Wembley Stadium, London. Widnes beat Hull Kingston Rovers 13-5 in the Rugby League Cup Final.

First time l have watched this as being 1 at the time. My dad was the man of match Frank Collier a true Wiganer but you can't take this honour away from him RIP xx

Alison, my grandad knew and respected Frank Collier as a genuine hard man with a great sense of humour. After his transfer to Widnes he absolutely battered the Wigan forwards whenever he played against them. Have you heard the story of his meeting with Field Marshall Montgomery?

As previously mentioned the old fashioned kits are fantastic and the whole thing, right down to bare arsed jock strap in the changing room give it a real GRITTY, Northern realism that todays game, with it's on pitch confetti cannons, cheerleaders and RAH-RAH-RAH just........LACK!.
Frank used to come into our greetings card shop in Pemberton around about 1984!
He’s my Grandad. Sadly never met him as he passed away in September 1989 and I was born in November 1990. These videos are wonderful snapshots of his life for us to treasure.
