Probably the main reason why movies like The Lego Movie, the first Wreck-It-Ralph, and Chip N Dale worked is because they still had the focus be on the main characters, their stories, and their conflicts with all the crossover cameos being on the side for jokes to poke fun at them, while Wreck-It-Ralph 2 and Space Jam 2 were just Disney and WB shoving their IPs in your face for like an hour.

Chip 'n' Dale might not be quite a spiritual successor to Who Framed Roger Rabbit but it's certainly *SO MUCH* better then Space Jam A New Legacy even had to offer.
Another point you forgot is that usually, the main characters are original. Emmet, Ralph, Roger Rabbit, all of them were created specifically for the ip movie. Chip and dale, while not original, might as well be because they are a kind of different versions of the chipmunks we've seen before and act differently with hints of their past versions.

What pisses me off more about Wreck it Ralph 2 is that the movie could've easily been about modern video games or modern online video games compared to how the last movie was focused on classic arcade games, or it could've been about some sort of problem with Litwacks Arcade. I know the second movie had slaughter race and online players, but it was pretty much the only part in the movie where Ralph and Vanelope go into video game or interact with characters from a modern video game rather than an old arcade game. What makes me even more angry is that the second movie focused on things like memes social media, TH-cam, flossing, and whatever the hell else kids are into these days while the first movie focused on a world within an arcade with a good story, plot, and one of the greatest plot twists in animation. They even made Ralph stupid in the sequel when we all know he was never stupid, he just wanted to be treated with respect. It WIW 1, When Felix says he doesn't know what it feels like to be treated poorly, Ralph says " That's every day of my life." And then he continues to talk about why he ran off in the first place. We know damn well that the Ralph in the second movie wouldn't have even done that.
Crossovers can be good like the Jimmy Timmy Power Hour but that was a show and not only that but characters got to interact. In the crossover movies I find they don’t give time for the characters to hang out
Well, "READY PLAYER ONE" was based on a book and the story was relatively the same, but the characters weren't so bland. If you're curious as to what I'm taking about, just read the book. Trust me, it's a good time.
It also had the f word in the book, and there would be jokes made about bad language in video games and getting banned for it. Also literal virtual reality school is a thing there.
@@griffinholmes8024 and even (I think) Jeff Fowler was interested in a Smash movie. I’m not worried about him Making one because he made Sonic as magnificent as he can since he did what fans wanted (Ugly Sonic replaced by Movie Sonic as example) and the sequel was more like a “Video Game” Movie but with Smash, not many characters talk so I wonder how they will help.
in my opinion, who framed roger rabbit was one of best ip movies bc they acknowledged that the characters that were there where now u can almost tell that they brought in the characters just so we could actually watch an incredibly dumb movie
If you’ve ever read the ready player one book, it handles the IP crossover so much better. Where most of it contributes the plot. How Parzival found the first key is that in the book, everyone from ages 6-18 has to go to a virtual high school. Parzivals high school is located on a grassland planet, nothing very interesting intel Parzival realizes the school he’s being going to for years was designed as an old D&nD dungeon. Through out the opening of the book there’s hints that the key is located on that planet. The set up is so much better. Even the speech that holiday provides in the opening teases the locations of the keys. I highly recommend the book Also the Lego movie is a masterpiece
The sequel to Wreck it Ralph is actually a good one using real brand and app logos gives me a realistic felling but the movie is for kids... Kids don't understand these references(even they presented it creatively) But i really hope to have a sequel so fans are justified and complaining about the worst moments of animations of thier life
0:47 Actually, according to the data mines from the game, there is a Lego Brick mechanic in the files. So it’s very most likely we’ll get Emmet in the game sometime in the future!
I like crossovers with like similar movies mash up together, and they’re from that company. It makes the story expand a little more with that universe. I think AVP is a good example of this because they’re both aliens the only thing is they are not from the same companies but the feel of two over powered creature going face to face is really cool.
