OH, Gotoh still makes a similar locking tuner - Fender uses those same style in the MIJ series - you stick a coin in and hold it in place while you tighten, and it'll "self-lock" after a few rotations.
    Think of it this way:
    - for normal lockers with a thumbwheel at the back, you tighten the thumbwheel to clamp down and lock the string;
    - for these, it's the exact opposite because the clamp mechanism is on the tuner side - you hold the post in position (i.e. with a coin) so that as you wind the string, the clamp engages and locks down the string.

What a beautiful guitar! It's a shame they stopped making the MIK series. They had so many nice models under that line, the carved top stuff, some of the more highly spec'd out teles/strats. I have one of the Korean "Lite Ash" teles that comes with a 22 fret birds eye maple neck, ash body, and seymour duncan quarter pounder - they just don't make those specs under their normal US, MIM and MIJ lineups.

I bought a Lite Ash tele body years ago and they are fantastic!

I absolutely love these Showmaster Strats, the 3 single coil versions don't last long on Reverb and my holy grail so far is the gold top Showmaster

I have Gotoh locking tuners for a Strat that tighten the same way. Not a fan.

There locking tuners like the gotoh magnum lock. There fine. Nothing wrong with them. Really the easiest to use.

Always thought the Show Master was a killer guitar. One of my Bros has got one, and it's incredible. And this one in the vid is gorgeous! Love this guitar! Would love to have one of these in my collection.

Had one a fee years ago that found at a pawn shop for $299. The smaller body was hard to get used to and sold it, other than that it was a very nice guitar

I do so much prefer this style of Strat. While I appreciate the advantages of the scratch plate mounted pickups and electronics, there seems to be something so much better about the pickups being directly mounted onto the body rather than a sheet of plastic.
I mean, the Fender scratch plate system looks ok(ish) and works well enough, but although the Strat design dominates the market few other designers seem to have developed a similar system. But then again, one could suppose that Fender had it well patented.
    Super nice guitar!

The Wiki page on the Showmaster just calls the locking tuners.

wow, those strings were corroded right out of the box! look at the high E around the first fret, you can see it there as well as around the 23rd fret😬😬😬 also those tuner are auto lock, they lock down as the string is tightened.

Very interesting I’ve never seen that type of tuner before either. Hope somebody can explain them to us.

if the truss rod was that tight to turn might be a broblem with the neck being too straight or curved forward
wood drying and all that jazz
when i have to turn the druss thing i usually loosen it until the D and G strings come out of the nut slots by themselves
that's with a guitar without locking a nut of course
with the strings loosend a bit
i like the locking tuners where you can use a quarter to loosen and tighten 'em
not the locking tuners where you have turn those wheels at the bottom
    nice guitar by the way

    ZIMM'S GUITARS....In fact, If it's a Showmaster...then it's not a ''Strat''....A Stratocaster is one model and a Showmaster is another model....It's really quite simple...
