Hadn't played in a long while and tried to launch a game with all my old star wars mods and nothing was working. The AML showed me how i was missing around a dozen dependency mods that had been changed/updated over the years. I never would have found out how to run this game with all my star wars stuff without this video. Much appreciated! :)
Yea i added a few mods(cosmetic) and ALL my UI mods stopped working and i was stumped. Found a thread about this launcher and it fixed everything, it's amazing and needs more attention.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for the video. I'd been struggling with stability issues ever since I first started modding X-Com; had always wondered how to diagnose where the issue was coming from. I followed your instructions, and it made the issue very clear with a small amount of effort. Now the game runs super smooth. Un/fortunately, that means I'll probably be sinking many hours into my pretty heavily modded up game in the next while. Cheers!
Glad it’s still useful! As an aside, you don’t need any programs to unzip the files. Windows does that now. (It might have always done it, I’m not entirely sure)
When I downloaded AML (version 1.4.1) it already had my steam and mod paths set. Also, the interface seems to have updated slightly since this video released, as "settings" is now under "options" in around the same spot. (Most people with common sense can figure that out).

Dawg I got no 265 etc on my content folder, there's two others but it's not the XCOM one.... do I need to launch the game or something in order to create this folder?
Do you have the game installed on another drive, cause if so it will be on that drive not the main C drive. Also make sure you have a mod subscribed too on steam, and you may have to launch the game at least once not sure.
@LordStarkillerII Well, it didn't work, so I made the folder myself, and the manager found it on its own... oh well. I appreciate the help, regardless. Hella is frustrating modding this game. But hey, we did it.

I don’t actually use anything to unzip .zip files. I just put the .zip files into the videos section of my pc. This allows me to unzip it by just a simple right click and then drag the .exe file to where its needed
windows by default shouldn't have any issues making, opening, or extracting zips. if you run into other file types, like .7z, .rar, etc. then you'll want something else. 7zip is quite nice.
I have been able to download mods from steam, but how do I use mods from NEXUS? There are some mods from Nexus that I wanna use but AML keeps saying its missing steam ID

that thing at 4:35 and "not bothering to do that" thing. I don't know how you set things up between that any what you did with your original folder. also, when i try to launch aml, it keeps saying it cant create steam_appid.txt because the path is denied. That steam cant be detected, and also it is asking for steam to be running (which it is), the same file to exist in the aml folder, and neither team or aml are running with admin. Now, i tried creating the file manually, but it doesn't recognize it. additionally, i read the github info, and it said i can change the route via the settings dialogue, but i never get an option to even access any sort of settings file or menu.

Have you extracted the entire .zip file to a new folder as explained in the tutorial? If you have, right click on the .exe and click 'run as administrator', that may fix your issue!

