- To commemorate the 5th anniversary of Dave retiring from late night television (his last show was on May 20, 2015), I've put together a series of "first and last" appearances, the latter paying tributes in their own ways to the last giant of late night (h/t Jason Zinoman).
Part 13. John Mellencamp
1. October 26, 1985
2. April 27, 2015
The 2015 guest appearance comes from Andrew Lynch's superb TH-cam upload, linked here: • Video
In his "HEY DAY"! Damm, he was such a sexy dancer....I have seen him in concert more times than I can remember and his music is beyond Talented! His songs are timeless...pure genius!
Small Town is one of my favorite Mellencamp songs!!! Thank you for putting him on Dave!!
His catalog is the soundtrack for America.
lol, what bull...
It's your soundtrack, not America's.

So far 5 other people agree. What musical artist do you pick for soundtrack for America?

Haha, Bruce has a few good songs. Glory days is good. He doesn't have close to as many great American classics as John Couger Mellencamp! Nice try though.
Not really. Listen to the actual lyrics. Hes a commie pig.
He seems to have changed a lot in 30 years, personality-wise.
Just like the rest of us....
3 Divorces will do that to you.

Love the dubbed in helicopter sound.
That was part of the Tri-State Special, where a helicopter followed the path of Larry Bud’s route. The sound was real.
@@dongiller I figured Gurnee dubbed it in...

That Gibson acoustic should be in the Smithsonian some day...
How pathetic that he can't go without a freaking cigarette long enough to appear on Letterman. Thats so weak and sad.
