The Ecusta Trail will be the biggest economic boost Henderson County has experienced in decades. Bigger than breweries, wineries, etc. The people that hike and bike rail-trails are exactly the kind of tourists we want. But as important as job growth and tax revenue through tourism dollars is, the quality of life a rail-trail brings to a community is immeasurable - health, social, increased amenities and services. Like Laura, I hope I'm alive and well enough to ride this trail when it becomes a reality.
I own a home that borders the proposed ecusta trail. Nothing would please me more than to have the old abandoned railway tracks converted to a bike/walking trail. I believe it would bring great things for this area. Many people would benefit from having a good place to walk or bike and enjoy the outdoors. Hendersonville is a great place to be and the ecusta trail would make it even better! The sooner the better!
I travel often and a community having a cycling opportunities is a big plus when I choose a location to explore. I use to live in Flat Rock, NC when I heard about the new trail it brought a smile to my face.
Hi Laura: this is a project I have been working on for the last several years. The Norfolk Southern Railroad and not given up their right of way on the 18.3 mile spur from Hendersonville to Brevard. We are prepared to Rail Bank the right of way and deal with the land owners who have said they will tie us up in court for years. they expect to win. If they win the law suit they and the two counties will be the real losers. I hope to be alive and well enough to ride this trail when we win.
When we moved to this area from Charlotte, we looked forward to riding the local roads. Then we found how inhospitable they are to bike riders. Much too narrow and no berms that will accommodate bicycles. I gave up the bike and only recently decided to start again, strictly due to the Swamp-Rabbit Trail. It is a fair distance though, from Hendersonville and a trail that runs right through the town, in addition to bringing enormous economic benefit to the area, would offer the many others who like to road bike, an opportunity to safely pursue (continue) a great exercise regimen. I would like to see the Ecusta Trail available before I am too elderly to enjoy it. Even if I couldn't ride it, maybe I could walk it.

Thank you for this content.
This project is crucial to the economies of the counties involved. I will help in any way I can to make this happen.

Come on folks, get on-board the Ecusta Trail!
This would be such a great asset to Hendersonville and Brevard. The potential to give the Brevard area an economic boost is huge!

Sure wish they'd watch this in Brevard!