I didn't even really care that much about the cameos in Wreck It Ralph (the first one) and The Lego Movie when saw those movies because I was engaged in what the main characters were going through. The cameos/references were just a cute bonus, which is what they should be. In a bad movie, they're the only things worthy of note. Also this last sentence is completely unrelated to the rest of my comment but The Warners from Animaniacs have got to be in Multiversus like come one they are literally THE Warner Brothers (and the Warner Sister)!
Does somebody remember „Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescure”? It was a pretty great crossover 90s cartoons movie, which was telling the kids about the dangers of taking drugs. Also, not gonna lie, I think we need more cartoons about the harmfulness of such substances like drugs and alcohol.
If you want a good crossover, just look at "Who framed Roger Rabbit?" It's a crossover movie, it mixes live action and animation, it's set in a timeless era, it has serious themes and tones, you can feel for all the main characters, etc.
Wreck it Ralph 2 also went against the original restrictions the first movie had set up. Venelope goes to the racing game oblivious of the fact how they have to always be in the arcade
To see if a movie can have references and make sense, just see if the plot makes sense and then add references that can still be removed and still make the movie great without them.
Funfact: there are rumors that Multiversus was originaly planed to be a Disney Crossover game because in the gamefiles of the beta there was a ralph Atm
Awesomemay, I hate to chime my opinion in, but the Chip 'n Dale film is a ugly, pointless story that is an insult to the history of animation, the Rescue Rangers (who aren't the REAL focus or protagonists) and old school Disney. Why make Peter Pan evil and write his character transformation EERILY SIMILAR to what they did to the actor? Why make Ugly Sonic a big deal when it was the Sonic fanbase who spoke up enough to get him redesigned? Why ruin the image of the chipmunks by not having their usually squeaky voices? Why call it a "Rescue Rangers" movie when the Rangers are not ALL PRESENT and WORKING TOGETHER except for the pointless "separate then reunite" story for Chip and Dale? They are brothers, not randos who met at school and became actors. I hated this film concept since the first trailer and I cannot fathom why Disney would allow this "overstretched Adult Swim Robot Chicken Parody" on Disney Plus. They showed they gave no care/heart to it or the characters. And I find BOTH Wreck-It Ralph movies fun to watch. The sequel still works because it's like how seniors view the Internet (via Ralph).
I could go into a lot more because how much I hate it, but I'd gladly rewatch the more cleverly written Ralph Breaks the Internet or the "Direct to DVD" movies than Disney's live action hacks and the Chip 'n Dale insult movie. Also, you complain about the "online product placements", why would you find it annoying when the INTERNET is the focus of the film? They don't need to go to Steam gaming or such. The internet jokes work more
Ahhhhhh, the OK K.O Sonic episode!! Glad it was included even though it wasn't talked about, definetly one of my favourite shows and one of my favourite crossovers just due to my adoration for both properties! I love your content and I'm so excited for you to get to 100k, you deserve it!! Stay awesome :)
One of the only crossovers in recent years with multiple IPs owned by different companies that worked really well that I can think of is LEGO Dimensions Aside from the novelty of owning LEGO versions of characters like Scooby, Harry Potter and Sonic the Hedgehog, the main reason it worked is because the franchises were important to the story (14 of them at least) Not to mention, Traveller’s Tales have put a lot of care and passion into paying tribute and making references to these franchises with minimal restrictions, so LEGO Dimensions is not a clustered IP mess like Space Jam 2 or Ralph Breaks the Internet
One thing I would add about these IP/Crossover movies is that if done poorly, it dates them BADLY. The "Oh My Disney" scene in "Ralph 2" is based on Disney's take on "Buzzfeed" but with Disney. That website is no longer around because Buzzfeed stopped being relevant, so now "Ralph 2" has a whole scene that's outdated and barely saved by the IPs involved. In trying to capture people's attention now with quick trends you end up outdating yourself. Movies may have stories that take place in a specific time period, but that can also make them timeless if the story is done right and the characters are memorable. That's why a movie like "Turning Red" can take place in 2002 and show off the culture and lifestyle off that decade and still be enjoyed by many because at its core its a story about growing up, learning to love yourself, and gain love and acceptance from family.
I remember seeing you on kids skit back in (2016???2015?), then like a year ago and I wondered "what happened to that dude, didn't he start TH-cam". Then looking you up and screaming my head off about how well you've improved and the projects you've made! Crazy how I still look up to you, even after all these years. Awesomemay, you're the bomb, keep up the good work; I can't wait to see what you do in the 5 years!

