know some stuff about the Mario series so having Mario live in Brooklyn isn’t anything new but having the mushroom kingdom a unfamiliar place to Mario makes the movie (in my opinion) kind of bad but making a completely different plot for the series isn’t anything new when it comes to movies in general but just putting Mario into something like this is just weird. It’s great to have Mario’s (and Luigi’s) family tree expand I feel like they didn’t get enough screen time (Mario and Luigi just eat and talk with the family and THATS IT) and some Mario logic get thrown out the window (like when mini Mario grew bigger after getting hit). Toad taged along for no reason and Luigi was lock up in a cell for like half the movie. And at the end I was waiting for the part when Brooklyn was rebuilt but no they just go back to the mushroom kingdom. And the wedding part was trash because it was the perfect part for fan service and all we got was king bomb-omb and king boo!?!?!? But I’ll give the movie a 4/10
I'm surprised you didn't know that there was a Kirby anime. That came out quite some time ago. I'd say about 20 years ago actually would be accurate. If I'm not mistaken the voice of Meta Knight from that anime is who remains the voice of Meta Knight in the Super Smash Bros games. As far as I know you don't hear his voice in the Kirby games though or at least you don't hear it that much. Also I completely understand about how it took you so long to make this review. It took me many months to finish the two movie reviews that I uploaded to my channel. But since hardly anybody watched them I just decided not to really make them anymore and just focus on uploading the shorts I make that I can get done in less than a day or even done in less than an hour or less than a few hours which take less effort to make but get a lot more views so might as well stick to that. On the topic of movie reviews all I got for a Super Mario movie review was just me and my friend who saw it that day uploading a short of us just briefly talking about it for less than a minute. We had plans or at least talked about making a full-on video review but it's been months since so I don't think that's going to happen Especially since we hadn't even started making the full-on review anyway😂

It's my favorite video game movie because it just felt like an actual Mario movie and not have it go some route where it's video game characters going to the real world or some weird gritty apocalyptic movie where the powerups are drugs.

My main three movies I’d want after this, other than the obvious sequel, are Luigi’s Mansion, Legend of Zelda, and Metroid although something like Metroid would probably be better with a different studio than Illumination like maybe DreamWorks

I can't wait for the inevitable day this movie comes out on Netflix. It will become one of my most watched movies as a massive Mario fan. Seeing all the Easter eggs in the theater was like such a fun scavenger hunt. May not have been the best movie objectively, but as a movie for Mario fans, it's pretty damn impressive. Really hope the literal insane commercial success means a sequel!

I'm so thankful Illumination hired an actual voice actor to voice Kamek. Kevin Michael Richardson nailed him PERFECTLY.
Kevin Michael Richardson usually voices characters with deep voices, and his performance as Kamek was such a great surprise.

Everything when it comes to debate is all opinion-based, not factual-based. I still consider it a masterpiece because it was a non-stop awesome time and a movie that I’ve waited 4 my entire life. There were tons of emotional moments with Mario/Luigi, and Mario/Peach. It’s trying 2 introduce the casual audience 2 the world of Mario, and it did it perfectly in my opinion. I love Illumination movies, but this one is by far my favorite one. Hopefully Despicable Me 4, Pets 3, and Sing 3 will be incredible as well.

This movie is kinda complicated in a way. I love almost everything this film tries to be in just being simple, fun, most of all entertaining, and I got that from here as a huge Mario fan like myself. However, the film in my opinion has two glaring issues that kinda restrains it for being just very good like Luigi being completely sidelined which is more disappointing because I adore his brother relationship with Mario. And the pacing which defeats the purpose of having more character interactions, making more scenes take a breathe to get you hook up the great world building, and develop arcs for characters like Toad, Peach, and especially Luigi. I appreciate that this movie has no dull, or slow moments that takes us away from our enjoyment(looking at that wedding scene in Sonic 2), but the pacing needs to be balance to let things breathe, while we can relate to our favorite characters on screen more kinda like how Sonic Movie 1 has solid pacing to watch characters moments.
Other than that, I adore everything this movie brings like the music, animation, message, the voice acting is surprisingly great with the exception of Cranky Kong, and characters despite how minimum the interactions is from beginning to end. I can see this film ranging from a 5 to 6 from people who aren’t really fans of Mario because it can be overwhelming to watch with no payoff and simple story. Although, I’ve seen this film numerous times I can count, and every time; I feel so much enjoyment, and invested in a movie than I do with other movies. It has issues that unfortunately hurts it from being great, but I really enjoy my time with it, and as a Mario fan, it’s amazing, but if I add add a critical perspective with my acknowledgment as a fan of the franchise is like an 8/10. Pretty good movie, but one that it’s issues needs to be fix in its sequels. However as a Mario fan only perspectives is a 9/10.
Illumination and Universal are trying to get the License for a Legend of Zelda Movie but that is not confirmed and is just on paper right now

Imo, the ending should've been more action packed (not saying that it isn't already action packed), like what if Bowser fell in the lava while mario was trying to stop the bullet bill from hitting the castle, and as bowser became dry bowser, everyone made it to earth, and the earth became hell.
That would’ve been way too dark. I think Bowser should’ve turned into Giga Bowser. That would’ve been cool.

@Awesomemey I know some stuff about the Mario series so having Mario live in Brooklyn isn’t anything new but having the mushroom kingdom a unfamiliar place to Mario makes the movie (in my opinion) kind of bad but making a completely different plot for the series isn’t anything new when it comes to movies in general but just putting Mario into something like this is just weird. It’s great to have Mario’s (and Luigi’s) family tree expand I feel like they didn’t get enough screen time (Mario and Luigi just eat and talk with the family and THATS IT) and some Mario logic get thrown out the window (like when mini Mario grew bigger after getting hit). Toad taged along for no reason and Luigi was lock up in a cell for like half the movie. And at the end I was waiting for the part when Brooklyn was rebuilt but no they just go back to the mushroom kingdom. And the wedding part was trash because it was the perfect part for fan service and all we got was king bomb-omb and king boo!?!?!? But I’ll give the movie a 4/10
I'm surprised you didn't know that there was a Kirby anime. That came out quite some time ago. I'd say about 20 years ago actually would be accurate.
If I'm not mistaken the voice of Meta Knight from that anime is who remains the voice of Meta Knight in the Super Smash Bros games. As far as I know you don't hear his voice in the Kirby games though or at least you don't hear it that much.
Also I completely understand about how it took you so long to make this review. It took me many months to finish the two movie reviews that I uploaded to my channel. But since hardly anybody watched them I just decided not to really make them anymore and just focus on uploading the shorts I make that I can get done in less than a day or even done in less than an hour or less than a few hours which take less effort to make but get a lot more views so might as well stick to that.
On the topic of movie reviews all I got for a Super Mario movie review was just me and my friend who saw it that day uploading a short of us just briefly talking about it for less than a minute. We had plans or at least talked about making a full-on video review but it's been months since so I don't think that's going to happen Especially since we hadn't even started making the full-on review anyway😂

The pacing part i agree on, the movie felt like 50 mins but it was actually 1 hour and a half
My main three movies I’d want after this, other than the obvious sequel, are Luigi’s Mansion, Legend of Zelda, and Metroid although something like Metroid would probably be better with a different studio than Illumination like maybe DreamWorks

I can't wait for the inevitable day this movie comes out on Netflix. It will become one of my most watched movies as a massive Mario fan. Seeing all the Easter eggs in the theater was like such a fun scavenger hunt. May not have been the best movie objectively, but as a movie for Mario fans, it's pretty damn impressive. Really hope the literal insane commercial success means a sequel!
