John Prine was such a gift to the world!! What wonderful wonderful music! RIP John.
As a Rocker, I was privileged to have a friend turn me on to John Prine in the late 70's. Changed my way of thinking, and to a degree my way of life. The song Souvenirs really hit me hard; the honesty, simplicity, and sadness of the lyrics haunt me to this day. The guitar playing, ( With Steve Goodman) just flows like a gentle stream, seamlessly intertwined with the singing. I've been very fortunate to have seen him live twice, and what I wouldn't do to go back to those times...
61 now . Heard him when I was 11 . Bought everything of his , seen him five times .! Souvenirs with Steve is magical. He filled a hole in my life . Still does .
RIP to a legend who brought wisdom and soul to a million human hearts
Amen!
Didn't know he died wish I hadn't read that. I know that's life.
Dear God, I knew it was coming. He's been so sick. It hurts every bit as much as expected and more. I love you so, JP. RIP my love.
Such a nice post.
Nice thoughts Darling.
As someone who loves all genres of real music why the hell did it take 41 years to come across such a treasure ? John Prine is the real deal.
better late than never...if you are lucky to live long enough you can listen to all of his songs !! I hope you listen to them all many many times over and over and then again.
I don't know dude I grew up with this music and I'm only 33 but it touches your heart for sure
Indeed he is!
The finest music ever made never was played on the radio my friend. Hoyt Axton, Guy Clark and John Prine never graced mainstream radio but there's no singers/songwriters that are finer.
@@banjo05738 YEA I DO, HE MAKES ME LAUGH, CRY, THINK DEEP AND MOST OF ALL, APPRECIATE LIFE
R.I.P -you sang and wrote for ordinary people, we´ll never forget YOU !
A singing poet❤️🎶 Rest in peace🙏
Saw John with Todd Snyder in Edmonton years ago. Christmas present from my daughter. Best dam present ever. Miss you John
Been a fan since 72 when I heard paradise and whistle and fish on the radio at the Florida united methodist children's home
The greatest singer/songwriter ever. PERIOD.
“PERIOD” but why
John Prime --- RIP ---April 7, 2020 --- Nashville, TN, age 73 (same as me). We will all miss you and your music, my friend! Thanks for the fine musical ride!!! Smile, and have a "happy enchilada" or three from me!!!
No argument
Back before I was a movie star
Straight off of the farm
I had a picture of another man's wife
Tattooed on my arm
With a pack of Camel cigarettes
In the sleeve of my T-shirt
I'm headin' out to Hollywood
Just to have my feelings hurt
That town will make you crazy
Just give it a little time
You'll be walking 'round in circles
Down at Hollywood and Vine
You'll be waitin' on a phone call
At the wrong end of a broom
Yes, that town'll make you crazy
Crazy as a loon
So, I headed down to Nashville
To become a country star
Every night you'd find me hangin'
At every honky-tonkin' bar
Pretty soon I met a woman
Pretty soon she done me wrong
Pretty soon my life got sadder
Than any country song
That town will make you crazy
Just give it a little time
You'll be walking 'round in circles
Lookin' for that country rhyme
You'll be waitin' on a phone call
At the wrong end of a broom
Yeah, that town'll make you crazy
Crazy as a loon
So, I gathered up my savvy
Bought myself a business suit
I headed up to New York City
Where a man can make some loot
I got hired Monday morning
Downsized that afternoon
Overcome with grief that evening
Now I'm crazy as a loon
So I'm up here in the North Woods
Just staring at a lake
Wondering just exactly how much
They think a man can take
I eat fish to pass the time away
'Neath this blue Canadian moon
This old world has made me crazy
Crazy as a loon
Lord, this world will make you crazy
Crazy as a loon
Thank you for the lyrics
One of the most humble, honest, writers ever. John did it all for the love of life and fun music brings... That is why he is looked up to by soooooo many fellow artists. His talents reach the hearts and soul of folks all over the world.....✌💖🎶
John writes music people can relate to, and makes you feel like it was written for you. Such a cool guy.
Although, I never had a picture of another man's wife tattooed on my arm
Ha! Yea that's pretty ballsy. And stupid.
