So down to earth and the way we used to cook before fast food! Love your Geordie accent. Keep em coming, cooking the way people actually cook in an ordinary kitchen - cooking first class food! Thanks.
You're a cook after my own heart and you cook the same things I do as my Mother was a home cook too with 5 children and she did the same things I do. My Son died 2 yrs ago and he loved this kind of food. When he married he drove his wife mad telling her to do the meals the way I did them. That included a massive turkey every Christmas even when they were newly wed and there were just the two of them 🤣😂.
Looks very tasty! Mum and dad were from Gateshead and they would talk of 'plate pies' that were beef mince and potato in pastry baked on a dinner plate.
I’ve always loved homemade corn beef hash. My mom would save and freeze the meat from several meals. After thawed she’d put corn beef grinder with 🧅. Cook and mash several potatoes, add meat and cook throughly. It was and still is delicious .
Love how you make the meals my Nana and myself made for my son, just told my son he said just puts onion and corned beef in ready made pastry i said noo you need some potato lol, least he remembered something from his childhood
Love traditional recipes and the no nonsense adding herbs and spices etc, and that she uses every scrap of potato from collander and not leave half the ingredients in the collander, like most tv chefs/cooks do!
My grandmother loved cornbeef and potato pie-it tastes nearly as nice when cold. Sometimes she put a thin layer of piccalilli or Branston pickle on top of the filling, and it was always served with pickled onion ( ordinary white sliced onion soaked in malt vinegar)
It's rather difficult to find pies here in the USA, so I'm going to use your videos to make my own at home! Thank you so much for sharing your videos with us.
Lovely recipe, and very traditional! I love that potato-masher tool we see just after the 8:00 mark. One of the things I really miss living here in Argentina is the complete absence of canned meat. There is no corned beef to be had for love or money, which is very odd given that Argentina produces huge amounts of beef.
Another lovely pie mand,I had some in a cafe the other day! Never had it before and wandered how to make it,so I was thrilled tonight when you made it. Brilliant. Love Marilyn.x
It’s proper comforting food is that and so many memories of my mum’s cooking. It really has brought back a wonderful memory of mum, we had many family holidays in Whitby and once particular time after my dad had passed and my first son was still a toddler myself and my wife took mum away to Whitby. Mum stayed in a hotel and we had our caravan and mum had made her version of this to bring with us and bake in the caravan. It was such a special holiday and meant a lot to mum. So this recipe has brought back such a special memory, thank you.
Aaah, bliss. You are amazing. Takes me back to me nan. Comfort food at it's best. Me dad and me used to visit me nan on Sunday. She always had a cold corned beef and potata pie for us. Thank you from me and me (rip) dad.
That pie looks lovely but I'd probably add some Worcester sauce and if I had some fresh herbs would add those to the filling as well. I'm currently watching and enjoying a load of your you tube clips.
I was told about using a tray under a pie too and it definitely works. If I am making two pies and only have one metal tray I line the other shelf with foil. I love your recipes and looking forward to trying your jam Roly poly one, made it once in the oven and it came out so hard I could have filled some of the potholes round here so guessing the tray of water in the oven for the steam will solve that one. I have been making corned beef pie for years but my lot prefer their potatoes cubed and mixed with the onion and corned beef, I do sometimes add finely chopped red pepper if I have one in the fridge. I get my corned beef in B&M as it's usually the cheapest. Another pie I make is using sausage meat, mixed up stuffing and chopped cooked bacon, very tasty, always use the cheap cooking bacon and the cheaper sausage meat and cook two pies, one to eat and the other I cook and cut into portions and freeze, for some reason the pastry tastes even better when defrosted and heated back up in the oven.
Dinner lady we used to-have a Danish stew when I was at school over 60 years ago it was lovely but I can’t find a recipe anywhere! Do you have anything similar it was made with pieces of ham and veg with mashed potato piped on top. I was at school in Cumbria. Thank you for your recipes bless you.
Watching this video is worth anyone’s while for the crust techniques alone, let alone the pie ingredients. By any chance-for those of us whose upbringing was different, not including any animal products (save dairy and eggs), does your repertoire include a vegetable pie you could share? Perhaps a mix of cooked lentils, sliced beets and carrots, potatoes (mashed or otherwise), thyme, rosemary, salt, pepper? Would enjoy your take on a product like that also.
Omg. Please write a cookery book😊
This cookery book is my childhood, even after we moved to Australia in 1970. So many familiar favourites.
So down to earth and the way we used to cook before fast food! Love your Geordie accent. Keep em coming, cooking the way people actually cook in an ordinary kitchen - cooking first class food! Thanks.