Honestly, ever since No Way Home became popular, it feels even more apparent that many companies do crossovers just to promote rather than tell an actual story. Like crossovers would work if they're clever enough or if the setting makes it legitimate (i.e. Wreck-It-Ralph has video game characters who act as heroes or villains as their job, The Lego Movie is about Lego stuff, including ones based on other IP and Chip n Dale is about animation in general). I mean Chip n Dale would've been interesting if: 1) they focus more on the Chip n Dale cast and give like the others maybe more roles and 2) they swap out Sweet Pete for a more interesting villain or maybe alter his backstory so that it doesn't feel like an insult to Bobby Driscoll's life (with all the "former child stars who were mistreated after reaching puberty and sunk very low in their adulthood" which would've been interesting if they bothered to put effort) Many of these new crossover stuff feels like I'm just watching one long VR Chat gameplay.
Yeah the lego movie idea makes sense with how there's multiple separated lego sets and how it's shown in the ending that the son brought them together to make things (as opposed to what the dad wants)
Amazing video! So free Ralph Break the internet is garbage and the original is amazing. Same for Lego movie, first is great but second is pretty bad. You are one of my favorite TH-camrs that I always like to come back to! Also, 4:06 was hilarious
0:27 I do agree with Nick All Star Brawl, but Muliversus is a pretty good game. They have a higher budget than NASB and are putting more time and effort into the game and are pleasing everyone with the roster (Also Emmet was leaked to be in the game) However, I do agree with you with the rest of the video
Zooms in on randy whilst talking about references to non-Disney products and says “YET” made me laugh so hard my parents woke up and told me to go to sleep on thanksgiving break lmfao.
Honestly Peter Pan being like what 40? 50? Was kinda funny I spat out a little of my drink when I saw him jump of his desk saying HELLO then like 6 minutes later tells bob to throw at axe at him lol...
I really hate that Ready Player One had such a weak plot. The book had a great story with crazy action sequences and the plot in the movie is so one dimensional and bland. Wade Watts has the least interesting background in the movie, but in the book he was fleshed out perfectly.
My favorite IP movies are definitely Ready player 1, Lego Movie, Lego Batman movie, Wreck it Ralph, Chip n Dale and probably Free Guy (that movie has Chris Evans so it counts)
In the future, I would like to make a fan-made huge crossover movie or game, any tips on how to actually make it good instead of it being a cringe fest lol
you beat me to the punch on a video about this topic haha very good video though! i strangely felt chip n dale did a pretty decent job at the crossover aspect and giving everything a reason to exist there
I liked Wreck-it Ralph 2, The Emoji Movie and Space Jam 2, but maybe it's because I went in with a different reason. Wreck-it Ralph 2, I admit I was probably there to see the cameos, though it wasn't a bad story imo. And that final scene with the princesses saving the day is awesome. The Emoji Movie is something I basicly picked to watch with a friend and it was basicly to catch up with him, while whatever the story was of the movie we're watching came second, so maybe that is why I precieved it differently. Space Jam 2, I mainly like for the crazy Looney Tunes shenaningans. I think I was just exicted to see them back on the screen after such a long absence.
Sometimes movies that are like this can be great such as The Lego Movie or Wreck-it-Ralph, but there are some movies that don't follow the same formula such as The Emoji Movie. but if movie studios only use these cameos for comedic purposes, it makes these movies so much better.
I’d recommend reading the book ready player one was based off of. It adds a lot more enjoyment to the film and is also really good. I also have just seen that film too many times and just really like it and the 80s so I just really love that movie
security breach a fnaf game was basically only good because of the references and nostalgia. honestly it doesn’t make sense either why reference everything your trying to cover up? it doesn’t make sense to me. so the IP doesn’t really doesn’t work in security breach.

May is one of the most underrated youtubers!! So entertaining and has a consistent upload schedule:)
Yea! :D
THANK YOU :))
Agreed all day man!!!
Ikr, there must be a lot of effort put into the videos honestly
also tbhk fan???
Crossovers can be good like the Jimmy Timmy Power Hour but that was a show and not only that but characters got to interact. In the crossover movies I find they don’t give time for the characters to hang out
Your better animating and editing always is making me surprised and satisfied :)
hopefully ill add a lot more animated segments in future vids :D
@@Awesomemay nice
Well, "READY PLAYER ONE" was based on a book and the story was relatively the same, but the characters weren't so bland. If you're curious as to what I'm taking about, just read the book. Trust me, it's a good time.
ive read some of the book! i like it :D
@@Awesomemay I hate you
It also had the f word in the book, and there would be jokes made about bad language in video games and getting banned for it. Also literal virtual reality school is a thing there.
4:06 wait,that's the voice of valskibum94!
Yep
We need a smash bros movie that would be a successful crossover movie
THAT OR KINDGOM HEARTS MOVIE WOULD BE DOPE
@@Awesomemay a smash bots movie would be cool
@@Awesomemay Nintendo actually might be working on more movies for a cinematic universe way beyond the Mario movie

its insane how good Smash fanfics can be
I would kill for a whole series
@@griffinholmes8024 and even (I think) Jeff Fowler was interested in a Smash movie. I’m not worried about him
Making one because he made Sonic as magnificent as he can since he did what fans wanted (Ugly Sonic replaced by Movie Sonic as example) and the sequel was more like a “Video Game” Movie but with Smash, not many characters talk so I wonder how they will help.
in my opinion, who framed roger rabbit was one of best ip movies bc they acknowledged that the characters that were there where now u can almost tell that they brought in the characters just so we could actually watch an incredibly dumb movie
Tbh the only crossovers I like are in shows, like when this show character teleports into this other show
Like The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour
Like Generator rex and Ben 10: Heroes United

