Detroit Legend Esham Smith Interview during the Kid L podcast gets heated, as Esham is challenged about his problems with Eminem and the D12 camp. Em didn’t and still doesn’t have to do shit for anybody. But he still did a lot for a lot of people. The thing is that 50; Obie, D12, and Royce, all worked their asses off before Em gave them a hand. Plus, they all had mainstream appealability to one degree or another, which led to impressive sales which could fund future endeavors. Em can’t do everything. At the end of the day, a whole lot of rappers from Detroit were lyrical miracle artists that only appealed to hip hop heads. If you sign an artist to your label, you have to recoup the advances and fees that are just part of the business. It’s hard to do that with just anybody you pull off the street who can spit a 16 but can’t do much of anything else.
I love Esham but he sounds jealous and bitter. Records speak for themselves. Make something hot and it’ll pop off solo without a deal. You don’t even need a machine behind you anymore.

It's true that some of these rappers were around before eminem and may have had some influence on him. There was a style they were all getting into in Detroit (horror core) during that era The same way drill started coming out of Chicago during a certain time range. It doesn't mean eminem wouldn't be big without Esham influence it just played a part that would have been filled by another artists influence if esham didn't exist.
On the other hand em brought alot of those underground artists to the limelight when em blew up and went main stream. Alot of Detroit rappers regardless if friends or foes are only known by people outside of Detroit because of em.
