- I was shocked that I found a Dimarzio humbucker inside this 2002 Squier by Fender Showmaster NLT!
We also give this Squier Showmaster a full guitar Setup!
In this how to video I'll go step by step through this essential guitar maintenance setup, cleaning the guitar, replacing strings, setting the neck relief, string action height and intonation to Fender specifications.

I still have a Squier Showmaster Neck-thru from 2001 or 2 I got for less than $200 new at Guitar Center. They were normally about $400 and it was such an amazing deal until...
*The GD fret wire on it is literally BASS wire! It was intended for someone with a very light touch who was prone to very light strings, massive sweep arrangements and kindred to a scalloped neck.*
I still have it after stripping the paint, repainting it with crackling red through black, a wicked red skull pile tearing through the paint, a roller nut, Schaler locking tuners but then that wire dear god! *I filed it way lower and just dug that guitar out of the pile of well over 30 today.* I can't believe how much I trashed the wire 20-somthing years ago! lmao
Gonna clean it up with proper grit, polish and then if necessary, refret the entire thing with stainless now that it's so cheap for precut kits on Ebay.
In 2002 a friend of mine who ran a second hand shop bought a pallet load of Squier Stratocaster Bullets from a liquidation sale but there was one of the Stagemaster Deluxe in black, HSH configuration in with the Bullets, the build quality was much better than the Bullet, I fret levelled and set up the Bullets and the Stage master, as well as paying me my friend gave me a Bullet and the Stagemaster, I sold them straight away as I had far too many guitars, I wish I had kept them now just for their history.
I used to also call fretboards fingerboards until I was corrected by my girlfriends sister who taught music history, fingerboards are for non fretted instruments like violin, cello and the like
I love hearing stories like that, the time before youtube was more wholesome 👌 you live and learn unfortunately, I've sold so many guitars I wish I kept.
Always fingerboards to me, it's where your fingers go 🤣
I bought mine back in the mid 00's. It was in the same price range as many other entry level models, but the shopkeeper said that it was pretty good for that money. And he was probably right. Tremolo system is weak and the tuners do not hold in tune, but otherwise I think it is a good value guitar for its price. Single coils are a bit noisy, but I like the sound of the humbucker. I've had plans in changing the tremolo, but I've only found one or two different models that would fit in without need to move the mounting posts. Wilkinson WVS50K is one of the options, but it's a bit pricier than what I was looking for.
Looks really nice, never really looked at these before in any detail. I like the basic stripped back loom without a pickguard.
I actually thought I had one on the channel before but this is the first 👌 yeah it's a unique setup on these 🤘
Lovely. Cheers!
Thank you!
That was a nice find and a great restore! You are The Man-ifesto!!🤘
It sure was thank you very much 🤘🎸
@@theguitarmanifesto You're very welcome bro! Looking forward to seeing the others!
That’s a bad ass Squier man!
It sure is 🎸👌
That is a very interesting guitar :) What a steal with that Dimarzio :) I'd be tempted to practice my filling skills on some of those dings and repaint.
It sure is 😀 I like the 'patina'
Very cool one. There's one available locally for £89, blue one....mmm...I might just pick it up ))) 🤔
I actually really enjoyed playing this guitar and it was super easy to work on 👌 love that cobalt blue colour, go for it dude good price for a clean one 💯 if I recall some were made in china? May have been the stagemaster 🤔
Looks good Robby, that was a great score as you say with the DIMarzio pickup. The black metallic is a nice color. Give you credit you find a lot of great deals.
Got lucky with this one 😄 not many people search as hard as I do 🤣🤣 but credit where it's due I was tipped off by a subscriber on that job lot of 7 guitars 👌
On mine, with standard pick ups, when bridge and middle are on together the bridge seems to be switched tlo single coil.
Tap the poles with something metal on the humbucker to check if both sides are working, I'll have to check mine now 🤣
@@theguitarmanifesto Did the tap test, double pole on its own, single when combined with middle. Never checked the wiring though.PS, got mine for &30 😀😀
Just check mine both sides working on middle/bridge. Seems a strange one? Nice score for £30 👌
I like using Mr Sheen too!
Good old furniture polish, you don't need hipster fluid🤣
Awesome looking guitar rob 👍
She's one of a kind 👌
TH-cam it's not delivering your videos to me ... I've got to click on the bell again
Ah mate sorry to hear that, also set notifications to all. TH-cam make it hard work nowadays
I have a showmaster series mb-4 bass in pewter metallic, made in korea 2001...pretty much an ibanez soundgear copy, the headstock shape is better looking than an ibanez though
Awesome 😎
Very Cool, Thankyou. Cool Guitar. Nice Work. I have never seen one of these guitars. have to keep a look out for one now .... hahaha. All the best. Cheers
Yeah these Showmasters don't seem to be well documented on TH-cam, now watch the prices creep up 🤣🤣
Does the reverse headstock gives a different kind of tensional for all strings compared to the usual one?
Makes no difference it's still strung the same just in reverse, if that makes sense?
@@theguitarmanifesto true. How about when tune the strings, looks like the reverse design is lot easier to access when tuning while standing....
For some reason the tuning pegs seem to be a lot closer together making it more difficult to turn the tuners
@@theguitarmanifesto thanks for the good information. BTW your purchase is a score...
Ways glad to help, oh this sure was a great score 👌
Scored one of these a few months ago (in blue) from a local charity shop for £40 ,,,any idea on the value of these Rob ?
I've seen the cobalt blue one advertised on eBay and reverb for £150-200. Great score by the way 👌 manifesto prices 🤣🤣
@@theguitarmanifesto cheers Rob,,,might be worth mentioning I got a 92 korean strat the same day from the same place for £60 ,,,she's bruised but she's a dancer 😋
@@craigtroman9031sounds like my kind of shop 🤣
🤣🤣 yeah but they've had no more in since Rob I mean what's all that about its just inconsiderate really 🤣 and believe me I've been checking on a daily basis ,,,,I WANT MORE !!!! 😂😂
@craigtroman9031 no doubt 🤣🤣 I used to find places like that all the time, now most charity shops just list guitars on eBay
What does NLT mean? Better yet, what does NLT/CBM mean!? This was my first guitar, and I just bought it again 22 years later lol….the listing said NLT/CBM so please someone!! HELP
It's a Showmaster NLT, no idea what it means 🤣 not sure about CBM either? Sorry to be of no help 🤣💯
@@theguitarmanifesto At least I’m not the only one. Thanks
NLT = Non-Locking Tremolo
There was a variant with a Floyd rose style Tremolo and locking nut.
CBM = Cobalt Blue Metallic They came CBM or in black sparkle, as per the one in the video
Credentials: I have an NLT CBM 😊