I always thought it was a picture of an ex wife who is now married to another man, but he got the tattoo when he was married to her.
Thanks for the new perspective.
I grew up with that old saying...to me it has always meant that we had our mom's name tattooed on our arm (as in the old toast that goes, "here's to the happiest days of my life, spent in the arms of another man's wife...my mother).
True originals are very few and very far between...........J Prine is as original as it gets! Gotta love this kind of talent.
Thomas Leyland 😎
so true ,seen him in1980 ,with steve goodman ,was amazing ,never get tired of john
i will throw this song up against any Dylan song.
After yesterday's insanity at the capitol, this song is bringing me some sanity today.
3 years ago I was at John Prine gig in Vicar St. Dublin with my 18 year old son. On our way home he said "I have seen all the major rock bands that have played here in recent years. They should have been here tonight to learn how to do a gig."
that's a wise young man you got there Mr Cunningham...
Jim Cunningham maith an fear
JP is back at Vicar St in August. Tickets purchased. Third JP concert this year - Belfast, London, Dublin
Marcia Thomason every concert is his best. He's John Prine what. r. u. crazy as a loon?
Been my star for over 38 years! Answered questions, opened my eyes, made me cry and thought I would die but never let me give up cause he answers all my questions! Long live you John from an older Ozark Arkie in 'dem thar hills that has slipped down and over to Nashville and lucky to run into you, but you don't know it, at bars in town on a night out. Forever, do far!
Love John Prine. He will definitely go straight to Heaven.
Hope we all do Peggy. Maybe someone will be playing "the frying pan"
Great music thanks for all your songs john you did so good no wonder bob Dylan said he was one as a great song writer around have a great day
John Prine is a treasure....
since 1973, he has been so important to my sanity. thank you john for helping me survive thus far into 2019
40 years of driving across the Northwest with my wife and kids enjoying this mans stories put to music, loved every mile
Ugh, heartbreaking... We have lost John Prine. 🥺💔😞
Greg Halvorson yup we always lose the best of the best. Let us just remember him and respect . I Love You JOHN PRINE Have fun in heaven
Greg Halvorson a month later and it still hurts
@@danespup -- no doubt, Bill, he was one of a kind.
I’m 65 yrs old why haven’t I heard of John Prine until just a couple months ago ? Now retired I’m sitting around thinking man I gotta have some John Prine !
I was fortunate to grow up outside Chicago where John played his first gig while working as a mail deliverer. He and Steve Goodman wrote songs that described our lives as kids growing up in the midwest US during the Vietnam War and Watergate. They both played in our local bars and on college campuses. He was our touchstone and just as he was being rediscovered, we lost him.
I am fortunate...saw him May 25, 2019 in Madison.... phenomenal
It's been said that Prine is Dylan's favorite. That's enough for me.
Me too!!!! Two of my four favorites, along with Jerry Jeff Walker and Mark Knopfler
and Kristofferson....
Ronnie John Lennon said the same thing. He put John Prine above all others. That’s saying something. 😍
Hooo!
roger waters of pink floyd is a big fan ,
A+ John....every song is the best....you are missed....
New country artists can't come close to artists like John Prine. His songs get better the more you listen to them.
The solitude that comes with being a mail carrier is good for the creative spirit. A paragon of songwriting. Thanks John.
cow milking too - 200 head at 4am the milk parlor had a chalk board in it one end. It got used a lot. :)
LOVE me some John Prine!!! He ain't afraid to tell it like it is. He is one helluva storyteller! A friend of mine turned me onto his music back in the early ' 80s when we were working at a huge plant nursery. In the winter, we would be working in greenhouses that didn't have heat, just plastic covering the plants, so we would break out our flasks of homemade peach or apple brandy to keep us warm & sing John Prine songs at the top of our lungs!! Thank you, Marla for introducing me to John & thank you, John for the awesome music & good times that have come w/it!!!!
Holly Hilton sounds like a life well worn and lived like a favorite pair of leather boots
can anyone name the band please
@@eddiekerr11 Dave Jacques on bass, Jason Wilber on guitar and Pat McLaughlin on mandolin.
