If you don't get goose bumps from this, you won't get goose bumps ever.
Love John's sense of humor @ the end. 🙂
what a beautiful and soulful tune...you go cougar
Great song, great performance.
I was in a trance while watching this live on Letterman last week....just a powerful song from one of the all-time great voices..he's doing some of his best work as he gets older...
John Mellencamp does get better and better! I thought he started out great too!
Great Song !
substance and soul not easily found anywhere. Songs like this help you to take a step back in time and dream, then take a step forward and look at life from a different perspective.
Love this guy, this album is fantastic, agree with other commenter, doing his best work in later years ❤
Save some time to dream , because your dreams might save us all . WOW !!!
From the heart,.Beautiful John. Beautiful.
Time is not our friend... Time steals from me everyday as I struggle to live up to my personal expectations.
Talk about someone who gets better with age! J.M. is one of the best.
Save some time to dream, indeed! What a beautiful, poignant, powerful lyric!
Song hits hard, save some time for the one's you love!!!#
i love this whole damn cd.
Awesome John, Archived in the lexicon of what it means to be human.
Love love love this tune
yes. amen. get so busy that we overlook Love and dreams!
Best live version I've seen of this song. Rest are thin or noisy crowds. Here, Letterman is in the way, but the performance is darn good. I think.
They're both Hoosiers!!
Thanks for a wonderful nite in Dartmouth Nova Scotia..I had sat 8 ft. from you and your wonderful band.....took me back to being young again.....I can still feel it in my bones in pain and pleasure.
My FAVORITE SONG EVER!♡♡♡

Thank you John Mellencamp im an Indiana girl , and loved watching you on Letterman!
Brilliant !
@shimmy1952 I also thought of John Prine when I first heard this. And, yes, better than ever.
Seen him In Nebraska a few years back, and he is as cool as I always thought he was. Some gal was squirting him with water, and he never missed a lick. He is one of the greats.
Dig it. Love this guy.
@gdarr1029 I totally agree. John is an amazing singer songwriter. That song moves me in so many ways.
he's single again... I've been waiting John ;) Great song, great songwriter
Yeah this 50 year old I slept with when I was 27 likes him a lot.
John Mellencamp's one step above Cats in the Cradle. Smashed me in my feels.
Very nice acoustic performance
Better than ever, like John Prine.
Love John and John Prine!
@shimmy1952 Yeah, perfect comparison. Simple and heartfelt.
great lyrics, great voice, great JOHN
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This was awesome. I just hope John doesn't get lung cancer one day, Dave was busting his balls about smoking lol...you're the greatest John...
@snowangel090 ditto I am born and raised in Indiana :)
good schufftt!!!!!!!
Mr Natural Approved!
The first thing he says when he leans in was, "Did that bring a tear to your eye?"
excellent !
@estreetbill A GREAT PERFORMER FROM MY HOME STATE OF INDIANA .LIKE U SAID JUST LIKE FINE WINE GETS BETTER WITH AGE JUST LIKE JON BON JOVI..
@sallygal7 Dave has very cool taste in music. No Better Than This is one of the greatest albums I've heard in the last 10 years.
What did John say to Letterman at the end???
He said he wasn't great at music at first but I'm glad John stuck with it and gave us awesome songs like this that lift us up.
better make that 2
@Rhezoloution I think he said "Play for Keeps!"
He says, "playing for keeps"
Did not know? wow ....Dylan
The engineering on the album is rather strange as John tried to recreate some older style recordings which inspire him. The effect in some ways diminishes the music. I'm trying to listen to the album but the effects are distracting... Love themusic; hate the recording. I'd rather listen to TH-cam.
Same
@fish4free1 I completely get that. Love the songs but the mono recording gets muddy.
guitar too bright!
1 person didn't take the time to really listen...