If you’ve ever read the ready player one book, it handles the IP crossover so much better. Where most of it contributes the plot. How Parzival found the first key is that in the book, everyone from ages 6-18 has to go to a virtual high school. Parzivals high school is located on a grassland planet, nothing very interesting intel Parzival realizes the school he’s being going to for years was designed as an old D&nD dungeon. Through out the opening of the book there’s hints that the key is located on that planet. The set up is so much better. Even the speech that holiday provides in the opening teases the locations of the keys. I highly recommend the book
Also the Lego movie is a masterpiece
Wait, there's a book?
@@SPYROSTSABOURIS yep. I think it's actually a series, even.
@@SPYROSTSABOURIS yeah and it’s awesome
The sequel to Wreck it Ralph is actually a good one using real brand and app logos gives me a realistic felling but the movie is for kids... Kids don't understand these references(even they presented it creatively) But i really hope to have a sequel so fans are justified and complaining about the worst moments of animations of thier life
0:47 Actually, according to the data mines from the game, there is a Lego Brick mechanic in the files. So it’s very most likely we’ll get Emmet in the game sometime in the future!
Hopefully in early 2024
@@Multifandomblossuhh idk did they
Great as always! The animation is great, and I agree with most of your points.
thanks dude :D
Yea, I remember when he had 20k subs, keep growing my dude! 👍
To this day I still love the fact that Mortal Kombat was referenced in a Disney film, Wreck-It-Ralph was great.
I like crossovers with like similar movies mash up together, and they’re from that company. It makes the story expand a little more with that universe. I think AVP is a good example of this because they’re both aliens the only thing is they are not from the same companies but the feel of two over powered creature going face to face is really cool.
6:41 Schaffrillas: Thank you, someone else said it
Chip 'n Dale is a 5/10 at best. It was entertaining but the animation was icky.
The 2.5-D was at least but the regular 2-D and CG looked great. 7/10 for me
Bro ur soo underrated yet so loved, keeping the style and the editing the same and consistent. Pls keep it up!
thanks cwis! i appreciate it :D

"Actually there's 3"
Meme reference
The internet jokes work more
7:36 JACK HORNER VOICE ACTOR MOMENT
Awesomemay: The 2 IP games we have are multiversus and Nickelodeon all star brawl
Me: Multiversus isn’t even released
The only movie that’s a crossover I like is Wreak It Ralph
Ahhhhhh, the OK K.O Sonic episode!! Glad it was included even though it wasn't talked about, definetly one of my favourite shows and one of my favourite crossovers just due to my adoration for both properties! I love your content and I'm so excited for you to get to 100k, you deserve it!! Stay awesome :)
One of the only crossovers in recent years with multiple IPs owned by different companies that worked really well that I can think of is LEGO Dimensions
Aside from the novelty of owning LEGO versions of characters like Scooby, Harry Potter and Sonic the Hedgehog, the main reason it worked is because the franchises were important to the story (14 of them at least)
Not to mention, Traveller’s Tales have put a lot of care and passion into paying tribute and making references to these franchises with minimal restrictions, so LEGO Dimensions is not a clustered IP mess like Space Jam 2 or Ralph Breaks the Internet
0:47 I died of laughter when i saw Emmet
2:01 *Strong Garfiel.*
That's why a movie like "Turning Red" can take place in 2002 and show off the culture and lifestyle off that decade and still be enjoyed by many because at its core its a story about growing up, learning to love yourself, and gain love and acceptance from family.
i like disney movies a lot. but theyre just doing so much sometimes that it feels like theyre going in for the money
Me too!
0:45 they will add emmet but its not really soon
4:01 true but the credit song is fire