For some reason, the color coded actions and improved camera mods aren’t working for me. They’re checked off and the game can tell when they’re missing, but they just don’t turn on in-game.
How long does the game take to launch? It can take a couple of minutes depending on your hard drive speed, and the mod count. It can also be indicative of a mod conflict.
How would I go back to doing a vanilla play through of WOTC without uninstalling all the mods? Would I just disable them? Or just run challenge mode but do a campaign instead?
If I turn off all my mods, AML can start the game just fine (Albeit a little slower than Steam). However, whenever I turn on any mods, it just locks up before getting to the main menu. I've tried the file verification and the configuration reset, neither worked and I'm not sure what to do.
Super helpful thanks! I did everything as you said, used your exact modlist to make my star wars playthrough, but whenever I try and "Run War of The Chosen" I just get a not responding screen. I verified the game cache and I deleted the config files but the game won't even start up throug the AML without any mods installed. And help would be so greatly appreciated!
@@TheTommyTrials Will do! I'll send the screenshot of my error. I'm installing and uninstalling my XCOM2 to see if that works, I'll let you know if it doesn't to see what the next steps would be. Thanks for responding!
Do you have any fixes for the " Error detected attempting load of package:" followed by a mod name. I use Admiralbahroos mod set which ive seen work fine. Out of the 253 mods in the pack i end up having to disable most spark related stuff and when i make a mech soldier in the game he cant equip anything which im guessing is because of the mods it makes me disable.
Many thanks for making this video, I just got started with LWoTC and this has filled in some critical holes for me. The mod seems to be starting with no issues but it is just early days right now.. It might be nice to see an actual installation guide for LWoTC because it's not very intuitive and the reasons for the convoluted process seems to be a combination of a key sub-mod not being on the workshop and the original Firaxis loader being borked. There be darkness out there if you are in a light-dispensing mood ;-)
hi im probably doing this wrong but i find that the list of mods using AML or any other launcher compared to my steam workshop mods im missing 75% of them any advice
Im pretty new to using mods. Xcom2 used to run really well on my PC, but now it takes forever to load. Once loaded, it runs really well(90ish mods, zero cosmetics). Decided to try to use the "verify integrity of game files" to see if it helps at all. Something Ive been unclear on...if you have mods installed and decided to uncheck all of them, the game would or should run just fine as vanilla?
Thanks! I have several PURPLE flagged mods (dupplicates) and have no clue what to do with those. I do not have them twice... only one mod folder in settings. My game is crashing at the end of a mission for no apparent reason... Any idea?
I need technical help. It was working at first, was launching the game. However, now when I open up ALM, it just straight up crashes. Not XCOM, ALM. It closes the entire thing, I don't even have the chance to hit launch.
A few thing's I'd try is Running AML as Administrator, and if that doesn't work redownload AML and run it in a new folder. don't merge the installs. that should reset it. If either of those don't work I suggest you join Tommy's Discord if you can, it's easier than using TH-cam comments, but hopefully one of those to things will work. Edit: discord Link is in the video description if you need it.
Thx fpr the tutorial :) Is there a way to check all the mods you have subscribed to with just one click? I want to use the Christopher Odd modlist which includes some 500+ mods and I really don't want to check them all individually...
If you click the first mod, scroll down to the bottom, and then shift+click the bottom one, it will select all mods. Then, it's as simple as clicking one box! After a second or two, it will enable all of them :D
please can u help me after i use this and mod everthing and start the game it doesnt launch and shows ( app not responding ) I cleared cache and verified files too what to do ? and thanks
I don't think you need to use WinRAR even. I simply used the microsoft function - right click and extrac all - into the folder like recommended. Then i launched it - windows asked me if i was sure to allow it - yes - and the AML immediately found my mod folders. So it was even easier than i expected. Thanks for the video though! A bit shitty that the 2K mod launcher doesn't work properly but as long as i can use the mods on steam with this I'm happy.
whenever I launch xcom it sends me to the app, but it just shows a blank white screen and at the top it labels "Not responding" Im not sure how to fix this and any suggestions would help
kinda late asking but i have doe all the mmods and im using AML everything was fine until i promoted my soldiers. the screen doesnt load for promotion or the stat page after.
Hi Tommy, thank you so much for this. Have posted a doubt on your Discord, please check. Also is there a way to use AML on non steam version of the game? Its torrented
hi i'm having a problem with the new alternate mod_launcher for xcom 2 it froze up on me twice now and it keeps adding two other files to it making the number go up to 19 files instead of staying at 17 files can i please get some help
Hi, I followed your clip on how to start playing with mods. but it does not want to start for me. it starts as usual when I start without mods. what should I do?
Hi for some reason I did the whole thing step by step but now it won't open WOTC as it hit's Not responding as it hits the black little screen and freezes. I don't want to re-install the thing just wanted to ask for help
You mentioned how the normal XCOM 2 launcher duplicates files and slows the game down; How does one fix that? Should I reinstall the game? My load times for a battle are easily 20 minutes...
To the best of my knowledge, grabbing the AML is the only way to fix that. The vanilla launcher was broken with the release of Chimera Squad, and I'm not sure if it was ever fixed. Clearing your config and verifying the game cache will reset that though, so I suppose you could try to fix that that way.
Does anybody know how to change the order the mods run in? Ever time I launch Xcom2 WOTC it gives me notification saying one mod is trying to run before another one is in group RUN_LAST why the other is in group RUN_STANDARD?
The best advice I can give is hop onto the discord server. We can probably help you better there. If you don’t want to do that, I will try and take a close look later today
Thank you for this, I am having an issue with the Clone Troopers armour Mod. For some reason it's not showing the Armour itself and is blank (looks as if there is just no legs at all) any idea what might be going on? Im not using WOTC just regular XCOM2. Any idea what I can do?
Double check the descriptions on the mods. If you’re using the one by poncho, it will never work without WOTC. Most mods specify in the description or “required DLC”. :)
@@TheTommyTrials Im using the XCom Vanilla version, By Refined Turtle Flesh (Not using WOTC) Any idea if there's another Clone Trooper Armour for Vanilla XCOM? I DO have WOTC but when I tried to launch it, it doesn't launch and shows as (NOT RESPONDING)
So I did everything as you had, but now I am getting " XCOM 2 : WOTC (Not Responding)." Not sure what else I can do, no mods are conflicting, any advice would be helpful.
I know I'm far too late here, but I just found out that I have a ton of comments that the YT app never told me I had... Nonetheless, you can typically fix that with a smidge of patience. Depending on the mod count, and what kind of drive you have X2 installed on to, it can sometimes take upwards of 15 minutes to launch. That's not the launcher's fault, it's just a side effect of adding more stuff to the game. If it never launches ever. It's likely you have a mod conflict, so try launching without any mods.
I followed everything in your instruction, everything seems to be in order, no conflicts, no missing dependencies, then once I click the "Run war of the chosen" it is not responding anymore just a black rectangular box, I leave it for like 30 mins and still nothing... then I tried running the AML without any mods and it worked, by the way I'm using 1.4.1 AML. I deleted the Config File under My Games, run the AML with all the mods activated and it worked, tried making a new game and I can't see any single mod, tried loading an old save game and it prompted a list of mods missing... any advice? Thanks!
well, I managed to solve this issue, somehow I carelessly added a mod for Xcom 2 Vanilla, now every-time I launch the game it displays a message stating that a mod is not installed ex: Wotc Mail Hair Pack, when I double checked it somehow the said mod is "un-subscribe" so I redo it again, played the again, shut down pc, then next day BOOM, all the mods installed are no longer there, I have to "re-subscribe" every single damn mod... can you help please...