I got it wrong - Pat McLaughlin is on guitar on this video, and Jason Wilber is on mandolin.
I found the cure for depression and anxiety 50 years ago JOHN PRINE. It still works today.LOVE HIM
My introduction to one of the greatest songwriters of all time. RIP. God bless family
Rest in Peace John. You will be missed
And I love the guitar playing of that guitar player.
What an absolutely incredible song. Can't stop hitting repeat!
Prine ain't just a National Treasure. He's a WORLD TREASURE !
i had the pleasure of seeing John Prine on his 2004 tour . they were promoting this album . they played all his older stuff n all the stuff from the new album , was hands down they best concert i have ever seen . i have to go to another soon
I was Singing this this morning. Thought I'd Share. I thought I had it all together. Lost it by noon. Tryed to pick it up again. You guessed it. " Crazy As A Loon". I kinda like it. And don't act like you Ain't.
I'm now 55 and just discovered Mr Prine - what a find - loving all his humour and skills
RIP John. Damn man. Sorry to see you go.
john prine & steve godman will always be in my heart & mind music ,lyrics ,honesty
Add...John Hartford..for the trifecta!
I AM MY OWN GRANDPA!!!! hahahaha
Sing on forever, John............you are truly standing in the hallowed halls of the greats.......God bless you..R I P
i have a dvd he put out wish i had more of him was good will miss him
he will never see this----but I love him
every time I listen to anything he sings I cry
I know exactly what you mean. He gets under your skin, and goes right for the heart. Thankfully, he makes us laugh too.
Just discovering
And my God where TF have I been?
Solid Gold!
I feel cheated. I heard Paradise back in early 70s on a blank 8track a buddy of mine had didn't know who the artist was. Then in 2010 I was at work singing it and a coworker said I just love John Prine so that's who sang that song thanks to technology I listen to him everyday can't get enough
"Hello in There". oh holy flowing tears batman!!
loved John Prine since '71
last concert I saw was John Prine!
I discovered him in 1975 or 76. I've listened to a wide variety of music from a young age, and picking an all time favorite was always something I said I couldn't really do, until recently. Not that I ever stopped listening to it for very long, but I've now revisited JP's music at several stages of my life, and I kind of decided recently that I can say he is probably my all time favorite artist. He is absolutely a treasure. Glad you discovered him. My life would not be as rich without his music.
He's very definitely been growing on me. He deserves a lot more fame than he's gotten so far.
To all the "better late than never" folks. I found this great music at 70. Might have been cutting it a little close
I'm 30 years and just discovered this man's music. Glad we both are lucky enough to appreciate this man's art
@@nodnoc Yep
I was in Nashville New Years 2020 - heard John and Kurt Vile sing this. The best.
My lifes anthem. Thanks John its still right when you sing it.
Been listening to this storyteller since 83...when I was 13! National treasure.
Yes it will Thank God that He is Around Rest in Peace John Ya will be Missed but Never Forgotten

Not looking for an argument. Just informing you lol.
mitch p i feel sorry for you mitch
Josh McDevitt awwww Josh, thanks bud. xo
John prine was one of the best concert I’ve seen
Once again Prine rules, shows how it's done how you present a well written song and how you work the audience.
I met John in 1980 via my now husband. We fell in love listening to him and Guy Clark..Hope they have this music in Heaven
lynda walls I'm sure they do I lovve them plus others like them too

Only 4 times for me 😕 I have been loving this guy since the mid 70's
So sorry for the loss of a great friend.
Good bye dear John. It has come time to go and we will miss you greatly. Thank you for your gift of music.
Saw John Prine and Nancy Griffith together in Houston many years ago, what a great show!
I still remember seeing Joh in a Habs hockey shirt during his draft dodging days in Canada ... I love the fact that he appreciates Canada so much
Pretty soon my life got sadder, than any country song. Genuis
Great live version of this song.It is not distorted by boozed up fans being loud and singing along.
Thank you John for everything . ! .
I think this is one of Mr. Prines better songs. I love the line "I got hired that morning downsized that afternoon..."