I mean Chip n Dale would've been interesting if: 1) they focus more on the Chip n Dale cast and give like the others maybe more roles and 2) they swap out Sweet Pete for a more interesting villain or maybe alter his backstory so that it doesn't feel like an insult to Bobby Driscoll's life (with all the "former child stars who were mistreated after reaching puberty and sunk very low in their adulthood" which would've been interesting if they bothered to put effort)
Many of these new crossover stuff feels like I'm just watching one long VR Chat gameplay.
lego movie is great though. the cameos make sense because the lego brand. but even then its not focused on the cameos, which is nice to see
Similar thing applies to Wreck-It-Ralph
Yeah the lego movie idea makes sense with how there's multiple separated lego sets and how it's shown in the ending that the son brought them together to make things (as opposed to what the dad wants)
@@roxassora2706 with the first one, i agree
Remember that Ready Player One was a book first!
I never had a crossover before because my channel is pretty small. But I should probably find someone that’s an animation for stuff in common
If you don’t know the people that’s on the goon squad it’s like the first movie basketball players turn into monsters
You made great videos buddy! Your animating and editing skills were excellent and top notch! Keep up the excellent work! 👍
Amazing video! So free Ralph Break the internet is garbage and the original is amazing. Same for Lego movie, first is great but second is pretty bad. You are one of my favorite TH-camrs that I always like to come back to! Also, 4:06 was hilarious
Congrats on almost reaching 100K subscribers.
Great video as always with lots of good points! But speaking of crossovers, wanna do one? 😉
I actually love crossover movies! Crossover movies are some of my favorite movies!
0:27 I do agree with Nick All Star Brawl, but Muliversus is a pretty good game. They have a higher budget than NASB and are putting more time and effort into the game and are pleasing everyone with the roster (Also Emmet was leaked to be in the game)
However, I do agree with you with the rest of the video
1:28 amogus. Funny.
Sus Moment
My favorite IP movies are definitely Ready player 1, Lego Movie, Lego Batman movie, Wreck it Ralph, Chip n Dale and probably Free Guy (that movie has Chris Evans so it counts)
Also they had a crossover with spongbob it’s called the title zone
When you were talking about ready player one and you said great character cameos everyone loves was that tracer from over watch next to you
In the future, I would like to make a fan-made huge crossover movie or game, any tips on how to actually make it good instead of it being a cringe fest lol
I want to make one too!
i would watch the lego Batman movie ever day, like would memorize MOST ALL THE LINE ITS JUST AAAAH SO GOOD
when your fav movie is ready player one
0:47 Sadly, Warner Bros. no longer has the rights to any Lego Movie characters.
alright, I now know what I'm watching for movie night this Friday. no more searching for 1 hour just to watch an episode of Buffy instead!
2:05 no may....... I NEED AN EXCUSE TO HAVE THE CHIP N DALE MOVIE IN THIS VIDEO
👁️👄👁️ what
Again…. 👁️👄👁️ WHAT???
you beat me to the punch on a video about this topic haha
very good video though! i strangely felt chip n dale did a pretty decent job at the crossover aspect and giving everything a reason to exist there
One thing im still confused about from the Chip n Dale movie
I thought that Chip was the red nosed one and Dale was the black nosed one?
The ready player 1 book was just 😙👌
4:02 Video references inside a video about references?! Cleaver 🤣🤣
0:35 You’d be surprised about how many people called multiversus the next smash bros. (And how many people want Ben 10 to be in it)
This is a brilliant concept.
But a debatable time for a video.
The second Wreck-It Ralph movie had the Disney Princesses bit.
Thank god smash isn’t a movie
How are you not an animating legend, your videos are awesome!!
it Could be fun if in wreck it Ralph 2 they put other characters from other studios
I agree with his statement about Emmett. He is best Lego character ever p
We would have hover chairs if space jam 2 didn't exist
I’ve seen the uncle grampa and Steven universe crossover, and I liked it. I don’t know anything about either but it was still fun
Sometimes movies that are like this can be great such as The Lego Movie or Wreck-it-Ralph, but there are some movies that don't follow the same formula such as The Emoji Movie. but if movie studios only use these cameos for comedic purposes, it makes these movies so much better.
You never fail to make a awsome video I subbed
The only thing I remembered about Ralph Breaks the Internet is that DanTDM voiced a character only in the UK theater release
I’d recommend reading the book ready player one was based off of. It adds a lot more enjoyment to the film and is also really good. I also have just seen that film too many times and just really like it and the 80s so I just really love that movie
Yeaaaa,I don't like this kind of movies

thanks! definitely not easy but it helps that most of my videos just feature movie footage lol
security breach a fnaf game was basically only good because of the references and nostalgia. honestly it doesn’t make sense either why reference everything your trying to cover up? it doesn’t make sense to me. so the IP doesn’t really doesn’t work in security breach.