How long does the game take to launch? It can take a couple of minutes depending on your hard drive speed, and the mod count. It can also be indicative of a mod conflict.
This video didn't tell me anything.
Just kidding, it was fuckin' awesome. Appreciate the explanation man, it really helped me!
You had me in the first half, not gonna lie 😆
How would I go back to doing a vanilla play through of WOTC without uninstalling all the mods? Would I just disable them? Or just run challenge mode but do a campaign instead?
If I turn off all my mods, AML can start the game just fine (Albeit a little slower than Steam).
However, whenever I turn on any mods, it just locks up before getting to the main menu.
I've tried the file verification and the configuration reset, neither worked and I'm not sure what to do.
This was very helpful, thanks a lot!
Our best bet would be to have you hop on the discord server so we can see pics and whatnot. That will give us the best chance to help!
@@TheTommyTrials Will do!
@@TheTommyTrials Will do! I'll send the screenshot of my error. I'm installing and uninstalling my XCOM2 to see if that works, I'll let you know if it doesn't to see what the next steps would be. Thanks for responding!
@@CalebAdams yeah no problem! Hopefully we can get everything to work properly
@@CalebAdams is also advise to delete any files on your pc related to xcom 2
thanks, very helpful and painless video
does 1.5 version not have an XCOM option i only see WOTC at the moment theres no xcom 2 button
Do you have any fixes for the " Error detected attempting load of package:" followed by a mod name. I use Admiralbahroos mod set which ive seen work fine. Out of the 253 mods in the pack i end up having to disable most spark related stuff and when i make a mech soldier in the game he cant equip anything which im guessing is because of the mods it makes me disable.
im getting :unable to detect steam. all three of its subsequent "make sure these things" are done, but it still gives me the error
There's no WOTC Button for me, only XCom 2 Vanilla. Any Fix?
Jzip dosent work
You don’t need it any more. Windows will unzip the file. (It was needed when I made the tutorial, but times have changed!)
Soo I have all the warhammer 40k stuff, and it just takes me to black screen when ur loading wotc
Been having problems, some mods are working and some are not working when using aml
When using standard launcher, nothing works
Thanks for the vid. Where do you get the mods from ?
Steam workshop.
well now i can play the game with mods again....thank you sir
thank you for the tutorial clear to the point.
hi im probably doing this wrong but i find that the list of mods using AML or any other launcher compared to my steam workshop mods im missing 75% of them any advice
Correct. In theory, if none of the mods are clicked, they shouldn't show up in game.
Thx fpr the tutorial :)
Is there a way to check all the mods you have subscribed to with just one click? I want to use the Christopher Odd modlist which includes some 500+ mods and I really don't want to check them all individually...
If you click the first mod, scroll down to the bottom, and then shift+click the bottom one, it will select all mods. Then, it's as simple as clicking one box! After a second or two, it will enable all of them :D
@@TheTommyTrials Thx a ton :)
im missing the 265800 is this because it pulls up the 2k launcher when open it throught steam?
I did everything and the launcher won’t start the game. There’s no conflicts, any ideas
please can u help me
after i use this and mod everthing and start the game
it doesnt launch and shows ( app not responding )
I cleared cache and verified files too
what to do ?
You’re correct. Once upon a time it needed a zip program, but any more, Windows does it just fine!!!
whenever I launch xcom it sends me to the app, but it just shows a blank white screen and at the top it labels "Not responding" Im not sure how to fix this and any suggestions would help
Depending on how long that not responding screen lasts, that may be normal.
Very helpful, thank you kindly.
helpful video. thanks a bunch my guy. your awesome
kinda late asking but i have doe all the mmods and im using AML everything was fine until i promoted my soldiers. the screen doesnt load for promotion or the stat page after.
Were you able to get it working? I've just realized that YT stopped telling me folks commented. :(
@@TheTommyTrials Nope, tried using AML but that doesn't do anything. Still does the black screen
When I press content then xcom 2 isn’t there. Or in other words, 268500 is not there
Thank you for this, I am having an issue with the Clone Troopers armour Mod.
@@AvatarVader head on over to our discord. We might be able to help you better over there. I’m guessing there is a mod conflict or missing mod.
do you know of a mod to help with the camera jerking between squadmates? it's giving me motion sickness
Sadly, not that I'm aware of. You can scroll to each one and click on them individually though.
I am wondering, can you set the aml in the steam launch option?
Not to the best of my knowledge.
