For those who might not know, moonwalking actually has a bit of a purpose in the game.
In the final set of stages (Mr.Big's hideout) there are a lot of conveyor belts that slow you down when you walk on them, but if you moonwalk on them you can go trough them faster.

Hunter Beck Yeah, it is great, I've beaten it twice now, but running back is usually very easy anyway since you can run by enemies. but it just serves to waste your time ultimately. I'm sure that's what From wanted anyway, the bastards.

My guess is that they never got the license from Rod Pemberton to use "Thriller," not realizing that Jackson didn't write it, and thought it was a better use of their money to program in a different Jackson song than to pay the license when Pemberton sent them a cease and desist.
Exactly. All the others songs were written by Michael Jackson except Thriller, so in order to avoid a future lawsuit from Rob, they remove the song Thriller on the next copies.

I might sound like a dumbass saying this, but I like the Genesis versions of all the Michael Jackson songs here. It's just that 16-bit badass feel it has to it. And I just like most music instrumental. I don't know what it is, but video game music, or MIDI, and rock is just my jam!

I totally agree! I've been downloading MIDI versions of Led Zep since I was 14, and used to play the arcade version of this game just for the music. I've even been known to hike to a castle while listening to the "Castle" song from Sword of Vermillion on Sega! Video game music really is some modern day classical IMO!
I don’t blame ya, as much as I like the original album recordings of MJ’s songs, the sound chip of the Genesis makes some songs like grunge or a perfect 16 Bit rendition of the original tracks

The arcade I worked at had the Moonwalker cabinet. I actually remember my hoodlum metalhead friends and I playing it, laughing and carrying on at the dance moves and crotch grab. Priceless. ✌️

Michael Jackson transforming into a kickass robot if he gets hit by a meteor is one of the reasons why I love old video games. It's random, makes absolutely no sense, but is pure fun. You'd never see something like that in a AAA title now.
It didn't make sense when he turned into a robot (and then a spaceship) in the Moonwalker movie either.

8:18 is some of the hardest I've ever laughed in an AVGN episode. He seamlessly goes from complaining about the shitty mechanics of taking damage from an inactive boss to them not including Thriller in the graveyard level. It's fucking perfect.