John Prince been listening to for years and I can't believe how much I love him and will miss
In a class of one. Thx John, I'm a better person because of you.
Got to see John at the Palms in October, 2015 with Kris Kristofferson. Great show.
The world has made me crazy ,
crazy as a loon....
JOHN PRINE.... gotta love him!
Born in 1990 and John prime is my go to, talk about talent
Wonderful songs , from another Son of God with his feet on the ground and His eyes in his head and his Heart out for others . Great Human Being making this thoughtful music for us to enjoy . I love it .
Why I never heard from John Prine before. I am listening to his songs everyday now. AWSOME
Peter Degroot Welcome to the fan club! Woke up this morning and put JP on the y-tube while drinking my morning cup, can’t stop listening and crying while smiling! Gonna be a great day!
@@kriswright1022 I feel the same and greetings from the Netherlands
goosebumps... it don't get no better
Saw him on Nitty Gritty 50 Years..Circlin Back. Paradise...voice was a little scratchy but it was vintage. One of the greatest all time American songwriters/entertainers.
John is the finest talent we will ever see. RIP
I remember seeing Prine in 1968 at an outdoor concert in San Marcos Texas...almost 50 years ago... damn!
I first heard him and loved his music in 1971 when I heard Sam Stone. That album was brilliant as was his latest in 2018 and all in between. John wrote that first album of great songs when he was about 23 years old! He is still helping me hold on to my sanity.
Thanks Dad for introducing me at a young age
I like listening to good music, it doesn’t get gooder than this.
Best video on You Tube .... My new favorite song .... RIP ... God Speed .. Thank you for your music !!!!
John Prine... one hell of a singer songwriter! So many songs that I can relate to.! Thanks John!
Gotta Love him Every song reminds you of something you have done or witnessed so simple and true cigarettes in shirt sleeves we all used to do tht
I've seen the man several times, here in Portland. The last time was a couple years ago at the Oregon Zoo. Imagine a packed, sold out, standing room only outdoor stadium, hundreds of voices singing along with every song he played. Pure magic.
+Nathan Tompkins Paints a nice picture. Would have loved to have been there.
I would've loved to see that one as well. Saw Dan Hicks there in '80 something.
Nathan Tompkin
He came to my hometown a few years ago waaaaay back in the Appalachian mountains. I could tell that he didn't think any of us hillbillies knew his music but when the audience began to sing along with him, I could tell he liked it because he became much more animated and into it.
Reminds me always of my late husband. Thank him still for introducing to Mr. Prine. American songwriter...
A laid-back, understatedsong and performance, a truly great song and performer.
Great musicians. Hey Marty. We hope you and Connie are well.
Joe and Sharon
I'm 53 and I remember when I was a kid, my cousin could play guitar and played Dear Abby and Paradise for his father. I thought those songs were so cool. Then when I got to be a teenager, I asked my cousin about those songs and where they came from and that was my real introduction to the greatest songwriter ever.
Learned of John Prine in 2008, I just love a great artist and Prine is one of the best.
I live his music as well I grew up listening to him
Saw him in Galway a few weeks ago. As good as ever.Looking forward to seeing another genius, Chris Smither, in 2 weeks time.
The same thing happened to me. Music is so important to me and I didn't know about John Prine until he passed. How did this happen as I love his music?
This bloke is brilliant and always was ... he exudes decency and "niceness" .... it's him ... he is brilliant in all ways! Love his music and long may he continue to write and play it!
John is exactly as you might imagine in real life.
Been a big fan since I started playing guitar when I was 40. Some 17 yrs ago. John's music just spoke to me . Nobody writes like him. So honest. So aware of his own faults and forgiving of others and so funny. Hoping the best for him and his family, you are so loved by so many you'll never know. Been playing and listening to your stuff all day. Makes us feel better in these troubled times, thanks John, LOVE you!
I have loved John Prine and his music right from the time i was a grasshopper😀and to this day i still so enjoy

Beautiful soul for us all! I miss you buddy!
It's raining outside and im sitting beside the fire with my Guitar but I could never play and sing like John Prine,😭😭😭
As long as you have ears you'll be fine
